Handcrafted leather bit gag - mouth gag discontinued by Sinvention - review by lexical

This beautiful black leather bit gag by Sinvention is intended to be worn about the head, buckling at the base of the skull with a lovely, metal fastener. The buckle has a metal loop which can be used with a padlock in order to secure the gag in place, to be removed at the will of the top/dominant/master/mistress/etc. The original purpose of this bit gag is to be used in pony play, wherein a person engages in roleplay as a horse or pony. The 5" long mouthpiece of the gag is meant to be held between the teeth like a bit, while reins are attached to the side rings, allowing for control by a pony’s driver or rider. However, that’s not all it’s for! I am personally not interested in that type of play, but I very much enjoy being gagged and this item delightfully does the trick.

If you want complete quiet, this is not the gag for you. It’s not the most effective gag for silencing a bottom, but it does make it very difficult to speak clearly, which makes it very sexy in my opinion. Who doesn’t love those sweet, muffled moans and the dreamy, slurred words filtering from behind the gag? I feel that this gag could easily be suitable for anyone to wear, from beginner to advanced. However, I would like to note that using the locking function may be a feature that should be reserved for those who are slightly more advanced. This will be addressed further in the “Personal Comments” section.

The design of this gag is absolutely lovely. It is unique compared to most bit gags, which have mainly have rubber or silicone mouthpieces. Mine has some nice teeth imprints on it from being bitten hard in the heat of the moment, but it has held up excellently in all other aspects. The soft, high quality leather is thick, yet supple, and is beautifully and cleanly stitched. It has a light scent and taste of leather which is very pleasing. The mouthpiece is pliable, which enables it to conform to the wearer’s mouth, rather than stiffly digging into the corners of one’s mouth. It’s not very bulky and gives the wearer a firm piece to bite onto, without straining the jaw with an uncomfortably large bit. While in use, the large metal O-rings lay flat against the cheeks and the length of the mouthpiece applies some pressure to the sides of the lips, which may become uncomfortable if worn for extended periods of time. The gag fits me quite well and is adjustable from 14-21 inches.

Unfortunately, the locking mechanism design of the straps make it somewhat difficult to adjust on one’s own, without being able to see what you’re doing, although it is manageable with two hands and some practice. Another negative is that the locking mechanism may be difficult to unfasten quickly in case of emergencies. Please see the “Personal Comments” section for further information about safety.

This product was everything I had hoped for. It fits great, is quite comfortable, and appropriate for many different users. As with all gags, there is a risk of some drooling due to being unable to properly close your mouth. I find that if I’m laying face down, this tends to happen far more than if I’m lying back, buuut…I happen to like that feature! However, it is something to be aware of, as it may not be for everyone.

This product is extremely simple to care for. Typically, I simply just off the mouthpiece with water, since I’m the only one who wears it. It is made of non-porous materials, which are also phthalates and latex free. The leather and metal components can be rinsed or wiped with a damp cloth and then allowed to dry thoroughly. You may use a mild soap if necessary. For storage, I just fold it up flat upon itself and slip it into a plastic bag.

The product came in a simple, clear plastic bag. It had a small tag on it bearing the Sinvention logo and a small amount of product information. However, there were not user instructions included. I believe because this item is fairly straightforward and only has one specific use!

When engaging in the edgier, riskier activities that accompany BDSM play, it is very important to communicate and observe property safety precautions. In short, be sure to agree upon a “safe-action” in place of a safeword, since the bottom will be gagged and will not be able to speak clearly. A safeword is intended to draw the top’s attention in order to address something that has arisen since the scene or play session has begun. Perhaps there’s a problem - a rope pinching, an action being too painful, or an uncomfortable change in the tone of the scene. You must be able to communicate this to your top in order to get full enjoyment out of your scene. Some examples of “safe-actions” might be snapping your fingers, dropping a set of keys from your hand, jingling a bell, or squeezing a small squeaky toy. This safety measure is absolutely imperative, whenever using a gag (especially a locking one!), which inhibits the verbal communication aspect of the scene. Feel free to have dirty, hot fun, but make sure you play it safe, folks!

I have not felt any pinching or abrasion while wearing this gag. It is very comfortable. After a while (say 30 minutes or so), the pressure to the corners of my mouth becomes somewhat bothersome, especially if I’m lying on my back and my mouth is dry.
