Fleece lined blindfold - headgear by Spartacus - review by Red Vinyl Kitty

I'm on the quest for the perfect blindfold right now. Something that will block out light, and be comfortable to wear for long periods. When I saw this blindfold, the design of it looked perfect for that, but in practice this blindfold wound up being a lot less comfortable than planned, in certain positions. More on that later.


The blindfold is easy to put on and use, and I think that both beginners and advanced users will like the blindfold a lot, again, depending on what you want to do with it.

The blindfold is made mainly from leather. It also has fleece and an elastic band. The stitching is very well done, and this piece is obviously going to last a very long time, whether I want it to or not!


The elastic band in the back will stretch from fourteen to fifteen inches, but no more than that. Users with large heads, beware! The blindfold has a very light leathery smell to it, but it isn't very noticeable, even when you're wearing it.


The stitching on the front of the blindfold is beautifully done, and the elastic band is sewn right into the blindfold itself. This lends itself to a very smooth and lovely appearance, without the bunches of stitches that sometimes wind up on the sides of similar products.


The fleece on the inside makes this blindfold about a half an inch thick. For some users, this may be uncomfortable because the fleece coupled with the short head strap can sometimes put too much pressure on the eyes. I wish there had been a bit more elastic or a bit less fleece, to combat this.

In use, I love and hate this blindfold. If I'm standing up, laying supine, or basically in any position except for face-down, this is a brilliant blindfold. It makes it hard to see anything though you can peek a tiny bit out of the corner if you open your eyes. Due to the fleecy inside though, I find that I don't really want to open my eyes up as much underneath this blindfold, so being able to peek out through the nose part a bit is less of an issue. I'm the type of girl who does open her eyes and blink under a blindfold though, but for me, the blindfold prohibits that pretty nicely.


The biggest problem I run into with this blindfold is the fleece. If I am laying on my stomach, my face only has one place to go generally - to the side. I find that if I put my face down to either side, the fleece that pads the inside of the blindfold puts a lot of pressure over the eyes and causes some very non erotic pain. The pain seems to last for a while after the blindfold comes off, too. If you don't like pressure on your eyes, and you tend to spend a lot of time flat on your stomach when playing, you probably aren't going to like this blindfold. For most other positions I have no problems.


I also find the elastic band that keeps the blindfold on my face to be just a little bit uncomfortable. It's not a huge deal, and for me, not a deal breaker, but I do wish the elastic band was a bit thinner. As thick as it is now, (almost three quarters of an inch) it cuts into my ears a bit.

You should never get leather wet, so this poses a slight problem with the inside of the blindfold being fleece. If you or your partner tends to sweat a lot, cleaning the inside of the blindfold is going to be a big pain. You could possibly wipe it down with a damp cloth, but I'm not sure that will get this as clean as you'd like. Unfortunately, if you're a very sweaty person I'd recommend staying away from this one.


You can use a leather cleaner on the outside of the blindfold, but unfortunately since leather is porous, you can't sterilize it. Use care and don't share with anyone you're not fluid bonded with, should fluids accidentally get on your blindfold.


For storage, my husband and me just have a bin for head gear and blindfolds, and we just slide this on in there with all the other equipment. It's rather thin so you could definitely fit this is a toy bag or drawer.

The blindfold arrived in just a plain plastic see-through bag. Nothing fancy here. You'll want to find some other way to store your blindfold for certain.
