Dr. Philgood - realistic dildo discontinued by Cal Exotics - review by Breas

Dr, Philgood arrived in a large rectangular box. The front of the packaging states the product name, company name, a photo of the dildo, and a photo of Phil Varone (the person who the dildo was molded after). The back of the packaging has a photo of the dildo and states a few product features, a brief description of who Phil Varone is, and states the company website. The packaging is a bit larger than the actual product but I consider it good for storing the dildo when it’s not in use. However, the packaging is not discreet with photos of the realistic dildo on both the front and back.



Inside of the box, the dildo sits within a plastic bag. The dildo has a fairly strong rubber smell when it’s first taken out of the packaging. I didn’t notice any taste to the product. The dildo is realistic looking and made of PVC, which is phthalate free. The dildo has a Prince Albert piercing. The piercing jewellery is nickel free stainless steel. The dildo is flexible and has a suction cup at the base of the toy. Below you can see the dildo from the four different sides.





I’ve taken a few measurements of Dr. Philgood but if you need any other measurements, let me know and I can get them for you.

Shaft circumference: 6-7 iches
Length of entire toy (including suction cup): 9 ½ inches
Insertable length: 6 inches
Length of head: 1 ¼ inches

The circumference of the shaft is around 6 inches but as you get closer to the base, the circumference gets a bit larger. The length of the dildo is good for beginners but I don’t consider the circumference to be beginner-friendly. Also, if you prefer more slender insertable toys, I would not recommend this toy to you either.

The product page mentions that the toy is harness compatible with an O-ring. Sadly, I cannot comment on this because I don’t have a harness to test this out. The circumference between the suction cup and the dildo is approximately 6 ½ inches and the suction cup has a diameter of 2 ¾ inches.



The one thing that I found interesting about the appearance of the toy is the ball sack- it’s gigantic. The packaging calls them “robust balls”. When the dildo is standing upright, the length of the balls (from the base to the top of the balls) is approximately 2 ¾ inches. Even my partner was like, “what’s up with the balls?”

The dildo has a texture that is comparable to a real penis -the head, the veins in the shaft, and the balls. The dildo is an actual cast of Phil Varone’s penis. I’ll be honest; I had no idea who this guy was before reading the packaging to the product. To sum it up, he’s a former drummer for various bands (one being Skid Row), toured with rock stars, was a PlayGirl magazine centrefold, and has appeared on various television shows (one of them being Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew). The material has a lot of drag to it but is easily remedied with water based or silicone based lubricants. The PVC also has a bit of stickiness to it. It doesn’t feel sticky on my skin but if I were to rub it along the couch, it would be covered in cat hair. I’d recommend cleaning the dildo both before and after each use.

So I was a bit worried before I used the dildo. When I had first opened the box to look at Dr. Philgood, I had noticed that one of the balls to the piercing jewellery had fallen off. I had found the ball in the plastic bag and screwed it back onto the jewellery. This worried me because I didn’t want the ball to unscrew while using the toy and then have to fish out the tiny steel ball from inside of me. One nice thing about the piercing jewellery is that the hoop can be taken out of the dildo during play and put back in afterwards if you find that you do not enjoy it.

I decided to try the dildo with the piercing in for the sake of the review. I applied lots of lubricant beforehand because I knew the girth was more than I was used to. When I inserted the dildo, the piercing actually hurt a bit and scraped against the skin (the skin before your bum hole). This did not feel pleasant so what I did was turn the dildo around so the piercing was being inserted at the top area. This felt a bit more comfortable so I’d recommend inserting the dildo this way.

While I do enjoy girthy insertables, the girth of Dr. Philgood was too much for me. I wasn’t able to insert very much of the shaft because it hurt. I’m not used to such a large circumference so I’ll need to work my way up with this toy before I can be satisfied with it. I’ll also try using the toy next time without the piercing because I had this constant worry in my mind that the ball on the jewellery would unscrew while inside of me (which by the way, didn’t).

The dildo can be used in the bath or shower because there is no motor to the toy. They toy can also be used anally because the gigantic balls acts as a flared base (it won’t get sucked into your bum). The suction cup is quite strong and held to the wall very well. I stuck the dildo to the wall and left it there. After about 20 minutes of sitting on the wall, the dildo fell off. If the dildo is used while suctioned to a wall/table/etc, the suction should stick a lot longer to the surface because there is pressure being applied to it.



Since the toy can be fully submerged in water, cleaning is a breeze. To clean the toy you can use soap and water, toy cleaning spray, or wipes. If you plan on sharing the toy, the toy should be covered with a condom every time. After cleaning the toy, the dildo still had a strong rubber scent to it. I'll mention in the follow-up review if the smell goes away with time.

Overall, I think this is a great toy and I would recommend it to those who enjoy/prefer large circumferences in their insertable toys. I’ve never had a toy (or a real penis) that had a piercing before so this was totally a new experience. My experience with the piercing wasn’t really that good because I found it to be painful, not pleasurable. I’m hoping that with time and more play, I’ll start to enjoy it more.

I’ve deducted only one star from the rating because the piercing can potentially unscrew and leave the ball closure inside of you. Other than that, I think it’s a nice, attractive toy for those who can handle the girth.

I still like Dr. Philgood but I rarely use him because he's a bit too large for me. I usually just stick with my more slender, glass toys because I love temperature play. I'd still recommend Philgood if you can handle the girth. He's a great toy but just still too large for me.
