No buyer's remorse with this one!
I love this leash! The clip is relatively sturdy and easy to use. The leather is just SO soft and nice to touch, and even smells good. There are little tiny bits of rough leather that flake off at first, but that will remedy itself as the leash is used.Published: December 30, 2011
Pros:
Well made
Good hardware
Very soft and supple

Spartacus Leather Leash Review
Appearance:
This product comes loosely rolled up within in a simple plastic casing- the kind that you pop open in order to retrieve its contents. Along with the leash, the plastic holds a piece of heavy paper that describes the leash and gives some background information on the company.
The leash itself is 4 feet long (48 inches, give or take) and just over half an inch wide. One side is smooth leather with a bit of a shine to it, while the other side is more of a napped finish. On one end there is a relatively heavy duty metal swivel clip (silver in color), and on the other end there is a wrist loop that is about 13 inches in circumference. There is silver colored metal hardware puncturing the leather (in places where a loop needs to be held) and a silver number stamp close to the clip end.
Feel:
For a new leather product, this leash is surprisingly soft and supple. When pulled, it does have a bit of give/stretch to it, but not much. As I mentioned before, the leash is smooth and finished on one side and slightly rough (similar to suede) on the other side. Both sides are comfortable to the skin, though, any extensive contact on the napped side may cause irritation or discomfort.
Smell:
This leash, being leather, has that particularly wonderful leather smell that, for me, is reminiscent of summer days, horseback riding and tack shops.
Also worth noting:
-When the leash is brand new, there will be little bits of rough leather that fall off. This is not abnormal with the napped finish, nor is it something to worry about. If you run your hands along the length of the leash a few times, that will knock off all the loose bits faster. If you don't want to do that, the loose bits will eventually come off as you use it. Either way, not a big deal.
-A BIG bonus is that this leash is long enough, it can be used as a sort of whip/tickler/etc. as well, even when it's being worn.
-The product is listed as “Phthalates free”

What else would you use as a leash besides a traditional leash?
-
Trying to spice things up a bit.. What would you use?
-
Hmm aside from just a regular leash you could use a tie either as a slip lead (carefully!) or thread it through the clip on a collar.
A cute chain belt like this could also work:

Be creative! Nearly anything can be hooked to the collar and then use the other end as a loop for the handle, and it can be really fun to improvise with whatever is around -

And if you're not going to be rough with it you could try using a pearl (or faux-pearl) necklace to add a bit of elegance.
