Lights Out
This is a stylish and well made leather blindfold that will hold up to a long career of use - for a foray into sensory deprivation play, this mask gets the job done and gets it done right!Published: July 19, 2011
Pros:
Blocks 100% of light, comfortable, well made, stylish
Cons:
Expensive, not adjustable
This looks like a pretty straightforward leather and fleece blindfold, because that's what it is. It's made of a nice thick leather and wonderfully fuzzy fleece, which makes it easy to wear for as long as you would like. The thickness of the leather does a fabulous job of blocking light for complete blackness, and the fleece, while making it comfortable, also makes it difficult/undesirable for you or your willing volunteer to open their eyes and peek around.
The stretchy elastic band is non-adjustable besides being stretchy, so perhaps this would not be a perfect choice if you have an extremely large or extremely small head but for most people it should be a good fit. I've worn this mask as an actual nighttime sleeping mask and found it quite comfortable.
Should you get something on it, you can spot-clean it with water, and a little leather conditioner once in a while would probably do it good, but I've had the good fortune to not get it (too) dirty. When it is new, the fleece may shed a little bit and give you a few little black fuzzies but after a wearing or two it should stop. Given that it is made of leather and fleece, I would not advise wearing this in, say, the bathtub, shower, pool, or while jello-wrestling, unless you want to have it dry-cleaned. And let's be honest - taking your BDSM stuff to the cleaner is always a little awkward.
The compact nature of the mask - it is made to cover just your eyes, about a 2.5" strip of your face from the top of the cheekbones to just above the eyebrows - lends itself well to... well, use your imagination. It does not impede breathing or get in the way of kissing, licking, or other creative mouth-uses.
The price tag may deter some - the options for blindfolds are endless - but this is a well made, aesthetically pleasing article that will go well in anybody's collection.
