Nice starter, but lacks stamina
For the nervous beginner who is just getting into kink, or just exploring this fetish for the first time with a product, you can use this with little worry of hurting your partner too badly. It's well within limits of newbie pain seekers.Published: May 6, 2009
Pros:
Cheap, nice starter for nervous beginners.
Cons:
Intermediate to expert caning/spanker folks will be disappointed.
I find it a bit iffy to review this crop in full context. I am not as experienced at caning/spanking as others may be, but I feel that this was a nice starter. The initial look was pleasant. It had the cute red imprint heart as promised, and was definitely faux-leather which is why I bought it in the first place. I gave it a few practice swings in the air, and while it makes a great whoosh sound (that can potentially heighten the anticipation of the impact!), it tends to bounce right off and hit once more than something like a sturdier object might (such as a ruler).
I only tried it on myself, hitting my thighs first. I guess I had assumed it would work similar to the imprint paddles that Sportsheets has as well, and was saddened when there was really little to no mark on me in a heart shape (just the harsh red lines!). I then had a friend try the back of my thighs, and was a little disappointed in that there wasn't much to the pain. The whoosh sound made for some excitement, but I felt the strike didn't live up to the hype. It also would annoyingly bounce off the skin, and hit it a few more times in an almost pinch like manner. Non-novice users know that a good direct hit is essential, and something this flimsy of a piece isn't desired.
I do feel that the beginner of kink or even spanking/hitting/caning might actually like this. It gives the hitter confidence in wielding, and works the communication skills between the hitter and receiver. If you have someone not used to being a top this also makes a nice starter, but most experienced bottoms might not find the hit pleasurable enough. All-in-all, I had to give at least three stars since it would build up some confidence in very beginner wielders and perhaps sensitive receivers at a cheap price. I would advise them to "upgrade" once they got better, though.

Experience
Newbies should definitely take a few practice swings before getting an actual target. Use a pillow, or a stuffed toy instead :)

what is better for just starting out, and not very painful to play with?

Quote: what is better for just starting out, and not very painful to play with?In my and my partners expirience it is better to start our with a crop. They are easier to control the amount of pain and area it is meant for. We actually started with the Impressions crop, and are thinking about moving up to a tickler/ flogger combo, to get more of the feel for how your body reacts to being smacked. Also maybe try other things like ticklers, they can be used with te impressions crop to lightly pass over where you were hit to add new sensations. ;)
I hope this helped, and if you need anything let me know and I will do my best to help you. -
Quote: what is better for just starting out, and not very painful to play with?Depends on what you are going for. Floggers tend to be more thuddy depending on several factors like cut, width, material, etc, and crops more stingy. They are very different sensations and I would say a better comparison would be Crops vs Canes, in which Crops would be less evil but still pack a punch. Floggers are generally a bit more work to get down right but its really hard to mess up a Crop, just make sure you hit the meaty parts of their butt and thighs.
Personally for me, I started with floggers because I didn't feel like inflicting a lot of pain, but I feel that both are useful toys in my bag.

We've been toying with it. I think with the right one I'd definitely be a fan.

Thank you for viewing Impressions crop review page!

Thanks for the review!
I've come to the conclusion that the heart imprints are more for show than actual effect.
Good review!
It would have been much cooler if it left a little heart print!
@Mamastoys Thank you for taking the time to read it!
@Sammi I know, it is a shame!
@CuriousKitten It would have been A LOT cooler! I am probably going to suck it up and buy the XOXO fauxleather paddle from Sportsheets
