Jack rabbit harness - harness and dildo set discontinued by Cal Exotics - review by SelectZen

-Packaging-

I didn’t know what to expect from the “Jack Rabbit Harness” from Cal Exotics as prior to this my experience with harness play has been limited to dildos rather than vibrators/rabbits. It arrives in somewhat trashy packaging with two overly made up women leaning in to kiss each other on the front. The back shows off the product as well as some specifications. Once out of the package the set contains one jack rabbit vibrator and an adjustable waist harness.

***Rabbit***

-Specifications-

Once out of the box the toy measures in at 6 ½ inches total with around 4 ½ insertable inches. It has a circumference of 5 inches at its widest. The “ear” portion of the toy measures in at 2 ¾ inches from where it joins the toy. The toy is powered by three double A batteries which are widely available. While it has a flared base it will not be compatible with the majority of o-ring style harness out there as the “ear” portion will not allow it. Aesthetically it looks quite nice. The upper which I expected to be red based on photographs was actually closer to neon pink and the lower section including the ears is a mixture of cloudy white and pink.

-Material/Care-

The rabbit is made largely from jelly composed of poly vinyl chloride. This is one of the lowest grades of sex toy material available in terms of safety and hygiene. It is quite porous and cannot be cleaned effectively. Ideally you should use a condom with each use. Out of the packaging the material has a slightly slick feeling to it, some almost oily residue that leaves a chemical smell on your hands if you hold it. For cleaning you should use warm water and mild antibacterial soap or a specialist toy cleaner. For storage you should keep it in a zip-seal plastic bag as the material is very likely to react with any other toys you might own. It is important to note that you should never store toys with batteries in them as they can leak and damage the toy.

-Use/Functionality-

The rabbit comes with a control unit attached by around 25 inches of wire so moving it around shouldn’t be a problem. The control unit has two wheels that control the two separate functions. In terms of operation it is quite straight forward. The lower and larger of the wheels controls the bead rotation function and the upper and smaller of the wheels controls the vibration unit. The more you turn either wheel the faster or more intense the function becomes. This is a serious plus because it means you are not limited to one or two speed settings and so you can work at your own pace and increase or decrease slightly depending on your desires.

It attaches to the harness by means of its flared base which also has four metal clips that attach to the harness for added stability. I was surprised by the speed at which the rotation function can go when turned up high. The vibrations are about what I expected; they are decent without being too strong. The actual attaching to the harness is quite simple as the harness has a zip portion so you can simply slot the base of the rabbit through once you have fed the control unit and wire through so as not to pinch and damage it. Being a jelly toy you can use silicone or water based lubricant.

***Harness***

-Specifications-

The harness is made from a combination of nylon straps and a leather front. It is designed as a one size fits most. It comes with the standard strap as well as two additional extender straps that can be attached with plastic catches. At its maximum (using the two connecter straps and adjusting the central back strap) that harness can accommodate a waist size up to 48 inches. At its smallest it is a little loose on my partner who is a UK size 8 (US 6) so if you are quite petite you might find this a little loose. While adjusting the back, vertical strap does help tighten it a little there is still a bit too much space.

-Use-

The harness is fairly simple to use. It has plastic fasteners that open easy to put it on. The front portion has a zip so you can open it easily and insert the base and control unit of the rabbit and zip it up. Once in the rabbit attaches by means of 4 metal fasteners which attach to the base of the rabbit providing added stability. While the rabbit can only really be used with this harness, the harness is compatible with any O-ring compatible dildo up to 1 ½ inches. The harness is advertised as being crotchless but the actual portion that is open is quite small (1 Inch wide at its widest and only two inches long). It would be ideal for using a small bullet with the harness. The vertical nylon strap at the back can be a little uncomfortable with long term wear so you might want to consider wearing the harness over clothing.

-Care-

The materials as I mentioned are leather and nylon. Most of the straps do not disconnect from the leather part and so you will have to wash them together. You should hand wash the harness in warm water. If possible try not to submerge the leather portion as water may damage it and could cause the steel fasteners to rust as I have seen with similar fasteners in the past.


-Summary-
While I had high hopes for the Jack Rabbit Harness I was a little disappointed with it. While I know jelly is not an ideal material, the oily chemical residue that coats the toy left my partner and I a little turned off. The functionality of the rabbit is good, it is simple to use and not terribly loud. Aesthetically it is quite pleasing. When combined with the harness it looks quite well on. The harness on its own is a very nice piece of equipment. Its design is totally different to any other harness we own and the black leather looks amazing. The fact that you can use it with other toys makes the set even better value. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to test the water with strap on play but does not want to splash out on a very expensive 100% leather harness and top of the range silicone dildo. If you are very material conscious then you might want to give the toy a miss but there is little I can fault with the harness. The zip open/close feature makes it quite easy to use and versatile. If I were to recommend this set it would be only for the harness.
