If you have tried harness play with a beginner harness and are looking to upgrade to something that is well made and will last, the Jolly Rider is a great choice. It's pretty, sturdy and very adjustable. The leather is soft and comfortable. Go ahead, go for it!

Use

This is one of those products that is so much better in person than in the product images. The flat, boring pictures of this harness simply don't do it justice. When I opened the box and felt the soft leather, I was very impressed.

Obviously, the main use of this harness is to allow people without a penis to perform acts that usually require one. It can be used with a dildo for penetrative actions, either vaginal or anal. It could also come in handy for anyone who wants to put a dildo in it and have their partner simulate a blow job.

It is highly adjustable, so it will work for a wide range of users. I don't consider the style particularly feminine or masculine, so it will work for anyone. I'd say it is very beginner friendly, as it is not hard to figure out how to wear and use it.

Material

The Jolly Rider is made of leather and metal. All straps and structural pieces are made of leather, and all rivets, buckles and hardware are made of metal. There are no other materials involved in this harness.

The leather is soft and supple, with a nice amount of softness to it. It is firm enough to be stable, but soft enough to be comfortable and not dig into your skin. The front of the leather is finished and smooth, with only the small amount of texture that you would expect from leather. The back of the leather has more texture, and has the rough matte surface that is usual for leather. Even though it is rougher than the front, the back is still soft against your skin. As the back of the leather is unfinished, and just because of the nature of leather itself, it isn't exactly waterproof. I have had no trouble with wiping it off if a bit of lube gets on it, but I wouldn't suggest a dunk in water and washing with soap. I'd say it's best to spot clean the Jolly Rider.

It has the smell that you might expect from leather, which some will enjoy and some will not. I personally like the new leather smell, so it's a plus personally.

The leather is thick enough to be substantial. It certainly seems more than thick enough to stand the test of time. I don't worry about it being thin and breaking from use. The red coloring is a lighter cherry red, with more orange tones than blue tones. I like the color, and feel like it will work with a lot of skin tones.

The metal is silver in color. I'm not sure of the composition exactly, because it isn't specified, but it has held up to washing and storage with no flaking or discoloration. The stitching is red as well, to match.

Design / Craftsmanship

After having a couple of nylon webbing harnesses with plastic buckles, the Jolly rider with its leather and metal was a nice upgrade. The difference in quality is vast.

The front panel is roughly triangular, with each side bowed inward a bit. Each point is squared off and has straps attached with two metal rivets. The entire panel measures 4 3/4 inches from top to bottom. From right to left at the top, the panel is 7 1/4 inches wide. The leather panel narrows to 3 inches in the area where the O-ring is located. Nearing the bottom of the panel, the width is right around 2 inches.

At the center of the front panel, there is a hole and the O-ring which holds a dildo. The O-ring is secured with three straps, each attached to the front panel with metal rivets and attached to the O-ring with metal snaps. If you wish to change the O-ring, or to help you place a dildo, you can unsnap each of the three snaps. The O-ring itself is 2 inches in diameter.

Each of the top two corners, which attach to the waist straps, has two metal rivets. The straps also have two metal rivets. The panel is joined to the strap by way of a metal rectangular connector. It connector is strong and secure; it cannot be bent. The waist straps themselves are 1 inch wide. Each hip area has a sturdy 1 1/2 inch metal buckle. There are 11 holes in the straps to select your fit.

At the bottom corner of the panel, there are also two rivets but they each connect to their own strap. These straps are 3/4 inch wide. Both of those two straps goes between your legs, one strap goes up over each butt cheek and they connect to the waist strap with a D ring set which is attached to a leather loop. The leather loop goes around around the waistband and is secured to itself with a metal rivet. It can slide left to right on the waistband itself to allow for comfortable placement. Each strap goes up through both offset D rings and then back down through one. There are no holes or settings needed, so it allows for fine customization. Your crotch area is left exposed, but I find the lower part of the panel and the beginning of the straps covers my clitoral area.

Size / Fit

The sizing for the Jolly Rider allows for a wide range of users and body types. On the largest set of holes, the waist measures 44 inches, on the smallest set of holes it measures 29 inches. I'd say there where you want it to rest in relation to your hips plays a small role in sizing, but the open design of the harness allows for flexibility with that as well, without too much need to adjust the straps.

The straps that go between your legs and connect to the back of the waistband are 26 1/2 inches long, of course, you do need some of that to loop through the two D rings to secure it. Even though I use the harness of one of the larger waist settings, I had lots of strap left over with the leg straps, so I don't imagine them being a problem for the majority of people in terms or sizing.

Overall, this is a harness that will work and fit for a wide range of people.

Performance

This harness performed well, and was easy to use. Once you get the sizing correct and all the straps adjusted, you can simply unbuckle one side of the waist and step out of it. That way, when you use this harness again, you won't want to fiddle with all of the straps and tinker with the sizing. You can simply buckle one buckle and be good to go.

Toys are held firmly and securely, even heavy ones. I had no issues with that center panel flopping or being pulled down by larger toys. The O-ring is nicely sized to hold a range of toys, but you can certainly switch it out for another O-ring if you want a different size. The three snaps make putting toys in much easier, and you don't have to wiggle and shift larger toys a teensy bit at a time to get them in place.

I found it very comfortable, and clearly designed with the human body in mind. There were no points where I felt pinched or squished. It curved where I curve, and was pleasantly comfortable without being bulky and in the way.
    • Comfortable during use
    • Easy to put on
    • Holds toys very well
Follow-up commentary
I'm still very happy with this harness. If I had it in black, it would be my most used. I like things to match, and the red clashes with some of my favorite dildos, but it a solid, well made harness and a good investment.
