Flopee

The six inch Softee vibrating dildo made for a pretty good experience with my partner. He enjoyed the size of this dildo and the fact that it was very filling to him. I like the selection of sizes available for Softee dildos. Unfortunately Softee smells really weird. It outright reeks right out of the packaging. The wires at the base also caused me some pain when Softee was used with a harness.

Use

Six inch Softee is a realistic vibrating dildo. It features a vein textured shaft and larger head as well as a flared base with balls. Softee is powered by a control attached to the dildo by a wire. The controls offer 7 vibrating functions.

Softee can be used just like a regular dildo. It can be inserted vaginally and is safe to insert anally. It can also be used along with a harness for strap on play. We personally use Softee for anal strap on play. The larger head works well for gripping onto during play, keeping the toy from slipping back out.

This toy is not waterproof and cannot be used in the shower or bath tub.

Material / Texture

The vibrating dildo is made of sil-a-gel material. Sil-a-gel is a semi-porous material, however it is also antibacterial. It's latex-, phthalates- and cadmium-free making it hypoallergenic. It's not as safe of a material as silicone, however it is much safer to use than jelly toys. The dildo feels soft to the touch and somewhat squishy. It has some drag when it is dry, but lube makes it nice and slick. The dildo is covered in semi-realistic veins which give it some texture. These veins can be felt once the toy is inserted and add to the stimulation. I think the texture would be a good choice for those looking for a realistic feel. The texture is a good introduction to textured toys, making it good for beginners.

This toy is floppy and flexible except for where the vibrating components are in the head. I can easily bend the toy in half.

Right out of the packaging Softee has a really bad scent. It's very strong, too. It's like a chemical odor. Leaving the toy out didn't really seem to get rid of the smell. Repeated washing got rid of most of it. I can now smell it when it is within a foot of my face, but it isn't overpowering. I did not notice a taste to it.

Design / Shape / Size

Softee is designed to be a pretty realistic toy. While the color choices are not realistic, the shape is pretty close to that of a real penis. The head is formed larger than the shaft and has a frenulum on the underside. There are several large veins along the shaft, most of them running around the shaft and one running up and down the shaft. The veins work as a texture that can be felt during insertion. The balls just have a light shape to them with no texture.

When this toy is inserted, it will feel almost exactly like a real penis except that this is more flexible. The head is the most difficult part to insert since it is larger. Once that has been inserted, the shaft is much easier to insert. The large head gives you something to grip onto, especially during anal play, to keep the toy from slipping right back out.

Softee measures 6 inches long with 5 1/2 inches of that being insertable. The shaft is approximately 5 inches in circumference and the head is 5 1/4 inches in circumference at its widest point. The base measures about 4 1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide. The cord leading to the controls is 28 inches long.

This toy is in no way discreet. It looks like a penis. Anyone who looks at it will instantly know it is a dildo. The size also makes it a bit more difficult to hide if needed.

I think the 6 inch Softee is better for intermediate users. It's a bit too large for beginners to insert comfortably. I like that this toy comes in 6, 7, and 8 inch lengths as users can go up in size if they want to while still using a toy they are familiar with.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Softee's vibrations are located at the end of the shaft and in the head. While they can be felt throughout the rest of the shaft and slightly through the base, they are concentrated in the end of the toy. All of Softee's body is flexible except for the last 2 1/2 inches or so where the vibrating components are located.

The controls for Softee are very simple. You get a removeable slim white control pad with two buttons and one small red light. Clicking the on/off switch will the toy on to its lowest vibrating function. Using the mode switch will change the vibrating function. Simply press the on/off switch to turn it off. Turning it back on will not start it up at the function you left off at. The controls are pretty easy to get a hang of and use. I didn't have any issue with the controls becoming slippery or me accidentally turning it off during use.

There are 7 functions available for Softee, which are:

- Low constant vibration
- Medium constant vibration
- High constant vibration
- Escalating vibrations from low to medium
- Four high pulses per second
- Eight to ten high pulses per second
- High constant vibration

Doc Johnson advertises this toy as having seven functions when in reality it only has six unique functions. The constant high vibration function is used twice.

