A decent tool, but not a jack of all trades

extremely useful review
The Platinum Silicone Tool is a great toy for hand-held anal, or vaginal penetration. Part of Doc Johnson's exciting new all silicone line of toys, it has a tapered head to allow easy insertion, and a solid base for gripping the toy. It is less ideal as a strap-on dildo since the shaft has no curve for prostate, or g-spot, stimulation and the base isn't flat or wide enough to stimulate the wearer.
Pros:
Can be sterilized, tapered head is good for beginners to penetration.
Cons:
Difficult to use in a harness, needs more curve to the shaft.

Use
The Platinum Silicone Tool from Doc Johnson is a harness compatible, all silicone dildo for anal or vaginal play. In many ways it's a great toy. I appreciate that Doc Johnson has finally launched a silicone line, since silicone is such a safe material. I also really like the tapered head of the Tool. It made insertion both anally and vaginally so much smoother than with toys that have over-sized heads and tapered shafts. Indeed, for a beginner playing with anal or vaginal penetration, this toy is top notch. As I'll elaborate on in the performance section, however, the Tool doesn't cut it as a harness dildo, despite being technically o-ring compatible.
Material / Texture
In an exciting new move from Doc Johnson, the Platinum Silicone Tool is made of, you guessed it, platinum silicone! Of the silicone types on the market, the Doc Johnson brand is on the squishier side, and the Tool is quite flexible. The surface is soft to the touch, roughly comparable to fun factory silicone (I'm thinking of the Share) though significantly less firm than that and other brands. I don't mean to suggest that this silicone is flimsy, but merely very pliable.
Another great perk of silicone that this toy exemplified was that it holds heat really nicely. Though the Tool felt a little cold when I first penetrated myself with it, it warmed up within 30 seconds to body temperature, a major improvement.

Design / Shape / Size
Size wise, this is a great toy for beginners since the tapered head widens really smoothly into a medium girth shaft. For those who care about their toys not looking like penises, this is an extremely unrealistic toy and resembles a nail more than a phallus. The toy has been designed with comfort in mind, and the soft silicone really does feel different than firmer blends, though it's not too soft for use anally, which is something I wondered about when I initially got the tool.
Performance
For those looking for a good strap-on dildo, the Tool comes up a little short (despite having a nice long shaft). For starters, it's totally straight shafted, with no curve whatsoever. Though this doesn't immediately discount it from enjoyable p- or g-spot stimulation, it makes doing so within strap-on fucking somewhat difficult. It becomes even more difficult if one is female bodied and interested in being stimulated as one fucks, a situation I was in.
The specific problem was that I couldn't find a way to wear this dick and have my own bits stimulated without it pointing down so dramatically that hitting my partner's prostate was near impossible. Turns out that biological penises usually don't point down for good, pleasurable reasons, and the Tool failed to measure up.
Another problem with using this toy for harness play was that, though it is o-ring compatible in the sense that there is a base around which you can place a ring, it's not ideal. There are two spots for an o-ring, at the very base or about an inch up. At the very base, the remaining flare is flimsy enough that any o-ring would slip off as soon as you got going. An inch up, it stays far more sturdily, but that was a pretty hefty piece of the dick to have pushing into my pubic bone while I was fucking. I got sore, even with a padding piece from my harness.
Yet, despite not working as a harness dildo, the Tool is great as a penetrative toy. For all the reasons I've listed in other areas of this review, it provides a really great experience for those beginning to experiment with penetration, or even for the seasoned bottom. It's simply better used, by virtue of its design, as a hand-held toy.

Care and Maintenance
As an all silicone toy, you can use soap and water to clean this or stick it in boiling water for 10 seconds to sterilize. You should use only water based lubes, as silicone based lubes will make the surface of this toy gummy, and no one wants that.

I love most Doc Johnson products and this doesn't look like the exception. Different color choice, though. Good review.
I have one that looks almost exactly like this, but not silicone. This is going on the wishlist for sure.
Good review!
Very nice review, thanks!
Yeah, Mistress Kay and Sammi, this is identical to another Doc Johnson's toy (called the Smooth Tool) except that the former version is made of TPR (a silicone composite) while this one is made of medical grade silicone. Woohoo safe materials!
Thank you, Newme!
