Use

This flogger is made for users who are into BDSM or just impact play in general. It has a long structure, and can be used between partners with distance between them or for those up close and personal flogging sessions (with some effort). It can be used for impact play on the back, thighs, breasts, or buttocks but is not recommended for genitals as the tails move in a broader spectrum than targeting one singular area. However, you can lightly brush the tails over the genitals for a teasing effect. This particular flogger is geared toward those looking for a flogger for heavier play.

Because of the size and weight of this flogger, it is best used by more advanced individuals, however, it is still a nice flogger for beginners to have in their collection and work their way up to. Handling this flogger requires some mastery in order to get the tails to behave, and for those users who have a higher pain threshold. This flogger can definitely be used in a bedroom setting or a dungeon setting and would not be considered travel friendly because of its size.

Design / Craftsmanship / Size / Material / Features

Not only does this toy look like it can deliver painful pleasure, it certainly does. This suede-tailed flogger is a well constructed flogger that cannot be considered a 'toy'. This is because the flogger was not designed for light play, and because it has real weight behind it that can certainly bruise the skin if handled by a heavy hand. The flogger is constructed of leather, suede (a softer version of leather), and a wooden dowel rod. It's sturdy construction will hold up to the test of time provided that it is cared for and the leather maintained properly.

The handle is made up of braided leather over a wooden dowel rod (which you cannot see as it is covered completely). The rod beneath the leather is thick and feels solid enough that it will not break in use. The leather is braided over the dowel in a criss-cross (herringbone) pattern and has a shiny finish to it that is not rough in texture. It is a single layer and it is not doubled, but this does not reduce the quality of the handle at all. On the end of the handle, there's a braided wrist strap that can fit over larger hands, but may fall off easier on more petite ones. This wrist strap can also be used to hang your flogger on hooks, which is recommended to keep the tails straight and your flogger in top condition.

The handle itself is long, and allows even the largest hands room to grip it tightly. For females who have above average hands or for males who do as well, holding this flogger shouldn't be problematic. The tails are made up of suede, and this suede is soft and luxurious, but can certainly pack a punch with it's weight and ability to sting if hit with the very ends of the tails. There are 36 tails in all, and the tips are straight cut with all of them being exactly the same length. The suede's nap makes them look rough but they are the opposite, and feel amazing dragged over the skin.

Leather and suede are both highly porous, so if you're using this in the nude with a partner it's safer to say this flogger would be fluid bonded to them. Suede is highly absorbent to all manner of fluids, whether it's sweat, lubricant or other bodily ones. Think of it as dehydrated and thirsty for anything. This particular flogger rates a 7 on the Eden safety scale, and is free of phthalates, but is still porous. This particular flogger sheds, but it doesn't transfer any black dyes onto the skin or other surfaces.

Overall the entire length of the flogger is 35" with the wrist strap. The length of the tails is 21". The length of the handle is 9", and the length of the wrist strap is 5".

The flogger carries a smell when it's first out of the package. Both the handle and the tails smell like leather. Suede always has its own particular scent when dyed any color, and there's no exception here. It has a very strong scent that can carry from even at arms length. People who love the smell of leather will enjoy this particular flogger.

The heft of this flogger feels nice in the hand and it makes it feel sturdier. If you're not used to the heft of such a thing, it will cause your arm to get tired after a while.

Performance

This flogger's performance depends on the amount of force delivered by the giver to the receiver. It can deliver a shocking blow to the flesh or a very light sting if it is wielded properly. Because of the material, it is quite heavy when it comes into contact with the body making this toy best for intermediate users who have experience with floggers. However, beginners can find something to love with this flogger as well, just as long as they expect a learning curve on how to wield it so that it hits the targeted area each time. Depending on how the tails come in contact with your partner's body, you can leave a sting or a thud or a mix of the two. To decide what degree of force is comfortable for you, start by lightly flapping the tails on the skin and gradually build from there as a safety precaution, or have a safe word if it becomes too intense for the receiver.

You can also test the flogger on yourself, such as a thigh or arm to determine the amount of force you're putting behind your flogging. This flogger will definitely leave marks on you if you want it to. A forceful blow will create a thud and a stinging sensation as well as red whelp marks. Continued flogging in the same general area can lead to bruising if the blows are hard enough. If you've been flogging your partner for an extended amount of time, brush the ends of the tails over the sensitive skin to create a new sensation.