We personally prefer the escalating vibrations and the pulses. They're just the most stimulating for us. The constant low vibrations are great for a warm up before using a higher setting. Compared to other vibrators, this toy's vibrations are average.

Softee is not waterproof and should not be used in water. The controls and wire aren't waterproofed so you could end up electrocuting yourself. The dildo is safe to get wet as long as you don't get the base area around the wire wet.

This toy is very quiet. Even on the highest setting, once it's inserted you cannot hear it. When it is not inserted, it makes a very quiet hum. I highly doubt it could be heard through a closed door.

Softee takes 3 AAA batteries, which are not included. I haven't drained batteries in it yet, so I can't really comment on how quickly it drains them. This has been used for about half an hour total with the same rechargeable batteries in it.

Care and Maintenance

Sil-a-gel can be cared for much like any other toy material. Wash it using a toy cleaner or antibacterial soap and warm water. The controls should be removed before cleaning the dildo and care should be taken when cleaning around the wires since this is not waterproof. I would leave the toy sitting out to dry instead of toweling it dry because this material attracts lint and dust pretty easily. Because of this, you'll want to store the toy where it can't get covered in dust or anything or keep it in the box or a Ziploc bag to keep it clean for your next use. I personally store it in a larger Ziploc bag. This toy should be fine to throw in with other toys, but I really would keep it in something to keep it clean.

When I took mine out of the packaging, it had a thin layer of gunk on it that had to be washed off. I definitely recommend washing this before its first use.

Softee is compatible with both silicone and water based lubes. I do recommend using water based lube if using this toy anally because silicone can make it a little too slippery for anal play.

Packaging

Softee comes in a clear plastic clam shell case. The packaging quite a bit taller than the toy itself. It measures 14 x 7 1/2 inches. Since the packaging is resealable, it can be used to store the dildo and controller. This can be used as a gift depending on whether or not you want to give the toy discreetly. The packaging says "Super Cock" on the front in big letters, making it not discreet at all. Softee can also be seen through the packaging.

However, unlike most sex toy packaging, this one is really interesting and fun to look at. The paper insert has all sorts of retro-like designs all over it. The front proudly states this is made in the USA and that the toy is phthalates free. The back shows a diagram of the controls. Underneath this is a short list of the toy's strong points. At the very bottom, in tiny letters, is a statement that this toy is not waterproof and cannot be used in a bath or shower.

Since Softee's controls are easy to understand, the packaging's diagram is sufficient for user instructions. The packaging also clearly states that this takes 3 AAA batteries (not included).

Personal comments

We decided to use this toy for strap on play. My fiance was a bit unsure as to whether or not he'd enjoy a more realistic looking toy but was willing to try it. He found this pretty enjoyable because of the realistic shape. He liked how thick the dildo was because it provided a "full" feeling to him.

My only complaint about Softee is it's softness. It was kind of hard to maneuver this toy for insertion. Since I had it strapped on, my legs got tired really quickly because of me moving all over the place trying to keep this thing steady. It seemed like every time I'd get it inside of him enough to let go, the shaft would curve and force the head back out. Once I finally got the whole thing inside him, it didn't fall out or anything. I wouldn't say this is as soft as a semi-hard penis. It's actually a lot firmer than that. It's just not as firm as vibrating dildos we've tried that are made of silicone.

I noticed that the wires coming out of the base of the dildo hurt me a bit when I had this on. They pushed into my pubic bone and gave me some pain there for a while. I think dipping the area where the wire is inward a bit so that it doesn't stick out would have been better.
Follow-up commentary
Not too long after my initial review, Softee's controls somehow temporarily stopped working. Pressing the mode button turned it off and I was unable to cycle between vibrating patterns. I am not sure what happened to it, but after a few weeks of just leaving it be, the controls worked fine again. I am wondering if maybe some water or lube somehow managed to get into the controls and temporarily broke them. The toy works exactly as it did when I first received it, which is good.

I am increasingly becoming frustrated with the dildo itself. When I am wearing it with a harness, it constantly flops out of my partner. It's difficult to get a slippery, somewhat flaccid dildo inserted again. I'd like this toy more of it had a solid core.

I like the size of Softee, though, and so does my partner. He feels full during penetration and very stimulated by the vibrations. As it is, the toy will not be getting replaced since it does fulfill his needs.
