Our Wartenberg Wheel

As a door to exploring another side of sexuality (BDSM), it is a wonderful way to start. Mostly pain free but stimulating none the less. I recommend everyone have one of these in their toy box.

useful review
A Wartenberg wheel, also called a Wartenberg pinwheel or Wartenberg neurowheel, is a medical device for neurological use. It was originally designed by Dr. Robert Wartenberg to test nerve reactions (sensibility) as it rolled systematically across the skin. A Wartenberg wheel is generally made of stainless steel with a handle of approximately seven inches in length. The wheel, which has evenly spaced radiating sharp pins, rotates around as it is rolled across the flesh. Because of hygienic concerns, these devices are hardly used any more. Now you know what it is, now lets show what else it can do. The Wartenberg wheel is also a sex toy, and this where the fun starts.

Wartenberg wheel is a fun little tool; you can run it across the nipples - always a fun one. You can roll it over an arm, this gets mixed responses. You can bounce it on back, points down of course - always a shocker. Roll it across a mans cock; if you wanted his attention, you got it. Sadly, due to the tenderness of a woman's' vagina(or pussy if you prefer), it is not recommended there. But if you really want to make her squirm you could try it softly. If you are looking to push your boundaries this just might be a good place to start.

Now some little facts about it:

Similar in appearance to a pizza cutter, this wheel of prickly little pins is rolled over a person's skin, generating a unique, tingly sensation which many people really respond to. Wartenberg wheels are a popular BDSM toy, proven by its constant presence on the bestsellers list of BDSM retailers. The pins are pointy enough to feel quite stimulating wherever they go but are not sharp enough to puncture the skin unless excessive pressure is used.

All in all, a very useful sex toy
Follow-up commentary
I still like playing with the wheel. It still gives a different sensation as it rolls across the body. When you can't move it away from an area, there are spots that tickle and there are spots that it hits that make goosebumps on the arms and legs. I like the way it feels when it is done for pleasure. I still like it in our toybox.

My neurologist still uses one of these to test nerve responses on the extremities. (Migraine patients are susceptible to strange nervous system responses and unusual reflexes.) He simply uses Cavacide or autoclaves it frequently.

I always want to giggle when he takes it out, but I have some class.

My neurologist breaks his out when I see him for MS related issues. I am glad P'Gell is able to hold her laughter. I, however, am not so classy! Thanks for the review!

    • Writing my review made me wonder -- has anyone had rust issues with the pinwheel sold here?
    • Interesting question. Since it's chrome plaited steel, I would assume it could possibly rust because chrome does oxidize over time.

Can't say that I have had rust issues - it's made of chrome-plated brass from what I've observed. My #1 problem with my wheels (regardless of source) is that you're pretty much on your own to find a suitable sheath - they will poke through many materials, and I've had at least one that poked through something and bent the tines.

That one does not get used in play.

  • Wartenberg Pinwheel: Any On The Way?
    • I'm literally aching to snag one of the Wartenberg Pinwheels link but they're sold out and I'd like to know when they'll be back, or maybe if theres one stray floating about the inventory from the move... I don't like the Fetish Fantasies one, it looks so cheap and less intense (a bad thing for me).

Does any of the warehouse people know if there's anymore of these buggers lying around? I just want 1! :(
    • I'll let the product manager know about this. Thanks for asking.
    • Hello ShadowKitten! The pinwheels are currently on order and we are hoping to have them available by the end of the week, so just hold on and they will be in soon.

  • Wartenberg Pinwheel
    • I'm curious to see if anyone's tried using a sewing tracing wheel as a less-intense alternative, or first step to using a Wartenberg pinwheel?
    • why would you want a less intense toy. The wheel is not all that bad.
    • The Wartenberg pinwheel is only as intense as you want it to be. If you lightly trace it over the skin, it isn't at all prickly, but the harder you press, the more intense it becomes.

  • Finally! The Pinwheel!
    • I was uber excited to see that the Wartenberg pinwheel will soon become available at Eden, but does nayone have any more info about it? Will toys from the Stockroom soon be available here? This totally makes my day!

      Thanks :D
    • I was definitely excited too, cannot wait to get it!
    • I'm super excited too and can't wait to buy one. Finally all of us squeaky wheels got our wish ;)

I think we're only carrying like one or two things from Stockroom.

I asked Maxim, our Product Manager, to hop in here and let us know when these will be in stock and all that jazz.
