A Good Beginner Crop

If you already know you like crops, avoid this one unless you need a cute prop for an outfit. But if you're just starting out in the world of kink and want to know if a crop might be right for you and your partner, this is a good starting point. It won't last a lifetime, but will last long enough to know if you're going to like it at the very least.

Use

This is definitely not a crop for heavy play, quite possibly not even for medium weight play. It's definitely best suited for light play, for those who are interested in figuring out if they like having a crop used on them, or use just as a prop. It's not made from the greatest materials and won't last you a long time, but it will last you long enough to decide whether or not you like it. If you already know you like crops, go ahead and skip this one unless you're looking for an inexpensive prop.

Design / Craftsmanship / Size / Material / Features

Grand total, this crop is 22" from end to end, but just about 6 of that is for a wrist strap. The faux leather (or pleather) has a nice finish on the outside, but looks cheap on the inside of folds and such. The wrist strap does continue about 6" up the plastic handle, and is not only sewn together to not flap around, but is also held in place near the base with a metal stud. Everything above the stud can twist about and after long enough, might break off. The plastic handle is pretty sturdy, slightly flexible, and will break if you're trying to do so. The actual part you'd smack your partner around with is about 2 1/2" x 2", made of the same black pleather as the wrist strap, and features a heart shaped cut out. Between the folds of the top crop part is a piece of red fabric that has been sewn in place at the base of the slapping part. That part is also securely attached to the plastic handle by more metal studs; 1 through the handle itself, and 1 on each side of the handle inside the sewn parts.

I think that taking the materials into consideration, it is pretty well made. This particular material isn't meant to last a lifetime, or even hold up to really rough play. Everything does have a nice smooth feel to it, and there's just the slightest "fake leather" scent.

Performance

It performed pretty well, all things considered. We weren't extremely rough with it, but we weren't easy on it either. This has been used during sex and other play a few times, as well as out with friends just as a gag for laughs. It's held up through all of that so far.

It has the potential to be quite hurty. When I used it on my husband and myself, I was able to consistently product a nice stinging feeling. It didn't hurt, but I could tell where I had just been smacked. When it was used on me, he was able to make it hurt more, but it wasn't hard to control how hard he wanted to hit, and keep producing the nice stingy smacks.

I was playing around with a friend and figured out that you can also use the wrist band as a crop as well, although it just stings and doesn't do much more.

It can and will get loud more often than not. If you want to get a good feeling smack, it's going to make noise. I've found that the noise tends to sound a lot worse than it actually felt.

Care and Maintenance

You shouldn't really end up getting this dirty, but if you do, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth and some mild soap if need be.

I recommend storing it in a drawer, but you can also hang it up by the wrist strap if you so choose.

Packaging

Packaging was barely existent, which was kind of nice. The crop came attached to a piece of light cardboard that said "Sportsheets Impressions Crop", so it's not exactly discreet, but then again, neither is the crop. There's a website listed, but not much else. No instructions were provided, however it's pretty easy to figure out what to do.

Experience

This crop was everything my husband and I were looking for. We didn't need well made, because we wanted to see if it was something that we were interested in at all first. After playing around with it, I have come to the conclusion that we do like having a crop available, but don't have a need to rush out for a really nice one. When this one goes, we'll probably invest in a nice one, but until then, we'll just keep using this.

Thanks! Me too, I mean, I know it's not going to last forever, but a few months at least would be nice, lol

I love my Spartacus crop. For the price though, I agree, this one is a nice introductory one. Great review.

Good review I may still get this as a stater crop even if it is not well made.

  • crops vs. floggers

In my and my partners expirience it is better to start our with a crop. They are easier to control the amount of pain and area it is meant for. We actually started with the Impressions crop, and are thinking about moving up to a tickler/ flogger combo, to get more of the feel for how your body reacts to being smacked. Also maybe try other things like ticklers, they can be used with te impressions crop to lightly pass over where you were hit to add new sensations. ;)

I hope this helped, and if you need anything let me know and I will do my best to help you.

Depends on what you are going for. Floggers tend to be more thuddy depending on several factors like cut, width, material, etc, and crops more stingy. They are very different sensations and I would say a better comparison would be Crops vs Canes, in which Crops would be less evil but still pack a punch. Floggers are generally a bit more work to get down right but its really hard to mess up a Crop, just make sure you hit the meaty parts of their butt and thighs.
Personally for me, I started with floggers because I didn't feel like inflicting a lot of pain, but I feel that both are useful toys in my bag.

I am definitely a crop fan. :) I like all sorts of impact play instruments though. :)
    • We've been toying with it. I think with the right one I'd definitely be a fan.
