Always Be Prepared!

There really is not any substitute for this product when you come down to it. Dental Dams/barriers are the only way to prevent STI transmission during oral/genital or oral/anal play. This does the job, but be warned that the taste can be somewhat off-putting. This also can't be used by anyone with a latex allergy. To make things go smoother, try putting just a little lube on the underside and it will stay put better, as well as allow for more sensations.

Pros:
Creates a barrier for oral/genital or oral/anal contact. Prevents the transmission of STIs.
Cons:

extremely useful review
Dental dams are like the neglected sibling of the condom. They're just as important, but don't seem to get enough play. If you're participating in oral/genital or oral/anal play, the dental dam is without a doubt one of the most important tools to keep in your safer sex kit. It is a long piece of latex that you unfold and place over the vulva or anus before you perform oral on them. This protects you from STIs that you might contract through fluids or the skin.

Since it is made of latex, it can only be used once. It's much like a condom in that manner. It's also important that you only use one side of the dental dam. If you have fluids on their respective sides and then turn it around, you are still spreading the fluids. It's also important to note that only one side is flavored. That side should be up! The sugars in the flavor can give the wearer a yeast infection, especially if they are prone them.

There are sometimes problems with the dental dam moving around too much when things get crazy. However, with some experimentation I have found that the best way to combat this is to put a little bit of lube on the underside of the latex. This tends to help it stay in place better and it also provides more sensations. It's a win-win! However, make sure you don't use oil-based lubricants. They reduce the effectiveness and eat away at latex! For an added touch, I thought using a warming or cooling lube was really awesome with the dental dam over it.

This particular kind of dental dam is without a doubt the best I've found. Comparably, it is thin and the mint flavor is better than any other flavor I've had. Beware of cola and banana flavors! The mint flavor helps to cover up the distinct taste of latex, which is something I personally find distracting and not sexy.

Since these can only be used once, a major disadvantage here is the price. However, if you're having casual oral sex with someone whose STI status you don't know it is entirely worth the two dollars. These are incredibly superior to other cheaper stand-bys such as saran wrap and cutting condoms and latex gloves. The saran wrap tends to tear easily and need multiple layers, which takes away a great deal of sensation. The condoms and glove are okay, but the area they cover is much smaller and its easy for fluids to run over them. This dental dam is thin, not likely to break, and covers a very large area.

To dispose of your dental dam, it is best to wrap it in a tissue and throw it away. This is said to help the latex bio-degrade in a landfill.

Remember, as with condoms, the efficacy of the product can vary. When you're actually down there giving oral it's easy to let the dental dam slip a little or have a lot more fluids produced than you might have expected. All of these things may make your dental dam less effective! It's important to follow the directions and make sure you use the dental dam correctly in order to keep you and your partner safe!
Follow-up commentary
Dental dams are so important, and VERY difficult to find in stores. The opportunity to buy them here on Eden Fantasys is something you should not pass up. The flavor on these are agreeable and, most importantly, they will protect you and your partner(s).

Very nice job on your review! Great reminders too, about the importance of practicing safe sex when giving cunnilingus. It really does get overlooked a LOT!

Do you know the exact dimensions on these?

Thanks for the review of this.

As I am latex allergic as well as in a fluid bonded relationship, I certainly don't need and couldn't use them. But, it is good to know that they are being used by those who can.

    • Anybody have any helpful reviews /tips on binders? Anybody have a bad experience with underworks?
    • Well, I have two Underworks binders and I don't like them that much because of the sizing. I'm between a small and a medium so while the medium one doesn't keep me as effectively flat and the small looks great, the small is way too uncomfortable to wear on a regular basis.
    • I have used Underworks and T-kingdom and I like my underworks one much better than the ones from t-kingdom.

  • Are there any latex free dental dams?
    • Latex and I do not get along at all. Does anyone know where I can find dental dams that are latex free? Thanks in advance!

Well, I don't know about dental dams, but I read that Saran wrap can be used in place of a dental dam, I suppose also to cut the costs as well. Only problem I would guess is that it sticks together very easily. That's as close to a specific dental dam that I know of, but there are other options such as cutting off the tip of a condom and then cutting it up the shaft towards where the tip had been, and also using a nonlatex glove by cutting off the fingers and up the side of the palm. Tongue can go into the thumb spot of the glove. I only read about the last two but I think the condom one would be the best bet, and there are non-latex gloves out there for the other. Flavored lube may help out with the taste on the condoms, but I'm not sure if there are flavored non-latex ones. It may also help to look on online for other alternatives as well. I hope this helped some! :D I haven't tried these but I have read about them, again online is a good source for other options and as double checks for these as well to. These might not be specific dental dams, but they probably are things that you have around your house or apartment.

Also, it would be best to use non lubricated condoms for a substitute to the dental dam.

  • How do you use it?
    • Do you just use it like a condom for oral purposes by putting it over the body parts you want it to cover, like a sheet? I've read the only review on it, but want to know more. Thank you.
    • Yes, you've got it :) You place the dam on the area you intend to lick, etc., and it acts as a barrier. I recommend putting a little lube at least on the side that is touching the receiver, so it will more easily stick where it's placed.
    • Interesting..
