Out Out Damn Spot
I wish I could fix the problems this dildo has... make the base wider, make it easier to clean, make it harder to twist while inside, but sadly, I can’t. Still, for the price, it’s not so bad. I’m just not sure I’d do it again, if I had to.Published: August 4, 2008
Pros:
Firm yet yielding, nicely curved, stimulating texture.
Cons:
Difficult to clean, spins around while inside you.
Tantus' Throb is a good dildo for the price. I enjoy the Throb in theory, as it’s pretty much got everything going for it when I compare it to my dildo standards, but it’s also a little annoying to use.
My Throb is black and veiny, it’s kinda hot to look at. Tantus describes the veining as being a bit fantastical, and I agree. It’s veiny in spades, and the head it has is rounded and provides just enough fatness to be felt. When you touch it, you notice right away that there’s nothing ‘smooth’ about it, it’s got texture everywhere. If there aren’t veins, there’s a sort of... velvety quality to it, a very small matte texture, a little like soft extra fine grain (does that even make sense?). The texture is very stimulating during thrusting, without being too uncomfortable.
Give the Throb a squeeze and it’ll give a little, but not much. Wobble the thing, and it’ll wibble. Insert it and squeeze, and it’ll give a little and then resist. It wants to keep its shape, which is a good thing if you ask me... this means that its shape is still useful even when in use, because it doesn’t flatten out. Since the g-spot curve keeps its curviness, it’ll continue to reach upwards and stroke as long as you do.
The flared base isn’t very wide, so it’s not as easy to grip while thrusting. Also, because it’s not so wide, it tends to get lube on it far easier than I’d like. With lube on your hands, it slips like crazy. Without lube on your hands, it slips almost as bad. I’m not sure if it’s a product of the texture or not, but this dildo tends to twist very very badly, no matter what I try and do. This makes it more frustrating to use for g-spot stimulation, and occasionally uncomfortable as it’ll sometimes rotate 180 degrees without my noticing until it hits a bad spot!
Another annoying detail, it’s difficult to clean. This alone makes it a hard sell for me. If I had to, I’d probably not buy it again based entirely off of this fact alone.
Remember the delightful texture, the delicate grain? It’s all a trap for lube and body fluids. Toy cleaner and soap doesn’t always get rid of all of it, especially in the fantastic valleys between the deep and plentiful veins. Boiling sometimes doesn’t even get rid of all of it. The only thing I’ve discovered that could take away all dried body fluids, is soap and scrub brush. I have to use a nail brush to clean this dildo. NOT convenient, at all.

Best type of dildo
-
What is the best type of dildo to give to a woman who has never used a dildo before?
-
Hmm... I would guess something close to a size she's used to (medium sized if you're unsure on that), with a nice curve, easy to clean, perhaps some texture. The Throb would be a great choice.
-
I think it depends on a couple of things:
--what she wants to do with a dildo (e.g., g-spot vs. thrusting) ... what her hopes and dreams are sexually (cue violin music)
--what she likes and doesn't about material/texture, and I'd guess that lots of people don't know for sure, but they do have an idea
--what your relationship is to her
--how she feels about penises (also, if she has a partner, how they feel about these things. Nothing worse than a sex toy you feel like you can only use behind someone's back because their jealous of your dildo.
So, for example, I like my penises to come attached to human bodies, with the whole, y'know, alive thing going on there. That means that I don't particularly like penis-y looking dildos. I'd rather have something like one of the following:
1. Ella, who is stunningly beautiful but intended to excel at one thing, though she can also thrust from the other end.
2. Something glass that shows off a range of what glass can do, so like texture on one part but not another; maybe 2 different sized ends. Maybe something like the Silenzio? Or one of those double-ended ones that have different stuff going on at each end.
--something silicone that seemed just ideal for me and was aiming for a perfect shape to pleasure me but wasn't creating (additional) insecurities in my partner. Like .. God I have been sounding like a broken-record ad for these dildos, but the Tantus O2 Flurry, Cush, or revolution. Revolution is maybe big for a new user; Cush might be too, but lots of people love it. Flurry is more slender.

Thank you for viewing Throb – strap-on dildo review page!

Oh, Oops.
Forgot the cardinal silicone details (damn): no silicone lubricant, you can use toy cleaner or hand wash it, boil it or stick it in the dish washer.
A dildo you need to clean with a scrub brush...no, doesn't sound pleasant at all. Good review!
I wonder if the dishwasher would clean this one, for those people who have such appliances... nice review. It sure is nice to look at, too bad performance doesn't match.
It's 100% silicone but still hard to clean? Weird...
I've never had much trouble cleaning my veinous silicone toys, but I don't have the Throb to compare directly. Too bad it didn't work out better for you, it has always been one that caught my eye. Thanks for the great review.
Thank you everyone, for your comments. :D Cock Wrangler, I haven't tried a dishwasher yet, but I bet it'd be the least labor intensive way to get this dildo clean. Jimbo Jones, I think the problem with the Throb isn't really veins (although they do complicate things sometimes), it's the fine grainy texture it has, over all.
Hmm, I also own Throb and haven't found it particularly hard to clean.
I love it veiny quality....
how does this one feel comparing to tantus curve?
Thanks for the review!
I'm so sad cleaning is this difficult, the toy itself looks fantastic.
thanks for the review
