I'm just now beginning to try things like ball gags, nipple clamps, and restraints. I wanted to see what it was like to wear a ball gag while being intimate with my partner. However, I knew that is not the only reason people wear ball gags. Since this is my first experience with a ball gag, I wanted to do a little bit of research on all the uses a ball gag can be used for.

According to Wikipedia, people wear a gag for a variety of reasons. Gags are usually associated with roleplays involving bondage, but that is not necessarily the case. The person who wears the gag is regarded as the submissive partner, while the one not wearing one is regarded as the dominant one. When combined with other physical restraints, the wearing of a gag can increase the wearer's sense of helplessness and anxiety level within a BDSM scene, by depriving them of a means to influence the progress of a sexual activity through speech. Some people enjoy the feeling of surrendering the ability to speak to another person in an activity. For some people, gags have connotations of punishment and control, and thus can be used as a form of humiliation.

Safety Precautions
Placing a gag on anybody is risky, as it involves a substantial risk of asphyxia if the subject's nose is blocked while wearing a gag. Using a gag on somebody who has a common cold, flu, or common allergies is also quite dangerous, as most gags make it difficult or impossible to breathe through the mouth. Vomiting and choking also pose a risk, which further blocks the airway. For this reason, a gagged subject should never be left alone. It is also nice before you start playing to have a safety precaution in place such as holding an object in your hand and dropping it.

This particular gag is a wiffle gag and is considered a simple ball gag that replaces the standard solid rubber ball with a light plastic ball. It is generally safer because there is constant airflow. For that reason, I think this ball gag is best suited for beginners who are wanting to try a ball gag for the first time and do not want a solid ball gag. However, the ball has a 2" diameter so the wearer has to have the ability to open their mouth and be comfortable to accomodate this size.

This is a breathable ball gag from the Sex and Mischief series from Sportsheets. The ball gag has 16 total breathable holes. 8 holes on the top half of the ball and 8 holes on the bottom half of the ball. There is a visible seam that runs across the middle of the ball. The ball is hollow inside and allows the strap that connects the ball to the piece to run through it.



The strap of the ball gag that wraps around your head is very similar to a belt. It has 11 holes in the strap that can be adjusted to fit different size heads. You join one side of the strap to the other by placing the metal clasp through the hole in the area that fits your head and then looping the excess through the clasp of the strap. Again, it works just like you were trying to fasten a belt. Here is a picture of the metal clasp being done on the first setting.



It was somewhat difficult to get exact measurements for the ball gag, but these are the approximate hole measurements taken from the inside of the ball gag. The gag on the first setting through the eleventh setting around are as follows: 23", 22", 21 1/2", 21", 20 1/2", 19", 18 1/2", 17", 16 1/2", 15 1/2", and 15". As you can see if your head measures 15"-23" around then you will be able to wear this. I'm not sure what a persons average head size is, but my head measures around 19" across my mouth from the back of my head.

From the end of the buckle to the other end of the strap, the ball gag measures 26". The thinner area where the ball gag lies is 6" long. The ball gag can move back and forth through this area. The width of the strap is 1" and the small area where the ball gag is 1/4" wide. The ball measures 5 3/4" up and down and from side to side all the way around. As far as fit goes, the ball is about the same size as my mouth so I'm not able to fit it into my mouth comfortably, but along the outside of my mouth. My husband is able to get it in his mouth but his mouth is larger than mine. According to the packaging, the ball has a diameter of 2" so if you're able to keep your mouth open for a long period of time for these dimensions then this ball gag could be for you. I personally need a smaller ball to fit into my mouth comfortably.

In the strap, the first hole starts about 1 1/4 away from the edge. The last hole is about 3 1/2" away from the edge on the other end where the metal clasps are connecting the thinner strip of material to this material. Each hole is spaced approximately 3/4" apart.

According to the packaging, this breathable ball gag is made of vinyl with polyester backing, ABS plastic, and nickel free metal hardware. The strap is what is vinyl with polyester backing and the ball gag is what is considered ABS plastic. ABS plastic is considered an 8 on the safety scale and is considered a non-porous and phthalate-free material with a firm, smooth texture. It is also hypoallergenic, latex free, and made of food grade material.

The outside of the strap has somewhat of a shine to it, but the underside does not. There is a single row of black stitching along the edges of the strap. There are no loose threads or unfinished edges in the stitching. The thinner strap does not have any stitching and does have some rougher edges where the ball has been sliding back and forth. The buckle is looped through the material and sewn underneath and attached with a metal stud. Overall, I think this product is well made. I do not see if you are careful with it and not rough that you should have any problems with it. If you are rough, I could see the potential of the thin straps breaking free eventually from the metal studs that hold the pieces together. I pulled on the material and did not have any issues, but I could see where this would be possible if you continually pulled at the piece. Also, I'm going to make the assumption that just like a belt if you continually put the metal through the same hole, after awhile the hole will get worn out.

The ball gag did not have any odor at all and did not have any taste. I am glad for this because I was looking for a ball gag that was not made of rubber because the idea of rubber in my mouth didn't seem appealing to me.

This was my first ball gag that I have owned. I like that it is considered to be breathable, doesn't have an awful taste, and the straps are adjustable to accomodate for many different sizes of heads. I had no trouble slipping this on and adjusting it to the correct setting for my head. I like the whole aspect of having a gag; it brings on a whole different aspect of my play time with my significant other and I think that is very sexy. Generally, a ball gag's purpose is more of humiliation rather than silence; the wearer can still be heard, but it renders their speech completely unintelligible. This wasn't exactly the case for me since I couldn't fit the ball in my mouth so I was able to talk but it sounded like I was in a tunnel but you could understand what I was saying. The odd thing about the ball gag was every time I took a breath you could hear a whistling sound through the gag.

As far as my first gag goes, this meets my expectations because I did not really know what to expect. I've seen them before, but have not had the opportunity to use them myself. I am disappointed that it's the same size of my mouth and I am not able to comfortably insert it into my mouth for long periods of time, but I did have fun using it.

You can wash vinyl with warm water and toy cleaner or mild soap using a soft cloth or ordinary long-handled, soft bristle brush. The plastic ball can be easily cleaned with antibacterial soap and hot water or by wiping down with isopropyl alcohol.

I store mine in my lingerie drawer with all of my other toys.

The ball gag came in an oversized cardboard box for the product. That was the first thing my husband said when we received it in the mail. He thought the company could have saved a lot of packaging by boxing the item in a smaller square box instead of the large rectangle box that it came in. Here are pictures of the box and the ball gag that was wrapped in plastic inside the box.





As you can see, the packaging isn't discreet and is really too big to store your item in. There were no included instructions to this product.

For my first ball gag, I found this to meet my expectations. I really like the features of this product and believe as long as I take care of it, it will meet my needs for a long time.
