Get ready for a bumpy ride...

If you love lots - and I mean lots - of heavy texture, this may be the toy of your dreams. But, for the average user, the rock-hard material combined with large nubs and ribs spells nothing but discomfort. If you're prepared to take it on, the Twist offers a lot with its dual ends, but beware: the curve of this toy is very slight, so if you need deep, hard g-spot pressure, look elsewhere.

Pros:
Subtle curve, double heads provide a variety of sensations.
Cons:
Not a real g-spotter, too much texture in all the wrong places.

Use

The Midnight Twist is a beautiful, highly textured double-ended dildo made by SSA Glass. It features two insertable ends, a line of large nubs along the underside, and generous ridges running down the entire shaft.

Though it is marketed as a g-spot toy, I would recommend something with a bit more curve to it for those with hard-to-find g-spots. However, if you are like me and prefer your g-spot stimulation more subtle, the slight curve of the smaller, penis-shaped end is perfect. It is straight enough for comfortable thrusting, and the subtlety of the curve makes it very easy to control how much pressure is applied. The round end is a bit more tricky. I found it rather large for thrusting, but the lack of curve made it impractical as a g-spotter. However, with a little patience and some creative maneuvering it can hit the spot. Though the Twist is intended mostly for internal play, I found the angle on the smaller end was just about perfect for rubbing and teasing my clit. The smallest dab of lube will keep it good and slick as long as you'll need it.

Though it's of fairly average size, the generous texture of this toy makes it a bit much for beginners. It is also of note that thrusting should be done with care, as glass is a very unforgiving material and can leave overzealous users sore or even bruised.

Material / Texture

The Midnight Twist is made of rock-hard, durable Pyrex glass. Pyrex is designed to resist stress caused by temperature changes, and to break into large chunks rather than shatter into dangerous shards like regular glass can. Although all glass toys are extremely unlikely to break during use, even the paranoid can rest easy with this material. (Just remember to throw it away if even the smallest crack appears.)

The texture, unfortunately, was my least favorite thing about this toy. Fans of heavy texture may disagree, but I found the large nubs and deep ribs rather overwhelming. Because the ends are considerably thicker than the shaft, the ridges are barely detectable more than an inch or so inside the vagina, and serve mostly to rake uncomfortably against the lips/entrance. I was frustrated at the placement of the nubs, which seemed counter-intuitive considering the direction of the curve. Why are they at the bottom? I found myself trying to twist the toy slightly during use to avoid irritating the delicate skin there, and just could not get anything positive out of the nubs. Perhaps if they were placed at the top they would've been nice, but unless you're looking to use the curved end backwards, they are nothing but a pain.

If you aren't deterred by intense texture, just remember to get nice and warmed up and use plenty of lube! Even if you've used toys with lots of texture before, remember that glass is a very unforgiving material, and any texture can be rough on delicate skin.

Design / Shape / Size

Let me make this clear: the Midnight Twist is not the toy for those with deep and/or heavy pressure-loving g-spots. If you're looking for a toy exclusively for g-spot stimulation (especially if you haven't found yours yet), try a toy with more curve to it, such as Eden favorite the Bent Graduate.

The Twist is fairly thin, with a shaft just under 1.5 inches in diameter. This helps a lot to keep the heavy texture from becoming painful, and makes thrusting possible despite said texture. The one upside of the texture is that it helps you grip the toy even with lubed-up hands, which combined with the extra length gives you a very nice handle regardless of which end you're using. Though the Twist's curve is minimal, it allows for excellent control of the pressure applied to the g-spot. The larger round end can also be used for g-spot stimulation, though it takes a little work. Both ends are noticeable thicker than the shaft, but nothing unmanageable for the average user.

Performance

As much as I dislike the texture, I will say that I was able to have some fun with the Midnight Twist. I quickly fell in love with the smaller end as a thrusting toy, and was able to achieve some very nice orgasms from it. However, preparing myself for the ridges and bumps required extra foreplay and lube to ensure maximum comfort, and I still found it rather irritating even when highly aroused. I was pleasantly surprised at the versatility of the ends - anyone who isn't afraid of heavy texture is sure to find a good use for this toy.

Care and Maintenance

Glass is my favorite sex toy material, and not just for its smoothness and durability. It's also wonderfully easy to clean - soap and water will do for most folks, and it can be easily sterilized (by throwing it in the dishwasher or wiping it down) with rubbing alcohol. This particular toy requires a bit more work than usual thanks to its generous ridges, which like to trap lube and soap in them. This is however easy to overcome by grabbing the shaft with a washcloth and giving it a few firm twists.

Glass toys are compatible with any lube, and don't need much to stay slick for a long time. Though Pyrex glass is designed to be more durable than regular glass, glass toys of any kind should always be stored in padded bags. Like most glass toys, the Twist comes with its own drawstring bag, faux suede with a satin inner lining. Though the bag is very cute and soft, it leaves something to be desired for safety: it is quite a bit larger than the toy, and has minimal padding (about as much as a thick sweatshirt). This shouldn't present a huge problem if you store your toys safely in a drawer or under the bed, but be careful of dropping it, because this case won't protect it from much.

Follow-up commentary
I've tried to use this toy a few times after submitting my review, but to no avail. This thing is just too extreme for me. No amount of lube or slowness can make the texture feel good.

  • glass or pyrex
    • What's the difference? Pros and cons?
    • Pyrex is just a brand name for tempered glass, or borosilicate glass. It's like using the word "Kleenex" for all facial tissue. Same stuff, same safety rating. :) If you want to see just how safe this material is, check out these videos from Dwtim: link and link and here's a little information from EF's own material safety guide link

It's a really safe and wonderful material. Also, as a side note, I have the Midnight Twist, and it's FANTASTIC! :)
    • Not all glass is created equal. I think most glass toys on EF are pretty decent quality, but some I'm sure aren't as safe as pyrex is. Pyrex is designed to break into chunks instead of shattering. It's also less likely to break in the first place.

  • beginner and new to sex toys
    • I want to know what would be a great beginner dildo for just started out with sex toys.
    • Hey! I think it's great you want to start trying out toys. A few things to consider are whether or not you think you'll like length over girth or girth over length. And then you can move onto the different types of materials.

I, personally, prefer glass or silicone materials as they are non-porous and don't require condoms to keep them bacteria-free. They're a little more expensive, sometimes a lot more expensive but it's really worth it if you think about how many toys you may end up throwing out due to porous materials.

I like non-veined and toys that have veins but aren't overly pronounced with a slim girth. Investing in a good water based lubricant is also a good idea. I like the Sliquid collections.

Everyone is going to suggest different things and it's going to take trial and error before you find something you really like. Out of the dozens of toys I've tried, there are only three or four that I use all of the time. One of those is the Icicles No 17.
