Don't Love this Love Mask

If you don't want to spend much, or just want to try something new, this mask could be a good choice. If you have a larger head, however, you might find this too uncomfortable.

Use

The Love Mask is a cheap introduction to experiment with light bondage or sensation play. It's a great option for any experience level, though some issues with the quality might make this more of a beginner's option. It's very cute and comes in a variety of colors, which means you can match it to your other toys. I would say you could use it as a sleep mask, but it is likely too uncomfortable to wear long term.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The design is nothing unusual or innovative - it is very much a standard sleep mask shape. This is good because, even if you're not using it as a sleep mask, it's unlikely that anyone would immediately associate it with sexy applications.

There are two elastic straps on the back to hold it in place. On the back there's a black tag with the Pipedream logo. I didn't find it interfered with its function at all. I got the pink and found that it was a light, shiny color. Overall, at the very least, it's a cute mask.

I did find that it fit oddly on the bridge of my nose, which enabled me to peek out the bottom a tiny bit. I do not have a pronounced bridge at all, so I'd imagine it could be a potential deal-breaker for someone with a larger nose. The straps also dug into the back of my head. My head isn't especially large, so this mask is probably best suited for someone with a very petite head.

One of my major complaints is the material. The satin is pretty low quality, which I expected and was okay with given the price. The mask itself feels like it's stuffed with a puffy foam or plastic, which gives a soft padding against the face. The problem is it makes a fairly loud crinkling sound, hence the "bees" (I can't believe I have to give a blindfold a bee rating). This may or may not be a problem during a scene (I personally found it a little distracting), but if you want to use it as a sleep mask it might be too noisy.

Performance

While I had no problems with it blocking out light, there was a problem with me being able to see out from under it.

I was also hoping to be able to use it for a sleep mask, but I found the straps were too tight to wear comfortably overnight, not to mention the crinkling noise. It doesn't ruin the product for me by any means, but I am a little disappointed.

For the price I wasn't expecting much, so I guess if nothing else I can say my expectations were met. I wanted something cute that I could use in sensation play and I got that. I definitely wasn't blown away by this though, and will likely be replacing it when I can afford a more comfortable, sturdy mask.

Care and Maintenance

I haven't had to do it yet, but I would hand-wash this in cool water with a mild soap, then hang to allow to dry. The mask doesn't seem like it would hold up well in the wash.

As for storage, it can be left in your toy box, tossed in a drawer - whatever! You will not, however, be able to store it in its original packaging, as the packaging needs to be cut open.

Packaging

The mask comes in a thin cardboard sleeve. As previously mentioned, there's no way to get the mask out of its packaging without cutting it open, which is kind of a shame. Unfortunately, you will need to be careful cutting it, because the product can easily be damaged trying to get it out of the packaging.

The package clearly reads "Fetish" and there's a lengthy paragraph about its sexual applications, so I would not call the packaging discreet in the least.

Follow-up commentary
I was never crazy about this mask, but after my second session using it I think I'll likely be packing it away. I've been trying to stretch out the elastic manually and it's helped a bit, but it's still digging into my head a lot. I had to stop in the middle of my last time using it to take it off because it hurt so much. Guess it's time to invest in a better version.

I am so glad I read this review before trying this as a sleep mask! I HATE loud, crinkly masks as well as ones that are too tight. I have a larger head, so all of this is a deal breaker, despite the price. Thanks for the review!

Shame this one seems crummy. I'm still on the lookout for a good mask.
