Oh Rainbow Mega Nubby, I wish I loved you!

The Rainbow Mega Nubby is a great choice for texture-lovers looking for a wallet-friendly glass toy. However, if you are new to nubby toys, this might not be the best first choice for you.
Published:
Pros

extremely useful review
I really like extended format, but for some reason it didn't let me choose, so I apologize for the makeshift formatting.

APPEARANCE

The Rainbow Mega Nubby (RMN) is gorgeous. Hands down, it is the most weirdly attractive toy I own...I only own three, but it's like a odd piece of art that you can't help but find pretty. The glass glimmers in even low light, but in normal light it's brilliant, the colors are bright and the little nubs refract the light making it shine even more. I was worried when I first got it that the colors might come off a bit tacky, but they really don't. I found that in real life, when the RMN is not lit up against a bright white background, the colors are much richer, jewel tones, less carnival-like.

PACKAGING

I always like when reviewers go over packaging, but I honestly cannot recall anything special about the Don Wands' packaging job. It was a simple plastic holder and I'm pretty sure it did not have any humans on the packaging, but don't quote me on that! It did come with a sample of Wet! lubricant though, which is nice of them, but I actually have yet to try since I like my Pink Water. Besides that, it was not anything to rave over, so I wouldn't call the packaging "gift friendly"--but at least it wasn't something to rant over ;)

MATERIAL

Some basics of the RMN: the material is pyrex glass, 7.5 inches long, 3.5 inches in circumference. I know that many first-time glass toy owners might think, "What if it breaks!" Honestly, don't worry (too much) about it breaking, pyrex is very resistant to cracking. To be sure though, give it a good once over when you get it and then every so often with use. The RMN also came with a handy blue pillow-like storage satchel, which made me worry even less about it. This storage case was also nice because I wouldn't call the RMN discreet! It's quiet since it doesn't vibrate, but because it's so peculiar looking and is bound to call attention if left out on accident, I wouldn't call it SFW :)

As a material, pyrex glass is a wonderful choice for a toy. It's waterproof, hypoallergenic, phthalates-free, and sanitizing is a breeze: wash it in the sink, boil it, or even put it in the dishwasher (be careful it's secure). It does not retain any odors or taste and is extremely non-porous. Glass is (usually) also great because you need hardly any lube to make it slippery, but if you do want to use lube, it can be water or silicone based. I found with the heavily textured RMN, that I actually required more lube than normal. As far as dimensions go...well, this is always so personal. It is pretty slim with a diameter of 1 1/8 inch, but in spite of its small girth, the bumps made it feel very "filling" to me.

PERFORMANCE

My favorite aspect of both the RMN and glass itself is the temperature variation. When you first use it, the RMN is almost like an ice-cube, rather than wet and freezey though, it's smooth and chilly. It then very quickly heats up, very hot, furnace, blood hot! This makes for a seriously cool sensation. And this is without putting it in warm/cold water--which you can also do! The RMN can be put in the fridge to make it even colder or in warm water to make it warmer--I've found that running it under warm/cold water also does the trick. But even without special tricks, the RMN provides a nice temperature variation.

Another unique feature of the RMN is its bumpiness, it has a ton of texture! I found that I could not thrust with the toy as the bumps became too painful and require too much coordination to make sure they didn't grind against my pelvic bone. I think if the RMN was more curved to fit the body, it would have worked better for me; however, its straightness required maneuvering around to get the right angle. Instead of thrusting, I found that spinning it made for a nice stimulation, but spinning isn't exactly what I like in a toy. If you like thrusting, the texture might be a hindrance for you, depending on your own skill at getting the angle/your anatomy. The bumps are also very nice for rubbing on the external parts of the vulva, especially against your clitoris.

MISC.

Since I'm thrifty, the price is very attractive. Unlike many glass toys you'll find which can run $50-100, the RMN is very affordable. This makes it a perfect option for someone who isn't quite sure if glass is for them, but wants to give it a shot.
Experience
While there are many wonderful aspects to the Rainbow Mega Nubby, I found that the nubbies simply didn't agree with me. Rather than "Oh my god, ahhh," I had a "OH MY GOD. OWW!" This is a 2 star toy in terms of performance for me, as I rarely if ever use it. That said, I can't say I regret buying it. As a novice to toys, the RMN offered me more experience in both material as my first glass toy and texture as my first highly nubby toy.

For people who are texture-fans, this is a great choice for a glass toy and would likely rank around 4-5 stars. It's affordable, beautiful, and offers plenty of texture. If however, like me, you are hesitant about this much texture, I would definitely advise you to consider how hard glass as a material is, the straight design, and the sheer number/size of the nubs. This also depends on whether you like thrusting, just spinning the RMN and slightly thrusting it is great, but I need more movement. I knew when I bought it that I was not a nubby guro, but the price tag was so affordable that I decided even if I wasn't satisfied, it wouldn't hurt my wallet too much.
Follow-up commentary
I'm embarrassed to say I definitely misjudged the Rainbow mega nubby. Since its rather disappointing entry into my life, I have begun to love the RMN. The glass is still amazing as a material (especially the way it goes from chilly to hot within seconds), but I've discovered a new love for its texture--which was initially too much for me as a beginner. Now with more experience under my belt toy-wise, I've found myself using and enjoying the RMN much more. It's definitely a 4/5 for me now.

It's a good point that you make about the colors of a glass toy when taken in front of a white background. Very good review.
