When Material Does Matter

Looking for a slightly more hardcore bondage experience without graduating to chains? Pipedream's FETISH ELITE 20-foot Fantasy Bondage Rope is constructed of 100% pure silicone, securing for a tight hold and yet still allowing a little bit of movement because of its elasticity. However, it pinches the skin, which may not make for the most pleasant first-time BDSM experience, unless you are more experienced and aiming for a bit of discomfort!
Published: December 22, 2011
Pros:
100% silicone, durable, easy to clean, additional products/samples included.
Cons:
Pinches and chafes the skin.

Use

Fetish enthusiasts who are particular about the type of material they use might want to consider this one for their arsenal, particularly if they have a latex/silicone/rubber addiction. Although the packaging describes this product as "perfect for beginners", it's best suited for the more experienced BDSM crowd who are actually turned on by a bit of discomfort. The level of restraint ranges from light to moderate.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The nice thing about this product is that it can be used in wet environments without damaging the material. It's made of 100% hygienic silicone, available in a choice of colors. It's also very smooth, has just a little bit of stretch to it but not enough to make it difficult to work with, and has no sharp seams or edges. There is a considerable amount of drag to it, giving it a rubbery feel, but a bit of cornstarch might reduce that feeling without degrading the material (do not use baby powder) and keep hair and lint from sticking to it. There's a a slight smell to it, however it's nothing offensive.

Twenty feet of rope is provided, which should be enough for most scenarios, including a hog-tie position; however, don't try to suspend anyone with it as it could snap. Otherwise it's extremely durable, won't break or crack, and is easy to clean. The rope itself is very thin, roughly a 1/4 inch diameter, so several wrap-arounds might be necessary for a secure restraint.

The cardboard packing includes a few extra goodies. One is a matching silicone face mask with an adjustable band that comes set to the largest setting. Because the material is stretchy, it will fit most heads, with the exception of very large ones. It's a lightweight mask and molds to the face quite well, allowing little to no light to penetrate. Also included are two 1-ounce sample bottles: one being a water-based "MOIST" lubricant and the other a foaming toy cleaner. Neither of these are paraben free nor are they organic, all-natural, etc... Obviously, the lube is meant to be used in conjunction with other toys or with penetration, but the toy cleaner could be used to clean the rope in the sink after playtime.

Performance

Ouch! That pretty much sums up how this product feels. Now that may be a huge turn on to those that are in to the more sadistic side of BDSM, but for the recreational, casual player who just wants some sensual restraint, this probably isn't the product for them. When tied properly and knotted several times, it was difficult to escape from, if not impossible. It was best just to submit and not risk chafing the ankles or wrists. If it fails to meet one's expectations as a restraint device, it can always be cut up in to smaller pieces and transformed in to some type of a flogger.
    • Chafes
    • Holds up to use well

Experience

Personally, I'd much rather use actual rope made of fibers instead of this stuff. I just find that the audience for this particular material is going to be much more limited. It did serve its purpose, but it didn't leave me craving using it again. I do really like the mask though and the sample products.
Follow-up commentary
This would serve me better as a jump rope. Fetish-oriented or not, I am not a fan of this material for bondage purposes.

Chafing? noooot cool. I think I'm going to stick to regular rope myself.

Nice job! I was SO close to buying this the other day! Instead, I went for the Pipedream's "japanese silk" rope. Guess it's a good thing because I don't think I would like this one so much. The silk rope also came with a mask! Maybe it would be a better choice as it's soo soft and wont pinch. I've heard many doubt the japanese silk claim, but it's a nice rope. Thanks for the review on this one. I liked the idea of chopping it up for a flogger! Creative.

My first thought when I saw 'silicone rope' was 'owie, that would stick and pull!' Looks like I was right! Thanks for the review.

I like the idea of cutting it into a flogger. It's a sanitizable way to flog more than one person! ^_^ (I have issues with leather not being able to be cleaned)

  • Learning knots
    • Was it difficult to learn how to tie all the different knots? I was thinking about getting this but I would be worried I wouldn't know what to do with it. Any suggestions?
    • There are many books, websites and blogs dedicated to explaining how to tie different knots.
    • I have some rope, but don't know any knots. I need to check out some books or maybe there's something on youtube to show me as well.

  • Fetish Fantasy Silicone Rope: My Thoughts
    • I recently purchased this rope, as I was quite curious about it. Since it is relatively new, I have found no real reviews about it. I thought I would share a few thoughts for any potential buyers.

      1) The rope is quite stretchy, as mentioned on the product page. It is also not very soft and it is difficult to tie smaller knots in it. However, the knots tend to stay because the material "grabs" itself.

      2) On that note, it WILL catch and any all body hair in it's path. As I am clean shaven (yep, even my arms), I didn't find this to be a huge deal. It also picks up lint like every other silicone toy. It's not -extremely- sticky, though.

      3) You will want to be extra careful with this as it will quite easily cut off circulation if you are overzealous as you wrap it around wrists and ankles (because it stretches like a stretchy cock ring).

      4) I recommend it more for decorative rope tying than for traditional bondage. It works well for "rope" harnesses, corsets, etc.

I really like it and it will work especially well if you want an "edgier" or more "cyber" appearance for your rope tying fun. If you have more questions, please ask.

Thank you for the information. ^_^ I just started exploring and I hate getting pinched. as for the hair grabing OWIE.
