I think it depends on how you use it. If you are holding it directly against your body, it is more of a concern than if you have a pouch in your pants for it. Try using a little dawn soap and water and see if that helps.

I know it would take insane precision to get the hole and tubing to pass through that huge shaft, but I think it would be nice when I pull it out at the stall for it to really come out.

The only real issue I can see is how difficult it would be to bore through it without puncturing the side by screwing up the angle.

It is much much better to just buy an STP. The Peecock company is located in Singapore and so it can be a little costly to order from over there but it is completely silicone, very lifelike, no risk of "messing up" like when you do it yourself and could ruin the product, and the larg-ish funnel at the top prevents spill over which can be an issue with some other designs
