Snuggle Cuffs

These cuffs are worth it because they're comfortable, affordable, and not as intimidating as a full-on studded leather set. That being said, they're strong enough for everything from casual play to harder, more violent play.
Published: September 26, 2008
Pros:
Very comfortable, strong clasps, double-stitched.
Cons:
Doesn't look as "hardcore" as leather, Velcro closures take more adjustment to get right.

extremely useful review
That's right, I called them snuggle cuffs, and even at the risk of the BDSM police coming to my door and taking away my HARDCORE BDSM membership card, I will still call them snuggle cuffs. It's really the only way to do their comfort justice.

After a week of wearing the Plushy Gear wrist cuffs, I can honestly say they're amazing--like hugs for my wrist. The snugness surprised me--I have very small wrists, and expected to be able to slip right out of these once I'd been fastened in. But let me tell you--it wasn't happening.

I writhed. I wriggled. I pulled, stretched, and pushed. Nothing doing--I could neither get my hand out of the cuff nor break the clasps holding the cuffs together. All that struggle, and the velcro didn't even move. (And I never thought I'd say this, but the velcro is one of my favorite parts--yeah, it seems unprofessional, but it holds really well, and you can adjust it to the perfect size without losing any of its gripping power. It holds M's big ankles just as securely as it holds my small wrists.)

The most secure way to hook these cuffs to themselves is to hook each clasp to the d-ring on the opposite cuff. When hooked like this, M found he could lift me partly off the bed just by pulling on the clasps. The best part is that the cuffs are double-stitched, meaning that even when M and I intentionally tried to break them, nothing started to rip or give.

With any other set of wrist accessory I wear, I've had issues with my wrists getting sweaty and sticky underneath. I'm happy to announce this isn't an issue with these cuffs. I can wear them comfortably all day without getting sticky, and any slight bit of sweat that does develop just absorbs unnoticed into the plush material.

Please note that even when the cuffs aren't attached to each other, the clasp and d-ring click against each other, which is why I gave these one bee--they're not completely silent due to both hardware noise and velcro noise when making adjustments. (It does take time to figure out what the best tightness setting is for you, but I think I've got mine figured now.)

These cuffs do the job they're supposed to do at a fraction of the cost of leather cuffs. (I do miss the leather smell, but it's a small price to pay.) No, the plushy cuffs don't look very hardcore--but I really don't much care, because I think they're great. They're comfortable, they're impossible to escape, and they make clink noises. What more could you ask for?
Experience
As you can probably tell from my review, I like wearing these. I like wearing them a lot. I'm perfectly happy just wearing them around the house unattached, but M experimented with a few different ways to hook me up. Here's what we found:

Tying my legs together and then to the wrist cuffs makes for a nice hogtie. It'll be nicer once we pick up the matching ankle cuffs, but it's still doable even just with the wrist cuffs.

Hooking the clasps to themselves (leaving the d-rings alone) leaves enough space between my wrists that I can still type and clean. I need assistance in the kitchen, and in rolling over in bed (yes, it's embarrassing, but I totally got stuck on my side the other day when we were having sex, and needed help to roll over), but I can do most things by myself. Hooking the clasps to the opposite d-ring (as I said above, this is the strongest attachment we found) means I need help with almost everything.

Me being cuffed gives M a lot more control over sex. We both really enjoyed that aspect of it. As well, I found it easier to get into subspace when I have to put my wrists out for him to put the cuffs on before we have sex.

Pairing these cuffs with a few lengths of rope or chain gives you nearly unlimited opportunities. If you're lucky enough to live in a place where you can drill holes in the wall or if you have furniture with attachment points (we have neither of these things, sadly), you have a whole world of possibilities ahead of you!

And now if you'll excuse me, my snuggle cuffs and I are going to play video games.

Is the plushy stuff fleece-like? Have you or will you wash them in a washing machine?

It feels like a cross between polar fleece and velour. I just checked the box--unfortunately, it doesn't say what it is, or what it's made out of. Not acrylic, though, because if it was, I would be itchy.

I haven't done anything to wash mine yet--I'm thinking that when I do, I'll probably just hand-wash them when I'm washing the rest of my sex toys. However, I found a review of the matching ankle cuffs by the same company up here and Ellie says that she machine washed them and they turned out fine. I don't think I'd put them in the dryer, though--if nothing else, the noise of the hardware rattling around would drive me nuts.

  • Soft yet escapable?
    • My boyfriend doesn't like bondage but he thinks cuffs are ok. Im looking for something soft on him so it doesn't leave a bad impression on him and wont try it again. But at the same time im looking for something challenging for him to get out of. He pins me down easly and i'd like to achaully feel in control for once. Any suggestings?

Get some sturdy leather restaints with chains and locks. If he doesn't like bondage, get a new boyfriend.

This is a great set but easily escapable. I'd suggest something more sturdy if you are looking for something more challenging.

  • Wrist Cuffs vs Ankle Cuffs
    • I am looking into buying a set of cuffs for a friend and while I haven't used these personally, they look good and have good reviews on them. I was wondering if anyone has both the wrist and ankle cuffs and could tell me the difference. I know the width is different by a quarter inch, but is the length different at all? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Nope, but I highly recommend the sportsheets bondage 101 kit.
    • I don't own either of these products, but I looked at the pictures and am pretty sure the ankle cuffs are longer. If you look at the fourth picture for each item (wrist and ankle cuffs) and assume that the metal clip is the same size for each item, the ankle cuffs look longer in comparison to the length of the clip.

I glanced at a couple of reviews but didn't see the length mentioned in them, so I resorted to the rough size comparison.
