My Nightly Paramour, Ella

Lelo's Ella is a lovely silicone dildo with two different ends. The narrower end is easy to insert and is great for warm-up. Plus, its tapered shape will stimulate the sensitive spot at the entrance to the vagina when thrusted. The curved, flat-headed end provides the best g-spot stimulation of any toy I've tried so far. I keep her in the lovely silk pouch she came in, right next to my bed, for easy nightly access. I can tell she will be a long-time favorite.

Use

Lelo's Ella is a dual-ended dildo made from 100% bodysafe silicone. Its two different ends serve different purposes. The narrower end is great for thrusting vaginally or anally and for warm-up before using the flat-headed end. Its tapered shape provides great stimulation to the sensitive area at the entrance to the vagina when used vaginally. The curved, flat-headed end provides incredible g-spot stimulation. The broad head prevents the toy from feeling "poky" or painful when it is thrusted hard. The rigidity of Lelo's silicone allows the toy to be pressed hard against the g-spot, if hard stimulation is what you need to orgasm, but but you should use caution if using this on a partner or having a partner use it on you because of its rigidity. I would not recommend the g-spot end for anal use. It would be difficult to insert and easily swallowed by a hungry butt. The flat head on the g-spot end can serve as an anchor that will prevent this toy from being swallowed if the narrow end is used for anal play, but you should still keep a grip on the end just in case.

Material / Texture

The surface of this toy is velvety-smooth with very little drag. I prefer to use a drop of lube with this toy to warm things up before my own natural juices kick in, but other users may not need to. The completely unrealistic design of this toy gives me sensations that no other shape could. The silicone used for this toy is very firm. The neck of this toy can be bent just a little, as pictured below, but for the most part, it's very rigid. There is very little give to the material, but the design makes it extremely comfortable for use by beginners despite its rigidity. Ella's surface is seamless and smooth, aside from a small Lelo insignia on the narrow end that I couldn't feel during use.

Design / Shape / Size

Ella's design is absolutely exceptional. I can't think of a single improvement I would make to this toy. It's exceptionally well-designed. Just looking at those sleek curves gets me wet. The dildo is very light and it's easy to hold and manipulate either end during use. It's 7 inches long, with either end being insertable to about 5 inches.

The narrower end has a pointed tip for easy insertion. It swells to a girth of 1 1/4 inches, which feels quite filling, then narrows towards the neck of the toy, which is the only part that is flexible enough to be bent easily. It's all soft curves with some gentle edges thrown in for extra stimulation. The tapering of this toy causes the entrance to the vagina to stretch and then contract with each thrust, which provides amazing stimulation to that sensitive area. Because this end is tapered to be easy to insert, I like to use it for warm-up before using the g-spot end, but I also have play sessions when I just use the tapered end and I find it very satisfying. This end has a small Lelo insignia that isn't noticeable during use, but it's tough to clean.

The g-spot end of this toy is what makes it eligible for a 6-star rating in my humble opinion. The curve of the neck, the broad flat head, and the rigidity of Lelo's silicone give this toy the ability to home in on my g-spot and apply the pressure I need to orgasm fast. This toy is light enough that my arm doesn't get tired while I perform the fast, hard thrusting it takes for me to achieve an O. Though the head is broad and flat, it's oval-shaped and still easy to insert even without warm-up. The flat head prevents it from being painful when thrusting hard, as opposed to toys with more pointed ends, like the Reflections Cool.

Performance

Ella is a wonderful lover. The way those curves slide in and out, the way she's light to hold, the way she knows just how to hit that spot in the way I like. Ella is a toy that never fails me. She's easy to insert, and easy to manipulate while she's inserted. The curve and rigidity are great for finding the g-spot and applying orgasmic pressure. I've never had any trouble or pain navigating her around my pubic bone internally. My partner had some trouble using this toy on me at first, because it is very rigid, but with practice, it can also be great for partner play. Ella is an extremely beginner friendly toy. She's not difficult to use, not intimidating to look at, slim but also filling. The level and variety of stimulation she provides will set a high standard for future toys to match.
    • Comfortable
    • Easy to use
    • Lots of variety in function

