Got a Sharp Bite, but Don't Be Scared of It!
This is a fun toy for foreplay for couples looking to do a little teasing (works great with blindfold) or domination or for those who like pain. However, it probably isn't very fun for a solo use, and good luck trying to put this on a carry-on if you are taking air travel to see your partner. It looks menacing, but you should not be afraid of it being too intense. With a light touch, it is very gentle, but you can also up the intensity if you put some more power behind it.Published: April 11, 2011
Pros:
-Quick sharp pain
-Cheap and well made
-Good for beginners or experienced lovers

Cons:
-The wheel bearings seem kind of weak
-A couple pins are not uniform (small manufacturing errors)

My partner and I bought this as a beginning fetish toy to mess around with in bed. I enjoyed a little pain during sex and foreplay, so we thought this would be perfect. The Wartenberg Pinwheel is a mean little toy that will give you a quick, light pain wherever its rolled (or a sharp one if you press harder). It reminds me of the "pins-and-needles" feeling you get when your arm or leg falls asleep.
While the spikes on this guy look mean, don't be afraid. With a light touch, it does not hurt very much and what's actually really great about it is, even if you run it hard up your lover's body, it will not leave a lasting pain. For people not sure if they like pain in their sex lives, this is a great toy to experiment with.
My girlfriend ran it up and down my legs, inner thighs and underarms, and it was a very stimulating experience. The quick pain really got my blood flowing and got me turned on quickly. For people who like scratching or the sting of slapping, this is the perfect sensation! It's also fun to use with bondage as the instrument-like look makes it very appropriate for domination.
Once you move from foreplay to actual intercourse, however, this toy should probably come out of the mix as it could be a danger to you or your partner during all the movement of sex.
We did not bother looking at the dimensions of the Pinwheel before buying it, so we were a little surprised when we saw how small it was. While using it, however, we didn't find that to be a problem. The small size makes it easy to control, and it has a good grip which makes it easy to hold on to, and the small pins are better than big ones which would probably leave lasting pain or marks.
The real con with this Wartenberg Pinwheel is that the bearings holding the wheel seem a bit weak. However, it's not like this thing is getting put through any intense work, so it shouldn't be a real issue. It just makes it appear to be cheap. The handle on the other hand is sturdy and solid and has a good weight to it. It even comes with a plastic sleeve, so you can store it and not have to worry about pricking yourself while you're looking for it in your toy box.
For $13, this is a great toy for people who know they like pain or are just experimenting. You have no reason to be afraid of it being too intense. Iith a light touch, it can be very gentle but still stimulating.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
My main concern with the toy was that the axis holding the wheel wasn't sturdy enough, but after 2 months it still works perfectly. Seeing as this toy doesn't get regular use, it will probably be a long time until anything happens to it.
Also it appears to be much better than the other versions I have seen on EdenFantasys and in Adult stores - both in design and durability.
I still highly recommend this product.

Writing my review made me wonder -- has anyone had rust issues with the pinwheel sold here?
-
Interesting question. Since it's chrome plaited steel, I would assume it could possibly rust because chrome does oxidize over time.

Quote: Writing my review made me wonder -- has anyone had rust issues with the pinwheel sold here? Can't say that I have had rust issues - it's made of chrome-plated brass from what I've observed. My #1 problem with my wheels (regardless of source) is that you're pretty much on your own to find a suitable sheath - they will poke through many materials, and I've had at least one that poked through something and bent the tines.
That one does not get used in play.

Wartenberg Pinwheel: Any On The Way?
-
I'm literally aching to snag one of the Wartenberg Pinwheels link but they're sold out and I'd like to know when they'll be back, or maybe if theres one stray floating about the inventory from the move... I don't like the Fetish Fantasies one, it looks so cheap and less intense (a bad thing for me).
Does any of the warehouse people know if there's anymore of these buggers lying around? I just want 1! :( -
I'll let the product manager know about this. Thanks for asking.

Hello ShadowKitten! The pinwheels are currently on order and we are hoping to have them available by the end of the week, so just hold on and they will be in soon.

Wartenberg Pinwheel

I'm curious to see if anyone's tried using a sewing tracing wheel as a less-intense alternative, or first step to using a Wartenberg pinwheel?
-
why would you want a less intense toy. The wheel is not all that bad.
-
The Wartenberg pinwheel is only as intense as you want it to be. If you lightly trace it over the skin, it isn't at all prickly, but the harder you press, the more intense it becomes.

Finally! The Pinwheel!
-
I was uber excited to see that the Wartenberg pinwheel will soon become available at Eden, but does nayone have any more info about it? Will toys from the Stockroom soon be available here? This totally makes my day!
Thanks :D -
I was definitely excited too, cannot wait to get it!
-
I'm super excited too and can't wait to buy one. Finally all of us squeaky wheels got our wish ;)
I think we're only carrying like one or two things from Stockroom.
I asked Maxim, our Product Manager, to hop in here and let us know when these will be in stock and all that jazz.
