Simple ain't always a bad thing...

The Reach is undoubtedly a simple dildo, but has qualities that will win you over. His smoothness, flexibility, and good hygiene (aka can be fully sterilized) give him the initial appeal, and then this Doc will prove himself in action! As with anyone, he has his flaws- a handle that may be difficult to get a good grip on- but you should be able to look past that and see his redeeming qualities. For moderate, comfortable g-spot stimulation, you'll be reaching for The Reach again and again

Use

At face value, Doc Johnson's The Reach from the new Platinum Silicone line, is a very simple dildo. But, look further and you'll find that beyond it's smooth, straight shaft and moderately bulbed head, it has a lot to offer for such a basic dildo.

The Reach is made of firm yet flexible phthalate free platinum silicone, which is able to be fully sanitized. It provides nice g-spot stimulation, and can be thrust pretty hard because of it's soft texture. It is great for partner and solo use, and I was actually able to use it during sex- more details in the performance and experience sections! The design of this dildo is not good for anal use because it lacks a flared base, and the the handle becomes slippery and somewhat hard to maneuver during use. I wouldn't suggest risking it!

It's "just right" size and firmness, along with it's silky smooth texture allow it to be a great beginner toy- while still being extremely satisfying for most seasoned dildo users. It's definitely not for the size queens out there, but most anyone else will find it to be a great basic dildo to add to their collection!

Material / Texture

Perhaps one of the most inviting reasons to try The Reach is because it is made from Platinum Silicone. It is extremely body friendly, since it is hypo-allergenic, phthalate free, and can be easily sanitized. Platinum Silicone is luxuriously smooth, and has a nice balance of firmness and flexibility. One downfall of the material, however, is that it is somewhat of a lint magnet. But, as long as you clean and store it properly, you shouldn't have to worry about it too much. The Reach has no odor or taste to speak of, which is certainly a good thing in my opinion.

Design / Shape / Size

The design of The Reach is extremely simple. Mine is a pretty shade of baby pink with a silver iridescent shimmer all over it. It has a straight shaft which is just slightly bigger at the base, (and I mean SLIGHTLY) and the head flares out a bit to form a small bulb. From end to end, it measures in at 7 inches long, with an insertable length of about 6 inches. It isn't very girthy- the circumference of the shaft is 3.5 inches, and it has a 4.75 inch circumference at it's fullest point on the head. However, despite it's modest size, it certainly has an ability to perform well.

The shaft is very flexible and smooth, allowing for precise angling to reach (pun intended) the g-spot. The head is just as smooth, but a bit firmer, which provides great stimulation. It is not extremely bulbous, so if you require somewhat intense g-spot stimulation to get off, you might not be totally satisfied. The handle is the one feature I can complain about- there really is no handle to speak of, which makes it difficult to get a firm grip on it, especially during solo use.

Performance

The Reach sticks to one task, but does it well. It may not have a multitude of functions, or a fancy design- but it definitely gets the job done. It glides in and out with the perfect level of firmness- so it feels quite a bit like the real thing. The modest head can be thrust and massaged against the g-spot rather hard and fast with no pain due to the amount of give in the material.

The handle does not perform as well is it could, though. Especially when using lube, it can be difficult to get a firm grip on it since the base is so narrow and the texture becomes slippery-smooth when wet. Because of this, it is better suited for partner use, as they can grab and thrust more easily. It still performs very well during solo use, it can just be a bit of a hassle to have to wipe the lube off mid-action.

Thanks to the modest size and graduated head of The Reach, my man and I were able to use it during sex. He simply inserted it as usual, then inserted himself carefully. This provided a wonderful feeling of fullness for me, and tightness for him. Not all will be able to do this, of course, but if you feel comfortable with your ability to, give it a try! It adds a new dynamic to the use of this dildo, and gave me a much bigger appreciation for it!

Care and Maintenance

Because it is made of non-porous platinum silicone, The Reach can be fully sanitized after use. Simply boil it, or put it in the dishwasher if that is your method of choice. But, for basic cleaning, you can simply wash it with mild soap and warm water, or an antibacterial toy cleaner. When drying The Reach, be sure to use a lint-free cloth or paper towel, as it collects lint and hair if given the right circumstances. I simply let it air dry on a paper towel, then blot it and store it in the original packaging. You will definitely want to store this dildo in it's own pouch, or ziploc bag if you do not use the original packaging, otherwise it will attract everything in sight.

Silicone toys can react with silicone lube, so be sure to use a water-based lube or spot-test your dildo before using a lube with silicone in it. I use Liquid Silk, which is water-based but contains a small amount of silicone (dimethicone) in it. There was no reaction to speak of for me, but it is always a good idea to test for a reaction yourself, just to be sure.

Packaging

The packaging for the Reach is certainly nothing special, and meant to be easily displayed on a hook in a sex store rather than used as gift box. Barbie packaging without the hassles is what comes to mind- a simple blister pack nestled inside a rectangular display box. The color scheme is attractive and feminine- pink and lime green as the main colors, with silver and black accents. The front has the words "Platinum Premium Silicone" in a sleek text proclaimed at the top, and "Doc Johnson The Reach" on the bottom. The words Platinum and Doc Johnson can be found all over the package, so if you're wondering if it's discreet the answer is no. The back has a small blurb that boasts what the Reach has to offer- including cleaning and allergy information. Under the main paragraph, the words "Premium platinum silicone toy. Hypoallergenic. Phthalate free." are displayed in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish and Russian with a flag next to each to easily identify the proper language. There is a Phthalate Free Sil Icon and a Made in USA icon on the bottom, along with Doc Johnson's web address. Inside the box was a small pamphlet with pictures of all of the products in the Platinum Silicone line.

I use the packaging for storage simply because it is convenient and not too bulky for my tox box, but if you don't have a lot of space you will want to use a pouch or a ziploc bag instead.

Personal comments

As usual, I've included a few pictures.

Definitely simple. But shiny!

And flexible, too!
    • Shimmery!

Experience

When using this dildo during sex, as I mentioned earlier, my man and I found it was best to use a lot of lube for comfort. I also found that in missionary, it felt most enjoyable when the Reach was underneath my man's dick. This allowed for maximum comfort for me, and we were still able to thrust as hard and fast as usual. I would definitely recommend trying this method if you are able to take a decent amount of girth, because it felt wonderfully tight. I certainly wasn't expecting it to work, but let my man try it out, and I am glad I did!
