This product is not what I would recommend for beginners. For beginners, I would suggest a fluffy pair of handcuffs, and if the restraint isn't enough of a kick, they can move up to these nickel handcuffs, which tend to be far less gentle. This product is obviously a good buy for anyone who wants to be dominated or is trying to bring out the aggressive side of an otherwise shy partner. The handcuffs are kinky enough to get his/her thoughts racing, but not so sexual that the recipient turns red from head to toe.

Okay! This is super important for you to read! I noticed after I got my ears pierced that if I wore cheap earrings, my lobes would turn kind of red and might hurt a little. It turns out it is very very common to be allergic to nickel, as it is a cheap form of metal. In all actuality, wearing these handcuffs doesn't cause me to break out. However, once, they cut into my wrists a little, and those cuts swelled a bit due to the allergy. Try explaining those marks to someone! In my experience, handcuffs almost always are comparable sizes. If you are being handcuffed and actually lay on your back, the metal cuffs aren't for you unless you're into some pretty good pain.

To answer the questions on this review...
These are significantly more lightweight than the professional grade police handcuffs. I'm actually a criminal justice major, and I totally support the idea of buying the real deal if you have the opportunity. I'd give professional cuffs a 5 star!

I expected this product to be less forgiving than fuzzy handcuffs, as all users should. In my case, my mild allergy to the nickel made this product not worth the use due to some swelling where the cuffs had cut into my wrists a bit. Of course, these handcuffs can be used for role playing, and the handcuffs don't need to stay on the whole time. In this way, they weren't really a waste of money. Plus, leaving a pair of handcuffs on the table kind of tells your partner what's up for the night. Finally, obviously, the fuzzy handcuffs make role playing kind of silly.

Easy to store. Store it anywhere that isn't damp.

No instructions needed. I've noticed a trend in not including instructions even with items that could use them!
