Wheel-O-Fun

My first impression was to be scared of this toy, but I definitely have fallen in love with it. It's a great way to make your partner squirm especially if they're already tied up!

Use

The Wartenberg pinwheel was originally designed by Robert Wartenberg to test nerve reactions, or sensitivity, as it rolled across the skin. The medical field has just about done away with using these because of hygienic concerns.

This pinwheel is best used as a sensory toy to help sensitize the skin. You can even use it across freshly spanked, whipped or flogged skin for an extra sensitive experience. You can also turn it on its side and carefully use it to "scratch", just be extra careful if you do this, it's easy to cut someone this way. The coldness of the metal could be used in sensory play as well and if you like to tease you can flip it over and use the handle to penetrate your partner. Just be sure to clean it afterwards with some toy cleaner, antibacterial soap and water or with toy wipes and dry thoroughly.

The Wartenberg pinwheel is probably best suited for average or advanced users as the tips tend to be on the sharp and pointy side, but anyone can really use this toy as long as caution is exercised.

The design is quite nice actually. I like that it's a little scary looking and really shiny. Scary-looking toys in my opinion make it much more exciting to try them out. Anyway, if you want scary I'll let you in on a little secret of mine: My husband and I own double and triple wheeled Wartenberg wheels! They're lots of fun.

Back to the topic at hand. In my opinion this toy is very well made and pretty darn sturdy being that it's stainless steel. It's cold to the touch and smooth handled aside from the grip grooves. It looks great, all that shiny metal, and maybe a little scary to people who have never seen one before. As far as smell goes, there's a slight metallic smell but you get that from most anything made of metal.

This toy fits quite well in your hand and is easy to manipulate, just be careful if your hands are previously slippery from playing with other toys and lube as this could cause your hand to slip and cut someone.

The dimensions are as follows:

Overall length: Just shy of 7"
Wheel (spikes included): About 1" across
Handle: Just over 5" long
    • Multiple ways to use
    • Well made / sturdy

Performance

This toy worked very well I would say. Before my first experience with this toy I thought it would be painful and not all that enjoyable, but it really sensitized my skin and gave me a pleasurable tingly feeling that I've never in my life experienced. We liked it so much that my husband and I found a place to purchase double and triple wheeled pinwheels. We've been having so much fun incorporating them into our BDSM scenes/play.

Aside from its intended use we did find a few other ways to use it. Try using it on its side for scratching, flipped over to penetrate using the handle and holding the wheel part and using the cold metal as an added sensation for the skin.
    • Easy to put on / use
    • Holds up to use well

Care and Maintenance

The pinwheel is pretty easy to care for. It can be cleaned with toy wipes on the handle end and antibacterial soap and warm water on the wheel end. Make sure to dry it thoroughly.

My particular pinwheel came with its own little plastic/pvc storage pouch, so we usually keep it in that in our play room.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store
Follow-up commentary
This is one toy that never leaves our toy box, in fact it always comes along to the play parties that we attend! I can't get enough of these.

There is no visible wear and tear on the Wartenberg pinwheel upon inspection.

    • Writing my review made me wonder -- has anyone had rust issues with the pinwheel sold here?
    • Interesting question. Since it's chrome plaited steel, I would assume it could possibly rust because chrome does oxidize over time.

Can't say that I have had rust issues - it's made of chrome-plated brass from what I've observed. My #1 problem with my wheels (regardless of source) is that you're pretty much on your own to find a suitable sheath - they will poke through many materials, and I've had at least one that poked through something and bent the tines.

That one does not get used in play.

  • Wartenberg Pinwheel: Any On The Way?
    • I'm literally aching to snag one of the Wartenberg Pinwheels link but they're sold out and I'd like to know when they'll be back, or maybe if theres one stray floating about the inventory from the move... I don't like the Fetish Fantasies one, it looks so cheap and less intense (a bad thing for me).

Does any of the warehouse people know if there's anymore of these buggers lying around? I just want 1! :(
    • I'll let the product manager know about this. Thanks for asking.
    • Hello ShadowKitten! The pinwheels are currently on order and we are hoping to have them available by the end of the week, so just hold on and they will be in soon.

  • Wartenberg Pinwheel
    • I'm curious to see if anyone's tried using a sewing tracing wheel as a less-intense alternative, or first step to using a Wartenberg pinwheel?
    • why would you want a less intense toy. The wheel is not all that bad.
    • The Wartenberg pinwheel is only as intense as you want it to be. If you lightly trace it over the skin, it isn't at all prickly, but the harder you press, the more intense it becomes.

  • Finally! The Pinwheel!
    • I was uber excited to see that the Wartenberg pinwheel will soon become available at Eden, but does nayone have any more info about it? Will toys from the Stockroom soon be available here? This totally makes my day!

      Thanks :D
    • I was definitely excited too, cannot wait to get it!
    • I'm super excited too and can't wait to buy one. Finally all of us squeaky wheels got our wish ;)

I think we're only carrying like one or two things from Stockroom.

I asked Maxim, our Product Manager, to hop in here and let us know when these will be in stock and all that jazz.
