A feel-don't for beginners

When it comes to strapless strap-ons, the Feeldoe is one of the most popular and trusted items. Unfortunately, the Feeldoe can be difficult for beginners and those with weaker kegel muscles to use. It was fun to try, but it is important to be patient during the initial uses and be aware of possible limits with using this toy.

Use

The Feeldoe Violet is a toy created as a "strapless strap-on" for the pleasure of penetrative sex without the hassle of a harness. This toy is great for internal stimulation, whether you are the giver or receiver, as each partner will be penetrated by his or her respective end of the toy. While there is a series of ridges in the middle of the Feeldoe designed for clitoral stimulation, I did not feel them during either role and ended up needing to use my fingers or a bullet to compensate. There is a vibrating bullet that inserts into a hole at the crook of the Feeldoe, and the vibrations can be felt by either partner, but they are much weaker on the thrusting end of the toy. The bullet, which is difficult to remove and replace, does add extra weight to an already heavy toy, so we ended up removing the bullet since it didn't add much to the experience for either of us.

Feeldoe

From personal experience, I can say that this toy is not one for beginners. It takes a fair amount of concentration, muscle, and control to keep the toy in place in certain positions and is best for advanced users. It is also important, especially during the first few uses, to have plenty of time and patience to find the position that works best for you.

Material / Texture

The Feeldoe is made of silicone, with a safety rating of a 10 on the EF scale. This is one of the safest materials because it is smooth, durable, non-porous, and easy to clean. There is no apparent taste to the Feeldoe and only a faint "rubber" scent shortly after receiving the package. The smell has since disappeared. The Feeldoe is smooth to the touch, though the silicone has a little bit of a grip to it when sliding against skin. This grip can be exciting during use, but may be uncomfortable for others, so I recommend lube if that is a concern for you. It is surprisingly firm for being a silicone toy, though it does have the give that is typical of the material.

Design / Shape / Size

The design of the Feeldoe is not made for beginners. The toy is shaped somewhat like an L, with two unique ends. One end (the thruster) is shaped like a typical dildo, and my partner and I found it to be pleasurable as such. With a 6 1/2 inch length, this end is curved just enough to hit my g-spot every time. The other end (the bulb) is designed to fit snugly into one of the partners. The idea is that if this bulb fits snugly, you are able to thrust as if you are wearing a harness, but without the extra hassle and straps. The bulb has a shape designed to allow your muscles to hold it in place. I found it to be hard to insert (lube would have been a good idea for insertion, but it would have encouraged slipping) and nearly impossible use in most positions. The shape and design did not work well with my body type or with the combination of my body and my partner's body. I believe this is a personal issue with the design (one that kegel exercises, experimentation, and practice might improve), but one that other beginners may also have.

Performance

As I said, this toy was not a good choice as a beginner. My partner and I tried several positions and only found one that even remotely worked for us. I found that whenever I wore the Feeldoe the weight of the toy and my lack of kegel strength allowed the bulb to slip out (which was surprisingly painful). I had read that many people had compatibility issues between different sized partners, and this may have contributed to my problems with the toy. My partner and I are not the same height nor size, so we found it difficult to line everything up and stay in a position to keep the Feeldoe in place.

Care and Maintenance

Because the Feeldoe is made of silicone, maintenance for this toy is a breeze. The Feeldoe can be cleaned by boiling the toy for three minutes or tossing it in the top rack of the dishwasher. Of course, disinfecting wipes or warm water and soap can be used for a quick clean, but are not as thorough as the other options. While the Feeldoe's main component is waterproof, you should remove the bullet before using water on the toy. This is one of the easiest toys to clean and store (as long as you have a large enough storage space!). It is important to remember that only water-based lubes should be used with silicone toys to prevent damage to the material.

Packaging

The Feeldoe comes in clear packaging that I needed scissors to open. It is definitely not discreet, so be sure to open it when you have some privacy. Because I cut the package open, I was not able to reuse it for storage, however, that may not be the case for everyone. There were basic instructions for use, but we also tried to find tips online.

Personal comments

I do not think I can stress enough that this toy is not for beginners or those with weak kegels. While I am still in love with the idea of the Feeldoe (I love the design, the color, the concept), I have yet to have a satisfactory experience with it. We generally end up giving up and swapping to one of our favored harness/dildo combinations. I do think the Feeldoe may be great for other people, and hopefully one day I will be able to love it just as much.

What are the dimensions on this? Both on the giving and receiving ends as far as girth? Also length on the dildo end?

The insertable length on the dildo end is about 6-6 1/2 inches. It really depends on you and your partner's body types. The diameter on the dildo end is around 1 1/2 inches, while it is close to 1 3/4 inches on the bulb. Hope that helps!