Care and Maintenance

Ella is made of silicone, which has a safety rating of 10. That's the highest you can get. Silicone is phthalates-free, latex-free, hypoallergenic, and it can be sterilized by bleaching or boiling so it can be shared between partners without a condom. For using it just on yourself, I would recommend just washing it with soap and water, or a toy cleaner. The Lelo insignia is hard to clean. I use a toothbrush to get it clean, since fluids really seem to want to stay trapped in there. Other than that, this toy washes clean easily. It doesn't retain odors, other than the light silicone odor it has anyways. Since this is silicone, it cannot be used with silicone-based lubes. Stick to water-based lubes for this toy. It's easy to store, especially since it comes with a nice satin pouch for storage. The silicone used for the Ella is absolutely not a lint magnet, unlike many silicone toys. Don't store your Ella touching other silicone toys, or they might melt together into one silicone toy.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store
    • Sterilizable

Packaging

Lelo's packaging really makes me feel like I'm receiving a luxury item. The outside box for the Ella was purple, with LELO on the top in silver. The sides had the name of the toy, a list of features, and some artful sketches of the toy. The bottom had a lifesize image of the toy.

Inside this box was a plain black box with LELO in glossy letters on the top, that opened like a treasure chest to reveal the Ella, presented in a lovely way by a black plastic insert that held her in place and under a clear protective plastic cover. When Ella and her protective plastic holders were removed, in the bottom of the box was a lovely black satin drawstring pouch, a sample of the Lelo Personal Moisturizer, an instruction booklet, and warranty information.

The packaging is excellent for storage. I keep my Ella in the satin pouch inside of the plain black box. The box sits on my nightstand, completely discreet to anyone who doesn't know what "Lelo" makes. Those who do know will probably be impressed rather than judgmental. Lelo is a high-class manufacturer of "pleasure objects," not just "sex toys."

The packaging is absolutely wonderful for gifting. The gift recipient will feel like they're being pampered. The box within a box just adds to the suspense of opening it. The packaging makes the toy seem a lot more expensive than it really is. Since the toy is pictured on the bottom, you might want to wrap this if gifting though.

    • Good for storage
    • Luxurious
    • Very informative

Personal comments

I like to put a comparison in this section. It's hard to find a toy that compares to Ella. She was the toy that gave me my first g-spot orgasm, and many many since then. I have managed to use other toys to achieve a g-spot orgasm since, but Ella holds a special place in my heart as my first and most reliable g-spot toy.

From left to right: the Lelo Ella, the Reflections Cool, the Sasha Grey Signature Swell Wand, and the Dream Massager G.

I tried the Dream Massager G before I tried Ella, and it did not work for me. The weird bulge made it difficult to insert, and the pointed tip wasn't curved enough to hit my g-spot hard and was a bit poky and painful since it's pointed. It is a great vibrator, with great rumbly vibrations, but it just didn't do it for my g-spot. Ella is slimmer, easier to insert, made of safer material, and is not painful for applying hard pressure.

The Reflections Cool is an improvement on the concept of the Dream Massager G's design. It also has a swelling curve, but it's placed to be much easier to insert. The pointed tip and rigidity make it painful to apply hard pressure, but I find that I don't need to apply hard pressure with glass. The biggest reason why I would choose the Ella over the Reflections Cool is that Ella is lighter and doesn't make my arm tired. Ella is more beginner-friendly also, but the Reflections Cool is glass, which has its own advantages.

The Sasha Swell Wand has bulbous ends, which rubs my g-spot is a completely different way than the Ella. It's the toy that's made me feel most likely to squirt (which I have never done so far). It's glass, and rather heavy. It's dual-ended, like Ella, and it has swells and curves that stimulate the vaginal entrance while thrusting, like Ella. I would be hard put to say which toy I like better. They are both great toys for g-spot stimulation, but I find myself reaching for the Ella more, partly because she doesn't make my arm tired and because she's just so sexy.

Experience

This toy is the one that gave rise to my description of myself as "toysexual." The design is so sleek and sexy that I get wet just thinking about putting this lovely thing inside of me, whereas normally with dildos I fantasize about having actual sex while using them to reach orgasm. The Ella is the toy that gave me my first g-spot orgasm. I had tried a few other toys and had no success. Ella's firmness and superior design did for me what no other toy had been able to do. It's so well-designed, and using it taught me so much about the ways in which to please my own body. The tapering of its narrow end taught me just how sensitive the area at the entrance of my vagina is to stimulation as it swelled and narrowed while I thrusted it inside of me. I use Ella more than any other toy I own. She never fails to seduce me, and if I take good care of her, I suspect she'll be "taking care of me" for years to come.

Thanks for the review! I honestly didn't think the Ella would be flexible at all. Good to know.

  • ella vs. others
    • I want to get ella as my first she doesn't seem as menacing as the others made of glass or metal but are those materials better sensation wise?
    • It comes down to personal preference, really. You're not going to know if glass or metal feels better to you until you try.

