Fun, but don't forget the base!

This seems like it'll be a really fun and easy to use system. However; just using this crop top on its own isn't as awesome, though that's not the intent behind the toy. It has made me want to try out the interchangeable system as a whole though and I plan to purchase the base. I hope to be able to write a follow up review including how the system works together.

The Split Slapper is a top for Sportsheets interchangeable flogging system. It's meant to be attached to the base and give you versatility by being able to own just one base but have multiple options for the top. The split slapper is two pieces of leather held together to give a nice thwap of a slap when used. I can't vouch for how well the system as a whole works, as I just have this crop top, but I can say that the top is well made and is fun to use.

The leather is bound to the handle with thread and it definitely feels secure. There is also what appears to be plastic that fuses it to the handle, I don't know a whole lot about how things like this are manufactured, but I can say that I tried pulling it apart and it was definitely secure. We've used it a few times now and have given it some fairly strong smacks and it is holding together nicely. This really isn't something that gets dirty too often, but if you do need to clean it you can just wipe it clean.

It's pretty small, much smaller than I thought it would be based on the picture online. I was expecting a much larger item, but it fits in my hand and that's about it. This does make it easy to store though, just slide it in a drawer and it'll be good to go for when you need it. This is another benefit to this interchangeable system; if you buy several tops and then the one base you can easily store them all in a compact area, which for me is a definite necessity. We have kids and not so large of a bedroom, so it's nice to be able to store toys in a small area.

It gives a nice stingy slap, not all that painful, so it's probably best for beginners. I'm a true beginner to this sort of product since this is the first flogging toy I've ever owned. Compared to a hand it gave more sting though less actual pain, as long as we were careful not to allow the base part to hit against the skin when using it. See, the split part meets together and then has a plastic stick that comes down to form the handle. The part without any plastic inside is rather small, it doesn't give you much area where there's just leather hitting the skin, which for me was the fun kind of hurt we were looking for. When the plastic part hits the skin it's less stingy and more painful, which some will enjoy but for us wasn't really our goal. When slapping with the leather area we achieved reddening of the skin, but no lasting marks. If someone hit harder with this I can definitely see it leaving lasting marks though, and the plastic center could definitely end up bruising the skin. For us, that's not something we look for, but I know for many it is. Being that it's plastic though, I'm not sure how much hard core flogging it could handle.

I think it might be easier to control the slaps with a base attached, since that's how it's intended to be used. As it was it felt kind of silly holding this short handle and slapping with this miniature little crop. We kind of felt like we were giants who came across this miniature little flogging toy. But hey, maybe that could be a role playing scenario for someone! In the end, it was difficult to get a real feel for how it would work since I was missing this important piece of the equation. It did pique our interests though, and we'll be looking into the base for this system as a future purchase.
Experience
There are some things that are part of a set that still make worthwhile products on their own. This, however, is not one of those products, at least not in my opinion. I feel that on its own this slapper is too small to really be of much use. When we used it we couldn't see how it was any more effective than a hand was. Sure it gave a different sensation, which was nice, but the strokes needed to be too controlled since it was with such a small handle. Obviously, this is meant to be used with the base to this interchangeable system, so if you're looking into this slapper make sure to pick up the base as well!
