Mischief Not Managed.

With light seeping in around the corners, a heat inducing material and uncomfortable body, this blindfold has limited uses. For those who are used to the feel of a blindfold and can ignore brightness, it's a good, thick and easy to use blindfold. Still, this isn't for anyone who wants quality or elegance in a blindfold.

Use

There are two types of people who use blindfolds, people who want to reduce visual sensation in order to heighten the senses and sense of danger in the bedroom and those who would just like to sleep well at night. Oh, and those who want to prevent Kira from knowing their name, also the other types people who wear a blindfold that weren’t mentioned.

Judging by the phrases on the packaging, “Unsure if there’s even anyone else in the room is as exciting as it is unsettling” suggests both couples and individuals are the target audience. Indeed, the blindfold could either be used by those alone, blinded, with nothing but their imagination, or with couples, exploring the darkness their own way. There aren’t any restrictions based on sexual orientation, or if there are, I really don’t understand blindfolds.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

First some simple stats. The mask itself is about 8.5 inches long, 3.5 inches tall at its tallest and about the same length as a manga.

A few tests demonstrated multiple flaws in the mask, undercutting its very purposes. To begin, wearing it will not restrict light, as there are gaps along the bottom and sides of the mask which allows light and peeking. Moreover, the studs connecting the straps to the body are bulbous and distracting when worn.

That being said, the mask does have its share of qualities. It’s thick enough to keep out the light and would probably create perfect darkness if it weren’t for the gaps. Further, the polyester material doesn't have a distracting smell, or any smell, which helps maintain the illusion of blindness. Unfortunately, the other effects it has on the senses are distraction enough.

When lying down, the mask weighs heavy on the face, pressing down all night, until sleep seems easier without it. While standing it’s no less distracting, making it hard to notice anything but the weight. Worse still, the mask doesn’t stretch over or down, which, as mentioned, creates distracting gaps.

Performance

The lack of complete darkness significantly hinders the blindfold, regardless of the intentions of the wearer. When sleeping, there are still feint amounts of light that could be distracting to light sleepers, to say nothing of comfort. Attempts to sleep wearing the mask were abandoned within twenty minutes in favor of sleeping without the blindfold, brightness be damned.

BDSM roleplay may or may not be enhanced, it's subjective, depending on the person. The light allows the wearer to know whether or not someone is alone, which on the one hand takes some of the suspense out of roleplaying. On the other hand, it doesn’t reveal much more than if someone's present, so there’s still plenty of intrigue.

For sensory enhancing though, the gaps are pretty damning. Other senses can only be heightened if focus on sight is stopped and redirected, which cannot happen with the distraction of light. Smaller heads may still find this useable, though, but they’re the only ones.

One final attriute is that it protects the wearer’s name from being seen by a shinigami or someone with the shinigami eyes.

Care and Maintenance

With a nonstick polyester material, cleaning is as easy as using an Eden wipe. Machine, or even hand washing aren’t recommended due to its delicate body, especially the strap. With a thin body and discrete appearance, storage isn’t a problem, it could be worn while flying and not arouse suspicion.

Packaging

While the mask itself is only 8.5 inches long, the packaging is longer than a foot and the box it was shipped in as nearly two feet long. This could have been shipped in a plain envelope without any loss, in fact it would have been more discrete than the "sex and mischief" envelope which is about as discrete as a malfunctioning vibrator in a purse. Although the quote from “The Sounds of Silence” on the back of the package was fit really well.
