A Beauty to Behold
This is a gorgeous toy that is well worth the investment, whether you're going to use it to get yourself off or display it on your coffee table.Published: January 22, 2009
Pros:
Spirals on shaft, beautiful design
Cons:
Head may be too large for some
OK, I'll admit it. I have gone on the record before as not being a fan of sexy shower fun-time. I am now going to have to take it all back. I took the Phalix' Dichroic Spiral into the shower with me, along with some silicone-based lube, and fell in love with sexy shower fun-time forever (picture a Hallelujah-Chorus-from Handel's-Messiah moment). I'm a convert.
Before I get into that, however, let me describe this toy. This dildo is beautiful. It's made of clear Pyrex glass with two strands of multicolored shimmery color wrapped around the shaft. The shaft itself curves gently from a smallish base with the Phallix logo on the underside up to the semi-realistic head. It will stand on its own, but be careful, because the base is small and the head is heavy. I feel like if I look at mine the wrong way it'll tip over. Mine is 1” in diameter, but the wrapped bands add some girth (the Dichroic Spiral also comes in a 1 1/2” diameter version). I actually really like just holding it and looking at the slightly metallic shimmery bands, it's that pretty.
Another standout feature of this toy, like all other glass toys, is that it's great for temperature play. It can be heated up or cooled down depending on the desired sensation, although don't go overboard (genitals are sensitive bits). The Dichroic Spiral g-spot shaft was absolutely freezing when I first took it out of its packaging (and held the cold temperature for a while after being inside my apartment) and heated up nicely under warm water from the shower. When I was done playing with it, it was very, very warm, since it had picked up some of my body heat. Pretty awesome.
As for care, glass is pretty low-maintenance: soap and water will do the trick just fine. Glass is not a porous material, so it can be sterilized in boiling water, with a 10% bleach solution, or in the top rack of the dishwasher. The pouch the toy comes with is pretty flimsy, so I recommend getting something with more padding to keep this toy in.

Experience
I took the Dichroic Spiral shaft and a packet of silicone lube (I used Fun Factory Bodyfluid: silicone-based lube is key because it won't wash away in the shower!) down the hall to the bathroom, hiding it from my roommates under my towel. I put the toy in the shower, turned the water on, and let everything warm up. I stepped into the shower, lubed up the Dichroic Spiral, and ran it across my clit. The ridges created by the wrapped bands feel wonderful. For external play on the entire vulva, this toy feels divine.
When it came to insertion, I had a bit of a problem: the head of the dildo is significantly larger in circumference than the shaft itself, and I had to warm myself up quite a bit before I could take it. So it took me a while to get the toy fully inserted, but once I did, the large head is the perfect shape for g-spotting. You can feel each of the ridges along the shaft distinctly. The curve of the shaft wasn't pronounced enough that I could get internal stimulation and clit stimulation at the same time, but alternating was a nice experience. As long as I'm playing with this toy, sign me up for shower play anytime!
This toy performs equally well on dry land. Any lube will do in this situation, and you don't need to use a whole lot of it (since glass doesn't absorb anything). All in all, a stand-out toy.

What does dichroic mean?
-
Sorry that it sounds so newbish... but I hear it on a lot of glass toys and I have no idea what it means.
They sorta just look like they have multiple colors.. but some multi color dildos are not dichroic? *confused* -
It has a specific meaning in Optics, the study of lenses, filters, light and color.
The official definition, that applies to dichroic glass (not dichroic filters, which is related) is The original meaning of dichroic, from the Greek dikhroos, two-coloured, refers to any optical device which can split a beam of light into two beams with differing wavelengths. Such devices include mirrors and filters, usually treated with optical coatings, which are designed to reflect light over a certain range of wavelengths, and transmit light which is outside that range. (Wiki)
I have no idea if this dildo actually does this with light. It would be cool if it did, but it would make the dildo very expensive. It is a very expensive dildo )$157.99, I think) but I don't know what applications using real dichroic glass in a dildo would be.
I could be wrong, but in this context, I think it just means "two colors of glass." -
In that case shouldn't it be "dichromic"?