A couple things to keep in mind, though: glass and metal have absolutely no give, so they tend to feel bigger than silicone toys of the same size. They're also rather heavy in most cases, and so you need to be a bit more careful when you use them. Being too rough can result in internal bruising. They're very slick and smooth, though, unlike silicone which typically has some drag to it.

The Ella is pretty rigid for a silicone toy, but it's very light and easy to use. It's great if you're new to dildos. :)

  • How Does Lelo Ella compare to Gigi?
    • I know that Ella doesn't vibrate, but are there many other differences? I am wondering whether the Ella might be a better shape or size for g-spot stimulation
    • i'm wondering this too. i bought gigi and was disappointed but ella seems even better should I or shouldn't I?

  • Would the Ella work well for a beginner?
    • I'm thinking of getting my bestfriend this for Christmas but she is new to toys. Would this be a good toy to give a newbie? I have not tried it myself so I'm not sure how easy it is to master.
    • I have the similarly shaped Gigi and found nothing but frustration when trying to thrust with it.
    • i think it would be a good option for a beginner.

  • I need help the Ella curve is doing me in.
    • I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have read every review and some twice. I can not figure this girl out. I want to write a review but, how can I write a review on something I do not get. Any ideas would be wonderful. Please help me enjoy this beautiful toy.
    • What do you not get about it? Not every toy works for every woman. Does it hurt to use? Maybe your vagina is too small for it yet or maybe you just need some lube. Do you not feel anything? Again, nothing is for everyone. Try sqeezing the toy by doing kegels when you use it. Some women say that makes things feel better. Or maybe try tilting it up towards your g-spot. That works for me with other toys.

I haven't used it yet. Just recently purchased a white Ella. And I can't wait! We've got the same name! :D
    • If you don't get it you can still write your review from that perspective. I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one who had that experience with it. I have the Ella and she's nice but she's not fireworks for me and that's ok. We all have different experiences with toys and that is what makes these reviews so valuable.

  • Dildo vs. Vibrator
    • I am having a hard time getting used to the idea of a dildo vs. a vibrator! As far as using one goes, how does one decide which is better for oneself? Just wondering and thanks!

What I mean by this I think is, is it easier with one than the other, or maybe does it require a different mind set or even is one better with partner play vs. solo? I don't know, LOL, just curious.
    • When we started with toys it was all about clit vibes for 'effective' reliable orgasms. But as we got into g-spot and a-spot stimulation, dildos have advantages over vibes because pressure is more important than vibes.

Now we almost always have some of both going on. A dildo for internal and a clit vibe for external - although she occasionally likes two vibes.

The only truism I've found is that what she wants/needs is different almost every time. I use to think 'this worked last time - so lets do it again' - but now I think 'we did that last time - what can I do to mix things up'.

That's why we have dozens of toys - both vibes and dildos.

  • Ella for beginners
    • Hey! I was just wondering if Ella would be something an absolute beginner could use, someone who's never gone looking for her g-spot before. She seems awfully tempting, but I wonder if I it's too advanced a toy for me?

Ella is perfect for beginners. I had tried several other G-spot toys before Ella. Ella was the first one that worked for me. Several people have had their first successes with Ella.

  • Ella and Gigi
    • I've had both the Ella and the Gigi sitting in my shopping cart for days now. I was wondering.. should I get them both, or should I maybe just get one to try, then maybe later on get the other if I want?

They both seem so worth it, it's hard to just pick one!

I just bought the Ella and have not tried it yet, but everyone seems to love it. I have had the GiGi for a couple of months and rarely use it, mainly because the control thing is located in the worst possible spot, and I invariably hit it and make the settings change! Argh! I also had no luck with it for g-spot stimulation, and the only times I get it out it is for clit work.

Even though I wasn't crazy about GiGi, it seems to do the job for a lot of people, so it might work for you. In fact, I bought it based on all the wonderful reviews. I've come to the conclusion that there is no one toy that will do the trick for everyone. Everyone is VERY different in their tastes and what they need.
    • I agree that no toy is good for everyone. I can not get a rabbit vibe that actually works for me by stimulating my clit and vag at the same time. Perhaps its operator error.
Anyway, I love the Gigi. I solved the control issue for me anyway by wiping the lube off the control and my fingers...success. The effectiveness of the Gigi is the vibe plus the design. I don't have the Ella, which is not a vibe but I see it as similar to many of the g spot dils available.
