Strap Up In Animal Friendly Style

I'm happy I decided upon the Vegan Commando as my first harness for pegging. It turned out to be incredibly comfortable to wear to the point that I hardly noticed it was on once I started using it. The vegan friendly material is a huge bonus. The material is high quality and very soft. The adjustability of the harness means it should fit a range of sizes. I got a bit confused putting it on at first, but advanced users or those less dingy than I likely won't have that problem.

Use

Aslan is a premium leather company that specializes in BDSM goods. They also make items in vegan leather, as in this piece. Vegans that prefer to buy from a totally vegan company should know that the company mainly deals in real leather. Those who don't mind what the company itself does but are looking for an animal friendly harness can rest assured knowing this harness is made from all vegan materials.

The Vegan Commando harness is sturdy and lightweight. It will fit a range of users size-wise. It makes a great first harness, but can also be used by those who are more experienced. It can be used in a variety of ways. Females can use it for pegging in a male/female relationship or for anal or vaginal penetration in a female/female relationship. It can also be used for gender play. Aslan suggests that this can be used as an anal plug harness by both males and females.

Material

As mentioned, this is made of vegan leather. Vegan leather is made of synthetic fibers from polyurethane group. Basically a plastic coating on a base layer. This creates the feeling of leather without having to use animal skin.

Like leather, there are two sides to the material. There is the outer side of the material which is shiny and the inner side which is matte. The outer side is soft but with a texture that makes it feel slightly rough, if that makes any sense. It has that crinkle that leather gets, giving it a very realistic feel. This part of the material is what is seen to the eye and not what touches the skin.

The inside material is matte and fuzzy. It reminds me of those little stickers you get that you put on furniture to prevent it from scratching wood floors. It's not exactly the same as the fuzzy inner side of real leather, but it's pretty close. It's a little scratchy when you rub your hand on it, but feels very comfortable against the skin during use.

The material is not stiff at all, even when you first get it. It bends and forms well against the body. It is about 2mm thick. This provides enough thickness to give comfort but not get in the way. The material really doesn't smell like anything at all. It doesn't have that leather smell, which takes away from the realistic leather appearance. Those that don't like leather smell will appreciate this.

Design / Craftsmanship

The harness has two straps that are worn around the area where the butt and legs meet. These straps are adjustable. They adjust via two D rings which are pulled to tighten. To loosen the straps, you push the material back through the D ring. It functions similar to a bra strap.

The harness is worn at the hip. This is also adjustable via a buckle. There are many notches on the buckle, which I'll get into more in the Sizing section. Each side is adjustable. You can leave one side done and slip into it with only one side undone for ease of use.

The top of the harness has a triangle design on it. It has a large triangle shape of material added for simple aesthetics. On the sides of this, the top two pieces of material that contain the snaps for the O ring are placed. These have stitching on them in a angled rectangular design.

The O ring is held in place via snaps. The top two snaps are adjustable. There are two snaps to choose from so it can be tightened or loosened as needed. The straps that go around the legs and butt come up into the snaps that connect at the bottom. These have only one snap and are not adjustable. This makes four total snaps for the O ring.

The harness comes with a 1 7/8" O ring. You can purchase larger or smaller O rings separately which can be used with this harness. All of the snaps can be undone so that any O ring can be used with it. This makes it compatible with a range of toys, though it will require a separate purchase.

All of the metal is done in nickle plated steel. It is very shiny and lightweight. I'm no metal expert, but it appears to be high quality. The material used also seems to be very high quality. Everything on this seems to be well made. The stitching is done well without anything out of place. I feel like this should hold up well over time, even with regular or rough use.

Size / Fit

This harness should fit up to a maximum hip size of 46". I am 39" at the hip (size 6 with a few size 4's and 8's) and had no problems with the fit of this. It would easily fit sizes smaller and larger than I am.

The total width of the harness is 30". The straps that go at the hip are 1" thick. The straps that go around the backside are 22.5" long. They are .75" thick. There are 12 notches on each side of the harness. Each one is separated by .5".

It sits low on the hips, so when measuring for fit you should measure at the widest part of your hip. It sits lower than my low rise jeans do.

