All taped up and nowhere to go - fantastic!
If you're looking for an alternative to rope bondage or just a multi-use item for your toybox, grab at least one roll. This bondage tape is easy to use for any situation and can be a fashionable addition to a fetish shoot as well. It doesn't get better than taping up your partner with something that only sticks to itself!Published: May 25, 2011
Pros:
Cheap, easy to use, disposable, strong, many uses.
Cons:
Difficult to re-use, gets hot.
M and I ordered our first roll of bondage tape way back at the beginning of our forage of kink. We haven't lived a day without it since. Fantasy bondage tape is a fantastic tool for your BDSM toolbox - it provides a wealth of restraint options without the need to learn how to use it as you would need to with rope.
This PVC tape sticks to itself, so there's no worry of ripping off skin (like duct tape) or pulling at sensitive parts of the body (unless you want to ^^). It's easy to wind around limbs such as wrists and ankles and can easily be wound or tied around furniture as well. We've used it for a blindfold, a gag, a body harness, and a nice bondage bra as well.
Pipedream makes a few different colours of their bondage tape - black, red, pink, and purple I know of for sure. The darker colours come from a different line than the pastels, but the packaging is similar. They all come rolled on a cardboard tube (similar to duct tape or packaging tape) in a plastic mold glued onto a cardboard backing. The packaging is crap for storage, but it takes up a lot of room so you won't want to keep it anyway.
This bondage tape also claims to be reusable, which it is...if you want to bother. Usually I'm a sucker for saving the environment but with this tape, M and I treat it as disposable. It can be re-used if you fold it up nicely or re-roll it, but there are a few issues. Firstly, it tends not to stick as well the second time around; M and I usually tuck the tape under itself to keep it secure the first time, but for the second round we usually have to tie it to keep the end from unsticking and the entire bondage scheme from unraveling. With all the tucking and twisting we often do during our first use, it also becomes difficult to un-stick from itself in order to flatten and roll up. Considering how cheap a roll is, we usually just toss it and start fresh if we need more.
So how much use can you get out of a roll? A lot, depending on what you do with it. M and I typically use the tape for ankle, wrist, and boob bondage, so I'd say we get 5-6 sessions out of each roll. If you're going to create an outfit or do a mummification, you'll probably need the whole thing.
We've tried the black and purple so far and I will say that I prefer the black wholeheartedly. The purple is a sort of lavender colour which is also partly see-through until you layer it up (which you will, because you need more than one wrap for the tape to stick to itself). It just wasn't deep enough or vibrant enough for my tastes. But the black....oh, the black is beautiful. The pvc has a gorgeous shine to it which I just love in black. It also looks more hardcore to me, and makes a pretty good blindfold.
My only reservation about this tape is that it gets really, really hot; you will sweat. Considering that people usually sweat anyway during sexy sessions, I didn't find it much of a problem as long as M kept me hydrated. It's an important responsibility of whoever is binding you with this tape to make sure you have enough water in your system (and perhaps a fan on).
If you're even a smidgen into BDSM, I highly suggest picking up a roll of bondage tape. It's easy to use, easy to throw in a backpack for use on the road, and its cheap and disposable. Get some in black - you won't regret it.

Experience
My favourite experience so far with our tape was the day M tried a mummification - he wrapped me first in saran wrap, then used the bondage tape to tape around important areas (under and over my boobs, crotch, etc). He used a bit more as a blindfold and as a gag, then put some ear plugs in so I was completely cut off from any sensation but touch. You should try it sometime. Really. Just stay hydrated because that shit gets really, really hot.
Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
This is and will always be the most useful item we own. I love breaking it out for our play sessions, from the most sensual to the most hardcore. We keep having to restock because we run out, and we're having even more fun trying out new positions and wrapping different joints in the tape. I just wish it came in a really deep purple, that would make my day!

