Etherea silk cuffs by LELO - review by Lily Night

Having recently left the world of being a broke college student, these cuffs are our first venture into luxury toys and it turns out that we finally can have nice things! The Etherea Silk Cuffs by Lelo are beautiful, well constructed, and should give us years of enjoyment. I feel that these should be used for lighter play, because anything rougher and you would risk damaging these beautiful cuffs.

Each of the two cuffs included are made up of two parts. There is a figure eight shaped cuff portion, and a tie that runs through the cuff that is used to attach the cuff around the wrist or ankle. The cuff parts are 7.25 inches long and 2.5 inches wide at the large part of the dog bone. One side of the cuff is silk and the other side is suede. The tie part slides through a passage in the cuff and is 44.5 inches long and 0.75 inches wide. The cuff portion isn't attached to the tie which, means that it can be slid to anywhere on the tie, and if desired, both cuffs can probably be slid onto one tie.

The construction is excellent with no loose threads anywhere, and the seams on the ties are barely visible on both the sides and end of the tie. The cuff is well sewn with one set of stitches around the edge to hold the material together and one set on the inside of the suede where the tie pulls through. There is one small tag on each cuff located at the point the tie goes through the cuff. The silk and suede are a beautiful dark plum color, and I feel that ours is slightly darker in person than shown on the product page. The silk ties and suede are both extremely soft and feel luxurious. The cuff portion has one side soft suede and one side that is silk with a flower pattern that almost strikes me as tropical. According to the box, the silk is 100% real silk and the suede is high quality sheepskin suede.

These cuffs fit both my partner and I comfortably without having a gap between the suede pieces. However, we both have fairly slim wrists so people with wrists larger that 7 inches around will experience a gap here. The cuffs can be worn with either the suede side or the silk side against the skin, however they can be tied tighter with the silk side inward due to the size of our wrists. These cuffs are extremely versatile because the cuff portion can be moved about on the tie. The cuff can be tied on one end with the remaining tie used as a restraint. They can both be tied in the middle and tied together like handcuffs, or both cuffs can be slid onto one tie for a combination.

Because these cuffs are made from both real silk and suede, the care and maintenance is slightly more complicated than with some products. On the box, the only recommended cleaning method is dry cleaning, which could definitely lead to some interesting conversations with the clerk. According to the EdenFantasys guide to materials, suede will require special suede cleaners, but silk can be hand washed in tepid water. In the case that these cuffs do get dirty, I think we will end up taking a slight risk and spot cleaning with a damp cloth. The best way to prevent a tragedy and protect the suede would be to waterproof it with a leather or suede protector. This is the only way I can think of to mitigate the possibility of damage to the material before it happens.

This product had wonderful packaging. To start off, there is a glossy cardboard box with the Lelo name and picture of the cuffs on the front. The bottom has another picture, a product description, and care instructions along with a description of what the cuffs are made of. On one side there is the product description in four different languages. Inside of this box there is another box. This one is made of a much heavier cardboard than the other box and simply has the Lelo name embossed into the lid. On the inside of this one, the cuffs came nestled inside a very high quality piece of tissue paper.

My only complaint is that the box is slightly shorter than the cuff portion of this product so it takes some creative folding in order to get the cuffs back into the box and the lid closed. Despite this fact, we will be using the box to store the cuffs because it is such high quality, and very discreet so nobody would be the wiser.
