Such a Pretty Color!

This was my first collar, and I honestly can't see myself replacing it in the near future. It's comfortable and colorful, adjustable. It's perfect for the person that wants to experiment with collars, but wants an easy way out in case you're overwhelmed. I would very highly recommend the Speak no Evil Choker. In fact, I'm probably going to collect the rest of the line, too.

Use

Let me start this review by saying that I am NOT into heavy BDSM. I don't do latex or leather, whips or chains, safe words, etc. I like a bit of light spanking, restraint of hands, and constriction of the airway. I don't like being completely unable to breathe, but having to fight for air while being pleasured is something I enjoy from time to time. That being said, I would classify myself as a beginner, and this review comes from that particular standpoint.

The Speak no Evil Choker is very obviously a collar. It's worn around your neck, pulled as tightly as you like. I would venture a guess that the fact that this collar is Velcro would make it a product geared more for beginners. I imagine that more advanced users would probably prefer an actual buckle, something a bit more difficult to get out of; I could be wrong.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The first thing that I thought when I saw the item online was that it's a really pretty shade of blue. Extremely vibrant, completely obnoxious, and definitely not discreet. The pink wasn't any better. The black was definitely less in-your-face, but I absolutely loved the blue. When I pulled the package out of the box, my opinion didn't change.

I also thought that the studs on the front were made out of colored plastic. But they're not. The entire collar is made out of 100% Neoprene, with a Velcro strap. Neoprene is an extremely comfortable material with virtually no odor. It's definitely a material that I can see myself wearing for an extended amount of time. It's flexible and giving enough that it allows a full range of motion, but rigid enough that it still constricts.

Being on the heavier side, I really doubt that when an item is described as "one size fits all" that it will actually fit all. The choker has a nice two-inch strip of Velcro on either side of the band, giving it a lot of extra length. I could see this fitting an extremely wide range of neck-widths. Which also means that it will cater to your preference for how much pressure you want. If you want to wear it as jewelry (not something I would do), make it a little looser and go for it. Do you really want a hard time getting air? Make it tighter. You get exactly what you want, every time, with very little effort.

The one feature I haven't quite decided on is the plastic clip attached to the front. The choker comes with what I guess you can call a leash. It's an adjustable strap with a D ring at either end. Attach one D-ring to the clip on your collar, adjust the length of your leash, and you have the option of clipping the other D ring to another fixture. Probably something stationary, if you happen to have something set up. The leash is convenient (my boyfriend definitely likes it). But the clip itself is a bit unsightly. Like I said, I haven't made up my mind about it.

Performance

I wanted this particular choker because I wanted something a bit more flexible and comfortable than leather. Neoprene definitely works. I also wanted something adjustable so I could have a bit more one day, a bit less the next. I love Velcro. My boyfriend also really likes it because of the leash attached. I could do without, but whatever. It's also something that I can get in and out of easily; that fact definitely eases a part of me that gets a little anxious about being stuck.

Because I consider myself a beginner, I may not be thinking outside of the box. But I honestly can't think of anything to use the choker for, other than its intended purpose. If anyone were to give me ideas, I'll try it out and update it in my two-months-later review.

Care and Maintenance

I'm definitely loving the fact that this particular choker is machine washable. It's a great fabric that holds up well in the washer, and dryer. Just wash with like colors, preferably with detergent that preserves color. Because the blue and the pink are so vibrant, they're likely to fade quickly. Even the black, if not cared for properly, will go grey sooner or later. It doesn't collect lint. It doesn't create little pills that you need to pull off. As for storage, I have it hidden away underneath my socks. It takes up absolutely no space!
