This paddle is made of leather, but be warned: the middle bit that provides the paddle with its color is just a thin sheet of paper, and it will rip. I tore mine out without much fuss, but it does look a little less impressive/sexy at first glance now as you have to strive to read the letters. The leather itself is well stitched together and the letters are neatly cut out. It's smooth, scentless, and easy to clean with a damp cloth should you need to. The handle is nice and firm; my dom had no complaints. Once you have the paper insert out, it's safe to go in the water.
