Oh, An Impression WAS Made!
I'm giving this three stars because we enjoyed it so much and I think other people will. Though it was my fault for using it too roughly, it still loses points for breaking on our first try.Published: January 16, 2011

The Impressions Crop was part of a "Fantasy Package" that I had put together for My Mr for Christmas. As a first time user to crops and having used few other bondage accoutrement, I think this was a great start. I think you definitely get more than your money's worth.
This crop is made of a plastic rod with faux leather crop top and wrist/hanging strap. There is a cutout of a heart and a piece of red plastic in the crop top that is supposed to leave a heart-shaped impression on the recipient's skin. However, it did not leave the impression of a heart. Just small round shapes that were not decipherable.
This is fairly well-constructed for being so inexpensive; however, the materials definitely reflect the price and you shouldn't expect this to hold up to particularly heavy usage. In fact, on the first night, ours snapped at the end with the hanging strap. This definitely was not broken before and I completely attribute it to using it a little too roughly. Not that I was hearing any complaints from My Mr; although it was a bit of comedy when I didn't realize it had snapped and had whipped it up for a smack and it flew across my bedroom. We have used it after it broke, but I've simply had to be more gentle with it to avoid hurting My Mr in a way that was not intended.
Don't be fooled by the fact that this is intended for beginners either. How much sting this gives is directly linked to how much effort and force you put behind it. I didn't have to use this very hard to leave red welts on My Mr's skin. If anyone has ever been smacked with a fly swatter, it has the same principle. Since the rod of the crop is plastic, force will bend it a little and so, in some ways, might sting a little more than a crop made with a metal rod.
Before the rod snapped, we did use the hanging strap for tickling and lighter slapping on more sensitive areas such as the nipples. I do wish the faux leather was a little softer for use like this, but this is definitely a "you get what you pay for" scenario.

Experience
We'd used smaller floggers before that really didn't do much. We'd also used household items such as brushes and wooden spoons for paddling. I had no idea the range and the control I could have with using an item like a crop. I foresee more of these in our future as well as other more finely-crafted pieces.
I had no idea how much fun or how intimate it would be to use something like this; nor did I realize just how much My Mr would enjoy this! There was a deeper connection as he trusted me to balance pleasure and pain. The intimacy it brought us after was unfathomable. It was a great sign of trust in our marriage: him trusting me to take care of him and me trusting him to tell me if I went too far. I highly recommend a session like this to anyone who's open to finding different ways to further the intimacy in their sexual relationship.

They are easier to control the amount of pain and area it is meant for. We actually started with the Impressions crop, and are thinking about moving up to a tickler/ flogger combo, to get more of the feel for how your body reacts to being smacked. Also maybe try other things like ticklers, they can be used with te impressions crop to lightly pass over where you were hit to add new sensations. ;)

Floggers tend to be more thuddy depending on several factors like cut, width, material, etc, and crops more stingy. They are very different sensations and I would say a better comparison would be Crops vs Canes, in which Crops would be less evil but still pack a punch. Floggers are generally a bit more work to get down right but its really hard to mess up a Crop, just make sure you hit the meaty parts of their butt and thighs.
Personally for me, I started with floggers because I didn't feel like inflicting a lot of pain, but I feel that both are useful toys in my bag.

It doesn't leave a heart impression? That's really sad. I think that'd be the reason I'd purchase it.
I don't know if I didn't use it at the right angle or what, but I definitely didn't see the heart. And I used it a lot in lots of different spots to see if I could get the heart to show up.

This was a lot of fun and it was disappointing it broke. It's not unusable, but it might as well be given the amount of force My Mr likes me to use.

I have to say the idea of the impression paddles are neat, but I think that with how they're used, it's hard to tell if it ever leaves what's desired besides a lovely welt and stinging feeling. Thanks for the review, I'll look for something sturdier and stick with our impression paddle for now.