Bondage Beginners

For beginners, would you recommend tape or some type of rope? How difficult is it to break free?
-
Quote: For beginners, would you recommend tape or some type of rope? How difficult is it to break free?I do not recommend rope for beginners. Two reasons. ONE: There is an art to finding "the right rope" since you are basically adapting an industrial use tool (rope) to sensitive, nude humans. Abrasions, allergic reactions, etc are the very least of your concerns. Which leads us to TWO: Rope Bondage requires skill. Not just to make pretty knots. It requires an awareness of anatomy so you know what parts of the body you are restricting blood flow from and what muscles/bones/ligament s are at risk when you force someone into an "unnatural" position or redistribute their weight. I know people who have long term injuries from inexperienced tops. Chronic pain, etc. What do you know about the circulatory system in general and this bottom's specifically? Buy some books, take a class. Buy Jay Wiseman's bondage for beginners videos. You wouldn't fly a plane without a lesson. Don't fly a lover with less care.
Tape obviously has less of the above issues because it adheres and therefore doesn't have to be overly tight to be restrictive. It moves with the person and is more likely to remove body hair than abraid or "cut" the victim. But beware of latex allergies and similar to saran wrap mummification, you still have to watch for circulation (and in the case of mummification or excessive taping --overheating) and the dangers from being stuck in one position (does your bottom have diabetes, hypoglycemia, problems that might cause clotting?) Longer bondage requires you to reposition the bottom. Check the extremities constantly. Fingers, toes, etc. Are they cold? Discolored? No one bound should ever be left unattended. NOT EVER. If you like the tie them up and walk out mind fuck, then put them in a blindfold and tell them you're going shopping, slam the door and sit down and read a book. But check on them frequently. Keep him/her in your line of sight. -
Quote: For beginners, would you recommend tape or some type of rope? How difficult is it to break free?As to the second part of the question: People tend to wriggle free rather than break free. So the difficulty depends on the flexibility and persistence of the submissive as well as the tension/strength of the bondage material. Tighter bonds do give less room for manipulative fingers but at the cost of shorter play time. I think it's fun to let them try and when they are close to escape, out comes the duct tape and reapply. Or actually let them "break free" enough to get good blood flow and mobility going and then retape them in a new position. Leather cuffs are the easiest to escape and are more for weight and psychological bondage than effective restraint. For safe effective bondage consider hospital restraints or straightjackets.

How long will a roll last?
-
The tape is actually reusable provided that you cut a length that you intend to reuse. It will get dirty after a while so we typically get through a couple of uses before throwing it away. It can also be a bit of a hassle to re-roll up. So, if you don't want to, I suppose it'll last at least a half a dozen sessions if you only wrap hands and feet. How many times you wrap around for tightness will also eat up part of the roll faster.

Quote: How long will a roll last?If you reuse it, it has the potential to last forever. I've been blatantly abusing a strip or two so I can write a really accurate review of it after a few more serious tests. x'D
And it's so darn shiny...I keep staring at it just because I love the look of it. ^_^

Bondage Tape

This is my favorite bedroom toy! It lasts forever and can be made into almost anything - restraints, a c-sheath, even a decorative outfit.
I'm not too sure on the claims it can be reused...it *can* be, but the work to untangle and then wash it isn't really worth it in my opinion...it's a really inexpensive toy so I just get another roll.
Word to the wise, it's always a safe move to keep blunt-edge safety scissors nearby when doing any sort of erotic wrapping...it allows for an easy exit if your wrapp-ee needs a bathroom break or gets uncomfortable. :) -

Less work, and way more fun! And I second the need for scissors near the bed, as when you first unroll the tape it can be ripped but once you start moving around a bit, the tape become folded in on itself some, and makes it impossible to rip!

I'm totally with you on this...it's an amazing product, even for those more experienced in bondage and fetish because its so affordable and easy to use. I tried reusing it ONCE though and it was a tangled, stuck-to-itself mess!

Thank you for viewing Fantasy bondage tape – suspension kit review page!

Awesome review! The only bad thing is that PVC leaches so I would limit use of this product and not use it internally or in the mouth as a gag.
Ooh, really?! I had no idea. Thanks for the heads-up!
