My husband and I enjoy role play occasionally. Probably more than occasionally, really. One of the ways we like to play is as nurse and patient. I have a few nurse costumes, and we even have a DVD or two of nurses in action, but these scenarios have never included much in the way of BDSM play. Until now, with this medical-themed crop.

The Head Nurse Crop from Ruff Doggie Styles is a nice looking hand crafted piece. It’s 25 1/2" long from tip to tip, and comes in a simple plastic bag. The handle is 7” long and about 3/4" wide, and covered with braided fine-grained red leather that is securely woven and attached.

A wrist strap is attached to the bottom of the handle, near where it attaches to the shaft. The strap is red leather on one side, and what feels like suede on the other, so it’s soft and comfortable on your wrist. The strap opening is 6”, so it’s large enough for most hands to fit through.

The problem with the wrist strap is that it’s attached on the bottom of the handle instead of the top. It’s fine if you just want to keep the crop hanging from your wrist when you aren’t using it, but it’s hard to get adjusted when you also want to grasp the handle, and it doesn’t stay on the wrist well like this.

The main shaft of the crop is about 3/8” wide, and covered with what looks like nylon rope. Underneath is a stiff, but somewhat flexible rod that allows you to whip the small smacking end back and forth with a fair amount of recoil. You don’t have to get a lot of swing behind this to smack and sting the area you’re aiming at.

The slapping piece is a 2 1/2" diameter circle, with white leather on one side and black on the other. The stitching is red on the white side, and black on the other, and seems tight and secure. The white side had a red leather cross stitched on it. It is attached to the crop with black coated wire that doesn’t look like it will come off or come unwrapped easily. This piece has a bit of squish when pressed on both sides, and it feels like there’s a small amount of padding inside. It’s not stiff, but moves back and forth on the end, which gives it quite a bit of bite during use. It makes quite a satisfying sound when it meets flesh.

This crop is easy to care for. The whole piece can be wiped with a wet (but not dripping cloth) if necessary and patted dry. Care should be taken not to snag the shaft. Because of its length, this is best stored hanging from a hook or hanger, and the wrist strap works well for this.

My original plan for this crop was to give my patient a bit of punishment for giving his nurse trouble. When I came out in one of several red and white nurse costumes I have carrying the crop, my husband was pretty excited, although he was eyeing the crop with a bit of trepidation. We started with some foreplay, and then I took a whack at his ass, which made him jump. I didn’t think I used that much force, but with the flexibility in the shaft I hit him harder than I intended. He got a few more whacks from the crop until he’d decided enough was enough.

That was the end of the nurse punishing her patient. My husband took over the crop, and even with him restraining the amount of swing he was using, this really hurt! The more we got into playing and the more he wanted to punish his nurse, the harder this landed from his larger swings and strength behind this until I actually had to plead for mercy. This left my ass quite red for a long period of time, and sore for even longer.

I found the crop to be more effective than the paddle we have, in terms of sting. My husband liked how he didn’t have to swing as hard to effectively cause pain. While I won’t be using this on him any time soon, I suspect my rear will get to know this quite well.
