Collared Pink

The Pink Candy Collar couldn't be more beautiful. Colored in hot pink and white, this is one collar that stands out in a crowd. The collar has a locking feature that gives the option of an even more submissive feel. The width of the collar is a bit much and restricts movement on me a good bit. In some situations this is perfect. In others, not so much. There's some shedding on one of the layers of leather - a bit of an annoyance to my anal retentive senses.

Use

The Pink Candy Jaguar Collar is made by premium BDSM leather supplier Aslan. It is part of the Pink Candy line that includes wrist cuffs, the Jaguar Harness, and the Minx Harness. The hot pink and white color scheme of the line is fashion friendly BDSM that allows the wearer to match up their bondage wardrobe.

A good collar is a great addition to a BDSM collection. It's probably not an essential for the beginner, but intermediate to advanced BDSM players will likely want to add one at some point (if you haven't already). Many advanced subs wear collars 24/7 and what better collar to wear than a hot pink one? If you're not quite ready to wear a collar all day, this can still be used just during play. A collar adds an additional submissive feel to the experience. A leash can also be added (though there's not one to match) so that the dominant partner can lead the submissive one.

With all BDSM play it is important to have a safe word in case things get out of hand. Better to have one and not need it than to need it and not have it!

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

SIZE

According to Aslan's site, this collar should fit neck sizes 12"-16". The total length of the collar is 19.5". The leather strap that goes around the neck is 16" long and 1.5" wide. There are six adjustable notches that are .5" apart.

My neck is 11.25" but this fits me in terms of actually going around my neck. I'm not sure if it would work the same way if you were out of the size range upward instead of downward. There is a good range available in sizes on this collar and it should fit a range of people.

The one issue I do run into with this is the width. At 1.5" this digs into me. If I keep my head held upward it doesn't pose a problem. The same is true if I am laying down. However, if I look downward or to the side it becomes uncomfortable. This is good and bad. When I wear this as a submissive and am tied up the fact that it is uncomfortable adds a little to the experience. It restricts my movement in a way which adds a layer of bondage to the collar. When I wear this simply as a matching piece to my Jaguar Harness and out of the submissive role, the restricted movement is an issue. Depending on how long your neck is and what the purpose of the collar is will depend on if this will be an issue for you.

MATERIAL/CRAFTSMANSHIP

There are three layers of leather to the collar. My usual disclaimer is that I don't have a ton of leather experience so you have to take my opinion with a slight grain of salt. I have a lot of purses and shoes, but that's about the extent of my leather expertise.

The inside layer is made of white vegan leather. I suppose vegan leather must be softer and this is done as a sort of padding on the inside. The inner layer is about 2mm thick. It is soft but not plushy. It does not add the same type of padding that you would get in an actual padded collar or something with a fuzzy lining. It has that sort of crinkly look that some leathers get. It is comfortable against the skin, but not super comfortable. It doesn't have a lot of give to it and won't bend to the skin if you move. As best I can tell, the material of this layer is high quality.

The second layer is the hot pink one. This is real leather. It actually feels softer to me than the vegan leather does. It has less of a crinkle look but still crinkled. When I first got this, the leather smell was very strong. It has gone down a good bit since I have had it for a while but can still be detected if I hold it to my nose. The stitching is done in contrasting white. This layer is on par with my other Aslan leathers and other high quality leathers I have run across.

The final layer is the one that is used to adjust and buckle the collar It is a white leather. It is a smooth finish and not crinkly at all. This layer I have a few little quality issues with. Now, I don't know if any of this stuff is typical in leather but I do know I haven't run into it with my other Aslan products and I know my purses don't have this. At the edges of the leather, there's almost like what I would call a shed of material. If it was lingerie I would classify it as a fray. This is also the case in the adjustment slots and it looks as if the smooth surface has a little bit of a bubble right near the slot where it is coming up slightly. I really don't know enough to speak to if this is a quality issue or not. I do know that it annoys me.

All of the metal is nickle plated steel, as per Aslan's website. It is lightweight. The ring makes a nice little jingle noise when you move. I know even less about metal than I do leather. This has passed my husband's metal inspection test which tells me it is good quality.

DESIGN

The front of the collar has a circular ring that is attached to a triangular hook. This allows the collar to be attached to a leash if desired. If not, it just adds an extra bit of decoration. It can also be pulled on without the leash attached to drag the wearer. The circle is 1.5" wide.

The buckle part of the collar has a locking feature. Instead of a pin closure, the collar closes with a circular closure. A lock can then be looped through so that the wearer cannot undo the collar without the key. This adds an additional level of submission and bondage to the collar. This feature will be best for more advanced users. Beginners probably shouldn't pull the locks out on a first use. As mentioned at the beginning, be sure to have a safe word ready and keep the key handy.

Here you can see the collar once it's closed both front and back:

Performance

As a submissive, this worked beautifully. It not only gave me the experience of wearing a collar but added the extra layer of restricting some movement. It hooked up to my leash just fine and withstood rough pulls with no problems. I was able to wear this for extended periods with no problems. The locking feature was especially appreciated. Nothing will make you feel more submissive than taking away the ability to remove the things than bind you.

Using this simply as a decorative addition to my harness, this wasn't quite as great. The restricted movement wasn't nearly as fun in a non-BDSM situation. Every time I would look down it would jab into me and I would be forced to reposition my head. As was using this with a harness, down was the way I wanted to look!

Here you can see it on so you can get somewhat of an idea of how it fit me:

I'm also a little put off by the shedding of the final layer of leather. Again, this may be totally typical of leather and not at all a quality issue. Nevertheless, it is an annoyance to anal retentive me. I still feel like the overall quality of the collar is higher than others I have come across, I just wish it didn't have that one issue.

Care and Maintenance

Aslan includes a nice little care tag with the collar.

The biggest rule in leather is not to submerge it in water. If you need to clean it you can use leather cleaner or a damp cloth with soap. You should dry it off immediately taking extra care around any creases that may collect water. You can use a leather protector to extend the life of the material.

Aslan recommends using a clear coat of nail polish on the metal to preserve it.

There is no packaging to store this in. We keep ours in a drawer which has worked fine. You can get a nice cloth bag of some type if you'd like. The white leather can get dirty so be careful not to store it anywhere dirt collects.

Packaging

There is no packaging. It just comes in Eden's box. Some Aslan products come in a plastic baggie but this does not have that. I wish these came with something nice to store them in, especially considering the white leather.

Personal comments

Even though I'm a little peeved with the shed, I would still recommend this collar. That is, I would recommend it if you think the size would be right for you. If you want something that is thin and simply for show, this probably won't be for you unless you have a very long neck. If you're looking for something that will restrict some motion and look lovely at the same time, Pink Candy is a great choice. It's especially wonderful if you get the matching set.

Experience

My experience with this collar was nothing but wonderful. That is, until I decided to try it just as an accessory and not as a sub. I didn't really notice exactly how much it restricted my movement until I didn't want it to. When I'm in the sub mindset, things like that don't bother me. It's a turn on to be restricted and the fact that it was happening didn't even really register clearly to me. Outside of that situation, the restricted range of movement was an issue. If I just wanted to wear this around the house (hey, it's pretty!) or match it to my harness, I was limited to looking forward or upward. Great for submission, not a great fashion accessory. I wish they made two of these - one in the larger size and one in a smaller size for regular wear.
