Rock Hard

I had visions of highly polished, smooth, heavy, rigid stone. Not a stunning piece of rock heavily coated in an un-known clear plastic like coating. Whilst its visual beauty cannot be denied, for its price tag it doesn't bring anything else to the party.

Use

The El Olas is a dildo designed for traditional vaginal penetration made of a very unique and non-traditional material. This is one of the small handful of toys available that has been crafted from solid stone. The curvaceous sandstone shaft is coated with a thick, smooth covering that's been shaped to satisfy as both a dildo and as a kegel exerciser. It is also useful for all over body massage.
This is a toy that is suited to being used by a woman alone or with a partner in nearly every setting imaginable. Sadly, for those who love toys for anal play, the El Olas isn't recommended as a back door lover as it doesn't have a flared base. It is, however, fully waterproof and whisper quiet (It is just a dildo after all) making it suitable for use in many varied living situations.

It feels a lot like a glass wand as it has the same hard, rigid, unforgiving surface that glass has. It also lends itself well to temperature play, again its properties are very similar to those of glass. I wouldn't recommend this dildo to those who are new to sex toys, or someone who hasn't already experimented with rigid, unforgiving materials. However if you already know that you enjoy the sensations of glass, then this stone dildo would make a nice addition to your toy box.

Material / Texture

The material is what sets this toy apart from any other. Although stone has been found to be the preferred sex toy material of our pre- historic ancestors, there aren't that many available on the market for the modern sex toy connoisseur.

The El Olas is sculpted out of sandstone and given a thick, smooth, seamless coating of a clear unscented material. It feels somewhat like plastic, and it reminds me a little of polyurethane.

Although it has a very plastic feeling and I do suspect it to be polyurethane, I haven't been able to find any information about exactly what this coating is. I haven't even been able to find a website or any further information about the toy's manufacturer on google either. I must admit that not really knowing what this coating is does leave me with an uneasy feeling.

Through the coating the stone's natural beauty can be easily admired. The quartz and other minerals found within the sandstone come together to form simply stunning swirl like patterns. This is where the rock stands out above glass, as each and every toy is both beautiful and unique. With it standing on the coffee table it reminds me of an over-sized marble chess piece.

For something made out of stone it is a lot lighter than I had expected it to be. From looking at the way the company's logo has been deeply embedded under the clear coating in the base, I think that the shaft has been hollowed out to make it lighter and easier to use.

Design / Shape / Size

This toy stands (on its flat base) at just shy of 6" tall with a maximum girth of 5" at the largest bulge closest to its base. The insertable length of this toy truly would depend on how nimble your fingers are, but 5" of insertable shaft leaves you with enough space to grasp the base during thrusting.

The shaft is sculpted into 4 bulges, or waves (Olas apparently means wave!) that gradually increase in size as they go down the shaft. The end of the shaft flares out slightly, giving you a flat base to stand it on. This base also doubles as an area to hold onto during use. But again, this flair is very minimal and I wouldn't recommend this toy for anal play.

It is easy to hold in the hand, and you can build up some great sensations from the wavy bulges whilst thrusting with this toy. But, just the same as with other rigid, unforgiving materials, do take caution as it is easy to bruise yourself internally if you happen to get a little over eager.

Performance

Just like glass this toy holds temperature quite well. To warm it up or cool it down simply immerse it in a bowl of water of the temperature you desire. Temperature play tip - always test a toy like you would a baby's bottle after heating it by holding it against the inside of your wrist. Just be sure to hold it there for 15 seconds or so to ensure that you have felt the full effect of the heat on your wrist before using it on much more sensitive areas.

This is also a great toy for thrusting due to its over-pronounced curves, each and every one registers when you use it slowly. At a more rapid pace I was unable to truly discern every bump but this didn't take anything away from the experience for me.

It is very comfortable to hold and grip, and certainly easy to use. Just remember to be gentle and not get too overly enthusiastic as you may bruise yourself internally if you get too rough with it.

Whilst its primary design function is to be used as a penetrative dildo it is just amazing as a back massager. When slightly warmed it feels incredibly relaxing to have it rolled over tense back and neck muscles. It is also promising for adding a little something extra to your Kegels.

Care and Maintenance

Good old warm water and dis-infecting soap works wonders for cleaning this toy, but if you prefer to use a toy cleaner you shouldn't have any problems.

As I am unable to identify the plastic like coating and therefore don't know if it is or isn't porous I wouldn't be sharing this toy with others, or at least using a condom to cover it if you wished to do so. Whilst I can't tell you whether it can be fully sterilised I can report that it has survived a whirl in the dishwasher as well as a good rapid boiling without any ill effects.

I have also tried my darndest to see if I could crack, chip or in some other manner damage this toy and can vouch for its robust durability.

Storage is also a very simple manner, either by storing it in its original tin packaging or wherever you see fit to stow it. Due to the un-known of the coating I've chosen to keep it away from other toys that may possibly have a negative impact on the surface.

Packaging

The El Olas arrives in a very elegant square silver tin that is approx 8"x 5" x 2.5" deep. When you slip the lid off inside you will find the El Olas gently snuggled into its own personal silky beanbag like pillow that keeps it safe and sound during transit.

The only adornment on the tin is a 'Diamonds Lovetoys' logo sticker on the lid as well as a smaller similar one on the side of the tin.

Although the tin is quite over-sized for the dildo it does provide perfect storage for the toy, but if you are short on space it could easily fit into your sock drawer. Because of its very discreet, body massager appearance it is a toy that could be left out in plain site without screaming 'Sex Toy' to anyone who may see it.

Personal comments

I have to admit I was really let down when I discovered that this stone toy was stone with a thick, clear, plastic like coating as opposed to highly polished stone. I was looking forward to the heavy, super cold rigid surface that I had imagined would be like polished granite.

I understand that for a sex toy polished marble or granite just might not be practical, but I had hoped that a toy crafted from stone would be at least feel a little different to plain old glass. However a short period of 'blind testing' with the bf demonstrated to me that it felt no different during use than a far cheaper $20 glass wand.

So unless you are out to specifically add a stone toy to your collection I highly recommend you save your cash and go with good old glass as its differences are only cosmetic when it comes down to the end results.
Follow-up commentary
Due to the thick coating on this dildo I must admit it hasn't seen the light of day since I wrote this review. The coating really detracts from it being a stone dildo. I hope in the future to experience sex toys made from rock, but the el olas just isn't the toy for me I'm afraid. There are far cheaper glass toys omn the market that feel almost identical to this and I'd reccomend those over this one anyday.

I'd love to try a stone toy, but they certainly have a high enough price tag.

    Great job on the review

I have La Tranquila. At first I thought it was just ok, but lately I've grown to like it more. I'm not sure why. You're right about the thick layer of varnish that separates the stone from you. I was hoping for a stone to skin experience too.
