Fun Times -- Other Than the Accidental Blood Play Of Course

Perhaps for a BDSM player who enjoys a higher level of risk/danger in their play, the pinwheel would be great, but because of a hand slip caused by a bit of stray lube, the pinwheel accidentally turned our night into a game of "Quick! Find the bandaids!"

Use

I see a lot of reviews that keep suggesting The Wartenberg as great for even inexperienced BDSM players -- okay, I'm into far more vanilla BDSM (silk scarves instead of handcuffs) than most players, but I'm fairly experienced in the area (as light as my BDSM play may be) and I accidentally drew blood on my fiance with this little thing. I would say that this is for a moderately experienced player or above, no one else.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The Wartenberg is a well made device that has a considerable weight in your hand -- it isn't heavy, but you can tell it isn't cheap junk from the feel of it. Its handle is textured to give a good grip and it's slightly curved for the user's comfort. It isn't discreet at all -- unless of course you happen to be a doctor, as the Wartenberg Pinwheel started in the medical profession. Even then, I'm guessing leaving it on your end table would at the very least raise a few eyebrows. I think if I left it out, our roommate would probably try to cut a pizza with it.
    • Fits comfortably
    • Well made / sturdy

Performance

Even though the handle is textured to provide a good grip, I had some lube on my hands and my hand slipped as I was running the pinwheel over my fiance's stomach while using moderate pressure, and we actually drew blood (the pinwheel left a line of tiny holes when the accidental pressure was applied). Nothing that a good wash/use of Neosporin/Bandaid couldn't patch up, but still. We haven't used the pinwheel since. I know that it's a sharp toy and I knew that when I bought it, however, I expected a better handle design, something that sadly didn't really occur to me until it was too late.
    • Difficult to put on / use

Care and Maintenance

I boiled the pinwheel and put it in a pencil case (yes, really) and in the very back of our toy drawer. I also made sure it was all the way dry before storage because of the potential for rust problems. The pinwheel is far too sharp to be stored in a toy bag. Watch out!
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

The pinwheel came in a clear fronted bag that made me think of a Ziploc (it's about that thick). Not discreet packaging at all. There were no instructions included.
    • Minimal
    • No directions/directions not really needed
    • Not discreet

Experience

To be frank, I enjoy light BDSM and so does my fella, but the pinwheel became unintentionally scary when my hand slipped and we drew blood on his stomach. Normally a toy like this would be inside our comfort zone, but I don't know if ours was insanely sharper than the average or something, but it very quickly became too much by sheer, stupid accident (not a good thing when ANY level of BDSM play is involved).

    • Writing my review made me wonder -- has anyone had rust issues with the pinwheel sold here?
    • Interesting question. Since it's chrome plaited steel, I would assume it could possibly rust because chrome does oxidize over time.

Can't say that I have had rust issues - it's made of chrome-plated brass from what I've observed. My #1 problem with my wheels (regardless of source) is that you're pretty much on your own to find a suitable sheath - they will poke through many materials, and I've had at least one that poked through something and bent the tines.

That one does not get used in play.

  • Wartenberg Pinwheel: Any On The Way?
    • I'm literally aching to snag one of the Wartenberg Pinwheels link but they're sold out and I'd like to know when they'll be back, or maybe if theres one stray floating about the inventory from the move... I don't like the Fetish Fantasies one, it looks so cheap and less intense (a bad thing for me).

Does any of the warehouse people know if there's anymore of these buggers lying around? I just want 1! :(
    • I'll let the product manager know about this. Thanks for asking.
    • Hello ShadowKitten! The pinwheels are currently on order and we are hoping to have them available by the end of the week, so just hold on and they will be in soon.

  • Wartenberg Pinwheel
    • I'm curious to see if anyone's tried using a sewing tracing wheel as a less-intense alternative, or first step to using a Wartenberg pinwheel?
    • why would you want a less intense toy. The wheel is not all that bad.
    • The Wartenberg pinwheel is only as intense as you want it to be. If you lightly trace it over the skin, it isn't at all prickly, but the harder you press, the more intense it becomes.

  • Finally! The Pinwheel!
    • I was uber excited to see that the Wartenberg pinwheel will soon become available at Eden, but does nayone have any more info about it? Will toys from the Stockroom soon be available here? This totally makes my day!

      Thanks :D
    • I was definitely excited too, cannot wait to get it!
    • I'm super excited too and can't wait to buy one. Finally all of us squeaky wheels got our wish ;)

I think we're only carrying like one or two things from Stockroom.

I asked Maxim, our Product Manager, to hop in here and let us know when these will be in stock and all that jazz.
