Soft and gentle but not very durable

Although I was a little bit disappointed that there were frays in my rope, I am still very happy with it. It is fun to play with and ideal for comfortably tying someone up in a huge number of ways. The fraying at the ends is understandable, and I would have given this product 4 stars if that were the only issue, but since there is fraying in the middle of the braiding of the rope, I have to give it a lower rating.

Use

I'm not very experienced with bondage, so as a beginner, this rope is great for bondage beginners! It's great for those who just want to play around with rope and maybe use it to learn some ties, but it would also be great for those with more experience in rope work. With 35 feet of rope, there is plenty to use for all sorts of harnesses, breast bondage, hogties or whatever you can think of. It's probably too much rope if all you want to do is tie your partner's wrists behind their back, but it would be possible, just excessive, and I hear more often of people complaining about not having enough rope than having too much. It doesn't feel like it would be strong enough for suspension play, and researching a bit told me that it hasn't been tested out for suspension. The rope is really smooth and soft (silk-like, though it is NOT actually made of silk), so it won't scratch or leave serious marks on your skin.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

It seems you get what you pay for because while this rope is very versatile at 35' in length, it isn't very well-made. Mine had several frays in the middle of it where the braiding had started to come undone. It still held together pretty well, but it just didn't look very pretty with a huge chunk of fray in the middle.

The ends of the rope are wrapped in a silvery foil sticker thing to hold the individual pieces making up the braid together. These started peeling away right when I took the rope out of the box, so now the ends have been fraying too.

Aside from that, the rope is very pretty to look at. It's a really pretty purple color, and it also comes in other great colors: red, pink, and black. Despite the frays, it is structurally sound and very strong. It also held up very well to a lot of my struggling without stretching, breaking, or fraying, so I was very impressed with that. Even with a lot of struggling, it didn't mark up my wrists either, so I can appreciate that.

Performance

Even though the ends and a section in the middle were frayed, I went ahead and used the rope. It held together very well. I was surprised that at how smooth it felt against my skin! My boyfriend tied it around me in a simple body harness that I was able to wear comfortably for several hours without it rubbing or getting tighter or anything. It continued to hold up after several (10+) uses involving full body and wrist ties, most of which involved a lot of struggling. I never felt like the rope was going to fall apart or that I had to be gentle with it in my struggles.
    • Comfortable during use

Care and Maintenance

This rope is very easy to store, despite it being so long. I keep it looped up and secured in the middle with a rubber band before stuffing it back into the box that it came in. I also put another rubber band around the middle of the rope the first time I used it so that I wouldn't have to search for the center during every use.

Washing the rope isn't difficult at all. It should be hand washed, but it can also be machine washed if you use a lingerie bag, then left alone to air dry.

Packaging

The packaging is a rectangular box with some images that are the furthest from discreet ever. They include a woman in lingerie in various revealing bondage positions that frustrated me a little bit because in some, she has her wrists or ankles tied up with all 35' of the rope, which seems like overkill to me. The box is labeled as "FETISH Fantasy Series" and describes itself as "Perfect for beginners!" and a "Japanese silk rope." It also mentions that there is a free black mask included. The mask feels kind of flimsy, but I also haven't tried it out. It's smooth and soft. I spent a few minutes searching all through the box once I opened it to make sure that I hadn't missed some ideas for bondage ties, since there are an overwhelming amount of things to possibly do with so much rope, and I wanted some suggestions, but this product doesn't come with any such instruction manual.
    • Not discreet

Personal comments

For the cheap price, you really can't beat this rope. It's not the very best quality out there, but it is fantastic for playing around with, no matter whether you're a novice or an expert, at only $11.99. It's just too versatile and comfortable to pass up for that price.
    • Great value
Follow-up commentary
I still am very much in love with this rope, even despite its frays! It has held up wonderfully and I am very impressed that the fraying didn't get any worse. My only criticism is really due to my own laziness since it can be kind of obnoxious to have to wrap up all 35 feet of the rope every time I'm done playing with it, and that's made a bit more difficult since the rope is so soft and doesn't hold shape very well. All in all, I'm happier with it than I was at first when I found the frays in it.

I'm sorry you didn't like this. Mine is still holding up very well, and has had quite a bit of use. Maybe a fluke in production? I hope you find something that you enjoy more at least

@Kaltir: I still found plenty of enjoyment in it and it worked fine, I was just disappointed that mine happened to not be made very well. I'm glad that yours worked out, though!

@Vaccinum: Was yours also frayed? I'll be sure to look out for your review!

  • "fetish fantasy series japanese silk rope" -- not silk
    • LazyNinja
link manufacturers page states that this rope is actually made out of cotton.

Talk about a misleading/lying branding system. Is Japanese Silk a trademark of theirs that they make out of chinese cotton?

  • 'Silk' bondage rope listed under 'suspension kits'
    • Hey, Eden? I would like to respectfully suggest you remove this from the 'suspension kits' category. This type of rope is *not* safe for suspension. It's not real silk (Pipedream has confirmed it is actually a cotton/polyester blend), so can fray easily, stretch, and is just a poor idea if you don't want to risk dropping your submissive on their head.

I agree. I made sure to put in my review that the rope is not intended for suspension or partail suspension

    • what are they made of
    • This is a question that could easily be answered by reading the product page! If you just scan it really quickly you can see that hey, these silk ropes are made of rope! It also gives you a link explaining the care of the materials, which is this link! A lot of these questions are better left off of the forums! :)

Rope is typically made of hemp, linen, cotton or (as in this case) silk. To say that rope is made of rope is a bit redundant. :D

But yeah, materials are always listed on the product's page, billybobtoy. It'll always be to the left of the product's picture, and it'll link to some basic care instructions. Though if you need more in-depth information, don't hesitate to ask.
