Traditionally, in BDSM a collar is placed around a submissive partner’s neck to imply ownership. A leash can be attached to it by clipping it onto the O-ring on the front of the collar. They can also be used as everyday fashion accessories and role-play equipments. The Pink Candy Collar is flexible in fulfilling the user’s needs. Design, material and craftsmanship:

The overall design of the collar is simple: a leather loop with an adjustable buckle. The base of the collar is its widest part. The base is made of two thick strips of leather stitched together; the pink layer faces outward and the white layer faces inward. The two layers are bound together by white stitching that runs along the perimeter of the base. Aslan left the edge of the white layer unfinished and unadorned while the edge of the pink layer looks rounded. Further examination of base’s ends shows the pink leather is only pink on the surface. The pink layer is made of a soft pink material on the surface with grayish material on the inside.



A thinner, much longer white fastening strap is pinned to the base by seven rivets. At first glance, it appears the strap uses the same white leather as the base. However, if you look at both pieces of leather from the side, the white leather on the base has a white grain while the strap has more of a gray grain. The edge of the strap is also a lot more frayed than the white leather on the base. One end of the strap curls over and secures the buckle. Instead of a straight pin, the buckle has a pin with a loop at its end. You can lock the collar in place with this loop. This mechanism prevents the sub from escaping the restraints.
The biggest rivet is situated on the buckle end. It pins through the strap, the base, and a tag that says “Aslan Leather Made in Canada”. The strap between the big rivet and a smaller rivet holds a D-ring. When you wear this collar, the strap would loop through the buckle then the D-ring. It is great for holding the excess leather. At the center of the collar, a triangular loop is mounted to the strap by another two rivets. An O-ring is connected to the triangular loop. Towards the pointy end of the leather strap, there are 6 punched rectangular holes in a line, which allow the collar to be adjustable. Depending on the size of the user’s neck, the pin of the buckle can go through any of the punched holes.






According to their site, Aslan used vegan “leather” for this collar. I am not an expert on leather, and I cannot tell exactly what process they went through and material they use to form this vegan “leather”. It is moderately soft to the touch. It has a very strong leather odor. I am not sure if the odor is from the material itself or Aslan applied some leather scented spray. The buckles, rings and rivets on the collar are made of metal. They feel very sturdy. The rivets are nickel plated, and should not be in contact with people with nickel allergy.

Unfortunately, this collar has several imperfections. The strap is cut too wide for the buckle. I can see that some of the leather on the strap is being shaved off by the looping it through the buckle a few times. On the base, the white leather is not cut with great accuracy. Some of its edges exceed the pink leather, and some don’t. While the strap and the base are stabled together firmly by the rivets, the strap doesn’t lay flat on the base. This creates an indentation on the pink leather when you try to wear the collar. The indentation would cave inside and make the collar smaller.

From my measurements, the collar fits a neck 12 ½ to 17 inches in diameter. You will want to measure your neck before getting the collar. It might be a little too small or too big for some people. I find it a little tight using the second to the last latch, but too loose at the third to the last latch. My neck measures about 15 inches.

When the collar arrived, I tore through the box and tried it on. To my surprise, I got a defective collar. The line of holes on the fastening strap was off-centered, and the buckle was also tiled. I couldn’t loop the white leather strap far enough into the buckle to fasten it. I had to return the first one.

Eden was very prompt with sending out the new collar. About a week later, I got the second one in the mail. This time the holes are centered, but the buckle is still tilted. I think the problem arises from the pin in on the buckle not being centered. The right side of the pin holds more leather than the left side, thus causing the buckle to be tilted. This then made looping the fastening white leather through the buckle harder. However, I was able to fasten the second collar with a little force. I decided to not return this one because I didn’t want to cause more trouble to the Eden staff. I am not sure if this is a common defect with this line.

After a few sessions of using the collar, it lasted through some rough tugging and pulling. I can definitely say it’s durable. Because of its width, I have to keep my head up or it becomes uncomfortable and chafes a bit. This works like a double-edged sword: it’s great when you want your sub to keep certain postures with head up, but it’s also very uncomfortable if you are wearing it as an accessory and want to move your head around. I love the pink in contrast with white. It compliments my skin tone. However, when I try to put my head down, I look like I have five chins! :(

Since the collar is made of vegan “leather”, I’d use the standard practices for cleaning and caring for leather products. Store it in a dry and cool place. Keep any moisture or humidity away from it. I normally store it in a zip-lock bag to form an air-tight seal. You can wipe away stains or dirt with a damp, soft cotton cloth; make sure to air dry immediately after exposure to moisture. To protect the rivets and metallic components of the collar, you could apply a thin layer of clear nail polish. This will help prevent moisture from contacting the metal (prevents rust) and therefore prolongs the lifespan of the product.

The first collar I received came with no packaging. It had a tag that stated Aslan’s lifetime guarantee. The second collar had no packaging and no tag. There were no instructions. Eden did provide brown boxes both times to make the shipping discreet.

I am not vegan, but I have no qualms with people who choose vegan products. Please note that an item made of “vegan leather” doesn’t automatically imply that it’s eco-friendly or animal friendly. It only implies the item is made of synthetic fiber instead of actual leather from an animal. Unless the manufacturer discloses the exact formulation or process of how the particular vegan “leather” was made, there’s no way to know whether the creation of the vegan “leather” involves environmentally unfriendly processes and materials.