Performance

This was my very first harness and I'll admit that I was very confused by how to get it on at first. I must have spent a good thirty minutes trying to figure it out the first time I put it on. I didn't have the picture in front of me and had forgotten how it was supposed to look, so most of the time I wore this I was wearing it incorrectly. I ended up wearing it more like a G string where the back strings went up my butt instead of around it. Silly me. For the record, it works fine like that. So if you mess up and wear it that way or just find it more comfortable to wear in that fashion, it will still work. Once I got it right, I did notice it seemed to keep the dildo in place much better and was more comfortable to wear. It also held the weight of larger sized dildos better than it did in the G sting position. So keep that in mind.

After I got the hang of how this was actually supposed to go on, it became a much faster process. I'm now able to get this on really quickly, even though I sometimes do get a little confused. I'm a bit dingy and easily confused by straps and such. Since so much of this is adjustable and nearly everything unhooks, you can easily be left with everything apart and just lots of pieces of material all over. I would recommend not unhooking and unsnapping more than one thing at a time to keep the structure in tact to make it easier to see how it's supposed to go on.

It wears really well. It's so comfortable on I barely notice that it's there. After wearing it around the house for about fifteen minutes, it was pretty much like an extension of my body and I didn't notice it any more than I would a pair of underwear or other clothing. Once I got going during sex, I didn't notice it at all.

Putting toys in the harness is very easy. You simply slip them in the O ring and you're done. I haven't had any issues with anything other than very larger toys. When you get to the larger sizes it becomes a little difficult because the harness is pressed up against the body and you're trying to get the larger sized toy through the small space of the harness and body. If you put the toy in first and then put the harness on this isn't an issue. We only had this problem if we were trying to quickly swap things out while the harness was already on.

I haven't had any issues with this holding dildos. I have used it with toys up to 2" in diameter with no troubles at all. It handles the weight well of the larger toys and the harness doesn't seem to bog down with the toy very much. When I was using it in the G string position I noticed that sometimes it would pull away from the body when thrusting which would cause the base of the dildo to tilt slightly and cause some discomfort. This was resolved when I figured out how to put it on correctly. It holds toys in a downward position, which I found was helpful in many different positions. I don't know if this is everyone's preference, but it worked out well for me.

I used this in a variety of positions and didn't have any issues in any position that I tried this in. In every position used, it continued to hold the toys well and remain comfortable to wear.

Here you can see the harness on (the way I wear it now) at a few different angles. It it show here with the O2 Flurry which is 1.5" in diameter.

Care and Maintenance

Aslan includes a care tag along with the harness so you know how to care for it. It reads the same as the care tag for their regular leather as best I can remember.

You should not submerge this in water. To clean it, you should dampen a cloth and rub down the harness. It should immediately be dried, taking special care to get any nooks that may hold water. It should be stored away from direct light.

You can put a clear coat of nail polish on the metal to prolong its life.

It can be stored in the plastic baggie it came in or any other plastic baggie. We just keep ours in a drawer which seems to work fine.

Packaging

All that this comes in is a plain plastic baggie. I do wish it came with more storage like a material pouch or something. It comes with care instructions, as seen above.

Personal comments

While it's a little confusing at first, I think this harness is worth the trouble. It's very comfortable to wear and works very well so long as you have it on correctly (and even works pretty well if you don't). It's especially nice to have an animal friendly option available. I'm a vegetarian myself, so I always appreciate having the non-leather alternative when possible. This worked out well as a first harness for us and I think it would make a good first harness for others. It's not as expensive as some of the fancier Aslan pieces but is just as high quality as all my other Aslan goods. I don't have a ton of things to compare it to, but overall I think this is a good buy for either a beginner or advanced user.

Experience

We got this as our first harness for pegging. It was used with the O2 Flurry, Silk Medium, Acute, Bandit, and a 2" dildo of unknown origin that I got a long time ago (before Eden and keeping track of what things were). We purchased some O rings to make it work with the various sizes of dildos listed there since the size included wouldn't have worked with all of those. This held up well with all of the various sizes.

Despite the fact that I get a bit confused when I put this on sometimes, I really like this harness. I'm glad I picked it out as my first one. I feel like the material and craftsmanship are high quality and that this will last us a long time. The comfort was incredible. I wasn't sure what to expect with my first harness and was blown away with how little I noticed wearing it. It doesn't get in the way of the experience at all. I'm also happy with how well it works even with the larger sized dildos that we put in it.
