This Lover's Paddle is made up of two different materials; velvet and vinyl.

The velvet is what the majority of this paddle is made from. The surface has a a nice, soft texture to it, but has a very faint drag. The material collects a lot of lint and hairs, so keeping it in a drawer or toy box is a smart option, but cleaning it off is as simple as using a lint brush or wiping it off with your hands.

The top of the paddle is divided into two separate pieces; each side has a heart cut out of the center. This is what causes the great sound that comes from each hit. It's very flexible and can easily bend back and forth, but the handle doesn't have the same type of movement. Inside the handle is a thin rod that prevents it from bending. The rod is completely surrounded and no part of it is exposed other than the small humps on either side that are seen through the material.



Along the sides of the handle to about 2 1/2" onto the paddle is red stitching. It goes straight across 1 7/16" from the very bottom of the hearts. The stitching blends in with the rest of the red velvet very well and seems to be quality work. The sides of the paddle all the way up are completely together without the need of stitching, but it's a nice added detail and seems to help keep the rod in place if nothing else.

At the base of the handle is a small hole where the vinyl cord is attached. The cord is long enough that it could easily be hung on a nail or hook, but it isn't nearly long enough to be used around your wrist. It's shiny and black and is simply knotted at the top. If you were more interested in having a cord that would be long enough to go around your wrist, it would be very easy to replace the one that's there.


The paddle is durable enough if you only use it for light play, but I imagine if you're too rough with it, it won't hold up over time. Even when trying to smack as hard as possible, the paddle responded well and it felt solid in my hands. Spreading the top flaps really far would be the only way I could picture this paddle becoming useless.

The size is great to use for situations where you're closer to your partner than not. The full length is 12", 5" of that is the handle. The heart in the flappers is 1 3/4" wide and 1 3/8" tall. The whole piece is 1/4" thick other than the flappers which are each half of that. The paddle area is 2 7/8" wide and the handle is 1 1/2" wide. It's a non-intimidating size that is great for a beginner.


When I first received this paddle, I put it up to my nose and it smelled musty to me. I thought maybe it was because I had just removed it from the bag it was in, but even after it being out of the bag for a while, the musty scent is still there. It's not obvious when in use, but is there should you put it close to your face.

This flapper paddle does its job well; it creates a great whacking sound without having the pain associated with the slap. There is a slight thuddy, tingling sensation that's associated with each hit, but even when there's a lot of force behind each blow, it's not enough to cause pain. This makes it a great choice for someone who is experimenting with BDSM or someone that prefers light play, but won't satisfy someone who needs heavy play.

The sound of the whacks can easily be heard through a closed door, so if you're living with roommates, it's best to keep the slapping for when they're not home.

Since there are hearts cut out in the center of the flappers, it would be safe to assume that each whack will produce a cute little heard shape in the area that was just slapped. However, that's not actually the way it works. Eden states that to clean Velvet, Spot clean with a water-free dry cleaning product, wiping in the direction of the pile (so the pile lies down). When the fabric is dry, brush gently with a suede brush, first against, then with the pile.

Try to avoid contact with lubricant and other bodily fluids to ensure the life of your paddle. Storing away from dust and items that produce lint is also the smartest option; a drawer, toy box, or something similar would work best, but if you're using this for display only, dusting as you would the rest of your room would be totally fine.

This isn't a discreet item, so leaving it in the open isn't a smart choice if you're trying to be discreet about your sexual lifestyle. It would be hard to mistake this item for anything other than a paddle.

The packaging that comes with this paddle is extremely simple. When it first arrives, it's inside a small, clear plastic bag that contains no markings on it. The bag is easily torn off and can be recycled.