When in use, the tails move together, but will cross over one another in a tangled mess if not careful. To fix this, simply shake and separate the tails before using again on your partner.

Care and Maintenance

Leather and suede can be high maintenance if you really want it to last in the long run. Users will need to be prepared to clean their flogger should it come into contact with bodily fluids or lubricants. To clean, there are various ways of doing so, some harder or more complex than the next. These methods are meant to preserve the look and the life of your flogger and keep them in your collection for years to come.

1. Purchase a suede cleaning kit. These kits normally come with a suede brush and suede eraser. The suede brush should have a wire side and a rubbery bristled side. The rubbery side is to help brush away the dirt and debris left by dust, dirt, or any sort of dried on debris that is left behind on your flogger, while the wire side is to brush up the nap and restore it to it's original state and feel. If using this method of cleaning brush in the direction of the grain to avoid tearing or damaging it. Avoid brushing too hard with the wire brush, and use gentle soft strokes to refresh the nap. A suede eraser works by taking the stain off of the suede and normally would show up on the eraser while in use.

2. White vinegar is popular in cleaning suede. Using a vinegar dampened cloth, gently rub it into the suede where the suspecting stains are and allow them to dry. Follow this up with the suede brush.

3. If you're into wax play and happen to get melted wax on your flogger, stick the flogger in your freezer, as the wax will harden quicker and harder than simply allowing it to air dry on your flogger. Break off any excess wax that may be on the surface and use your suede brush to remove any smaller particles that may have been left behind.

4. If your suede retains any smells (and it more than likely will) you can use baking soda to rid the flogger of them. Simply pour baking soda into a Ziploc bag and then set the tails into the bag, applying a rubber band or something to tie the bag so that none of the baking soda makes a mess, and shake the bag and tails to coat them in the soda. Allow them to sit overnight and use a suede brush to brush the soda off the next day. Your flogger should lose whatever smells it might have obtained.

5. Invest in a spray bottle. Spray your flogger down with a light mist (the entire suede portion) and do not soak your suede thoroughly. Sponge off any excess water with a towel or cloth and allow the flogger to air dry. Do not ever attempt to spot clean your suede with water, as this will discolor the suede.

The flogger should not be left out in the sun, because it could fade, crack, or warp the tails. Never use harsh chemicals or soaps on any leather or suede items. Hand soaps or dish soaps will degrade the leather and ruin it. Store your flogger in a cool, dark place such as a closet. Always store your flogger flat when not in use, or hang it from the strap attached to the end. This allows the tails to stay straight and not bunch up or wrinkle and distort. With tender loving care, your flogger can last you a lifetime.

Note: If you decide to travel with this flogger or if you’re packing up your suede to take on a trip, don’t place the suede in plastic bags, or any other form of non-breathable materials as this will cause the suede to sweat. Instead, use a cotton tote, or a pillowcase in which allows it to breathe.

Packaging

This flogger came packaged inside of a clear, shrink-wrap style plastic. It was folded and shipped in a plain, unmarked, brown cardboard box. There weren't any tags, labels, or instructions with this flogger, but use is very straightforward. If you'd like to gift this flogger, I suggest a nice box that will keep the tails all straight and flat instead of bending them into a bag. However, for short term, a gift bag will also suffice in gifting this flogger as long as it is not stored in it for long term.

Personal comments

As a former vegan I wouldn't typically opt in for leather items in everyday life. However, when it comes to sex or bondage, I feel like leather is one of those options where it's needed to overlook my beliefs in order to get a well made item. Yes, there are vinyl options that are just as sturdy (in theory) but I hadn't come across any that stood the test of time and my rough play like leather has. This is a beautiful flogger, and it feels like I've gotten something luxurious and well-made when I used it. I placed a bee rating because you can definitely hear the crack of this thing on the skin outside of a room if the person has a heavy hand.
Follow-up commentary
This is a wonderful flogger that has stood up well to the test of time and use. It's still one of our go-to flogging toys when we want something a little larger in size to the hand-held ones. The suede has a little wear to it, but because we try to take care of things to the best of our ability, this flogger has lasted for a long time now, and we're sure it has quite a few years left in it.
