The Gated Barbed Wire Flogger by Ruff Doggie Styles is a flogger. If you are unfamiliar a flogger is an instrument used to flog a person. You take the flogger and you hit a person with it. Now I want to stress that a flogger can be a dangerous toy to play with. You can exert enough force to harm a person with floggers. I do think this toy is suitable for beginners and advanced users alike, but I think you need to read up on floggers a little bit before you use one, because they can be a dangerous toy.

So as for the gated barbed wire flogger specifically. This thing looks scary, the first time my girlfriend looked at it she said there is no way you are using that on me and told her let me hit you with it just once. And I did and she went "Oh, well that does not hurt at all really". The "barbed" sections are harder and a bit stingier, but they really look more intense than they are. And that would be my favorite feature I think is the aesthetic of this toy, you get a lot of psychological thrill out of this toy with it still being very usable.

As I said earlier this toy could be used by beginners to advanced users. I would not buy it as a first flogger, but as a second one I think it would be fine. So you might consider it a intermediate to advanced toy.

So if you are unfamiliar with floggers you might be asking yourself what does one actually do with a flogger. Now there are two main ways to use a flogger in my opinion. The main way to use one is to hit a person with it. You swing the falls at them and they make contact with the person and they cause a sensation. You can provide anywhere from a light and warm sensation to something more painful and intense. Typically flogging a person is associated with a rush of endorphins, a pleasant sensation, and a warm, erotic sensation. That is why people allow themselves to be flogged. The top or dominant person tends to enjoy flogging because they like giving their partner pleasure, or they like being in control and exerting dominance, or some other reason (I prefer to be flogged, so I do not pretend to understand the flogger's mindset as well as I understand the floggee's mindset).

It is just very distinct and very unique to the other floggers I own. Definitely in terms of design this is a great toy that I absolutely love.

Overall the toy is well made. The leather seems to be securely attached to the handle and overall the craftsmanship seems good. I think this flogger will last quite a long time as long as it is cared for properly. The small issue with this flogger is that the handle is not balanced. When you hold the flogger you can tell the falls are heavier than the handle. This is not a big issue, especially with the price of the flogger, but if you want something to use for extended periods of time this will tire you hands/wrists faster.

The toy is made primarily out of suede. Suede is a specific type of leather. It is the inside of the hide and is therefore soften, but also not as strong. It is a very soft and very pleasant material and is great for floggers. It provides a nice thuddy feel to it. All of the red falls are made out of suede.

The barbed wire strands seem to be made of braided leather. They could be something else. It is hard to tell. They are very hard and seem extremely durable. It is hard to say much about them because I cannot find out exactly what they are. If they are made out of leather like my assumption they should last a very long time and be very durable. The one issue with them is they tangle up the other falls. The barbs tend to grab hold of the other falls and it gets tangled a bit. It is easy to remove them, but if you swing this flogger a bit funny it tends to keep bunching up. Not a real issue, just means you need practice with this toy.

The toy smells nice. It smells like leather when you first get it and that smell eventually fades over time. The handle is nice to hold. The woven leather on the handle is a little bumpy and I have found other handles I like more, but it is still comfortable. This is a cheap flogger and I think you really get good quality for your money, but you do not get absolute luxury (for example the G-spot flogger EF sells). Overall my girlfriend likes to use this on me and has no complaints about it.

Flogger:

This toy definitely performed great. It was different than what I expected though. Initially I thought this toy was going to be very stingy no matter what, but when using this toy I found moderate swings to actually be quite thuddy. As you increase the amount of power this toy gets a lot stingier and has a lot more bite, but you need to use some force for that to happen. You need to get the barbed strands to fly with some force to make it stingy.

I think this is great, because it makes it a very versatile flogger. You can start out with lighter swings to warm up both you and your partner. And then you can get harder and harder until you are at the pain level your partner wants. I think that makes this a really great toy.

As I mentioned earlier the handle is not perfectly weighted. So when using it your arm can get tired, but overall not a huge concern.

I found no other applications to use this toy. As I mentioned in the beginning you can just drag this toy across your partner's body, or you can swing it at them. Some people like this use a flogger to choke their partner. So you put the falls under their chin and pull upwards a bit. This would be unique with the barbs on this flogger.

Overall just a really good flogger that has a wide range of sensations and is one we often pull out during out sexy times.

Floggers do take some care to them. It is hard to encapsulate all of it in a review. But here are the basics.

Most floggers are never cleaned. This is because washing a certain area on the falls will cause it to change its shape and this can throw off the entire flogger. They are mostly just left alone. If you do have to clean an area because it got bodily fluids on it use some soapy water and just dab at it a bit until you clean up most of the fluid. Getting suede wet kind of wrecks it so there are special cleaners for it. Again there is always the balance of keeping the flogger clean and not trying to wreck the integrity of the flogger. Air will actually kill most bacteria after long enough. If you were to hang it up for a week it is pretty safe to say there are no more bacteria on the flogger, but you can never be 100% sure. Sunlight will kill bacteria faster, but it will dry out the leather and cause the colors to fade, so I would not recommend it.

It is best to hang a flogger up to keep the falls in their original condition and not to get any folds, bends, or kinks in them. If you cannot hang it try to store it flat (so not bending any of the falls) to keep it in the best condition. You will want to store it in a cool dry place. You do not want any mildew growing on the leather.

The flogger comes wrapped in a plastic sheath and nothing else. Overall it is very simple packaging. There are no real instructions that come with the flogger. The plastic can be recycled. You can also see through the plastic so it is best to open this toy somewhere private.
