Pleasure tape - restraints by Pipedream - review by Sam (aka Jul!a)

What is it?

This pleasure tape is a unique way to experiment with bondage without having to worry about tape residue being left behind from something like, say, duct tape. It sticks to itself pretty well, and can give you the thrill of restraining your partner with tape without having to gingerly peel it away when you're done.

Ok, can you tell me a little more about it?

Sure! You can choose from pink or purple when you buy it. It'll show up in more packaging than it really needs, with the roll of tape in a plastic shell that's attached to a piece of cardboard that talks about the product a bit. The packaging isn't exactly discreet with the scantily clad model and "fetish fantasy series" plastered all over it, but if you take the roll out of the package it could easily pass for a roll of duct tape. The tape is about 2" wide and according to the product page is about 66 feet long. If you use it all the time, you might run out fairly quickly, but it should last most people for a while. It's shiny and smooth, and has virtually no drag to it when you run your finger across it. If you're close enough to it that you look like you're trying to snort it, you can detect the slightest hint of eau de pool toy, but it doesn't really have a taste. It also doesn't breathe very well, so keep that in mind when you're restraining as sweat can cause it to loosen up and maybe slip off.

That's awesome! Now how exactly do I use it?

Very similar to how you would wrap something with a large roll of tape. You can either unroll you think you'll need, or start wrapping and cut it off when you're done. For the first layer you'll notice that it's slightly see through. Things like my blue nail polish showed up through one layer, but not two. I couldn't see skin clearly through it after a single layer. You'll want to make sure that you wrap it around itself at least three times for maximum holding power. Any less than that and it might come undone with struggling. You'll also want to keep a pair of scissors handy to remove your piece from the rest of the roll, since it doesn't tear well. Something that's really nice about it is that you don't have to fold over the edge to keep your place like you might with other rolls of actual tape. Something else that's really nice is that it only sticks to itself. That means you don't have to worry about ripping out hair if you wrap this around a head for a blindfold or gag, and you won't be left with tape residue on your skin.

Sounds cool. What do I do with it when I don't want to play anymore?

Well, you can take that handy dandy pair of scissors and cut your restraints open. It's quick and easy, and all you have to do is toss it in the trash when you're done. If you're feeling a bit more frugal, you can unwrap the tape from around the area you've bound and wrap it around a pencil or pen, or try and wrap it back around the roll. You probably won't get infinite uses out of it, but you should definitely be able to use it at least once more.

Awesome! Just one more question. What exactly is it made from, and how can I clean it?

That's actually two questions, but they're both good nonetheless. The packaging and the product page have this listed as PVC, which is a plastic. This particular one has been softened with plasticizers, although I haven't seen anything more specific on what might be in this one. You can either dispose of it right after use, or you can wash it with soap and water or a toy cleaner if you want to try and keep it around.

Cool beans! Is there anything else I should know?

Just that the sky is the limit with how you want to use this tape. I wouldn't try anything daring like suspension, but pretty much anywhere you want to restrain your partner, you should be able to. Tape them to a bedpost. Tape their wrists together. Tape their wrists together behind their back. Hogtie them. Use it as a temporary binding to secure breasts (but seriously don't do that one for very long. This stuff isn't an appropriate binding material, and doesn't breathe to boot), or use it to create a skimpy bikini or other undergarments. Again, you probably shouldn't keep it on too long in that manner, but have fun with it, and be safe.
