Midnight twist - sex toy by SSA Glass - review by humblepie

SSA Glass's Midnight Twist is a glass dildo meant for vaginal insertion. Because the round end is at a bit of an angle, it could be used anally with care if you insert the more realistic end. Glass is an excellent material for temperature play and sharing between partners (as long as it's sanitized properly). This dildo is appropriate for people of all genders and experience levels, as long as they are comfortable with using glass, which is less forgiving than other materials, such as silicone. If you use wish to thrust this toy while using it vaginally, take care to be gentle so as to avoid bruising your cervix.

The Midnight Twist is not meant for use with a harness, and I would not recommend it for simulating oral sex because the sensation of teeth against glass/glass paint is pretty unpleasant. Tempered glass is very sturdy, and you generally don't have to worry about it breaking, but if you wish to travel with it a bit of extra padding in its included toy bag wouldn't hurt.

Pyrex glass is an excellent toy material, and it rater a perfect ten on the EdenFantasys Toy Material Safety Scale. It is extremely easy to clean (and because it is nonporous, it can be completely sanitized): stick it in your dishwasher, boil it, use a toy wipe or toy cleaning fluid, or clean it by hand with soap and water or 10% bleach solution. Pyrex is extremely durable and does not break easily, but if you do manage to break it you won't have to worry about it shattering - it will simply break into a few large chunks that can be easily disposed of.

Glass is completely rigid and unforgiving; it will not conform to the shape of your body at all, and feels slightly girthier than it really is, so take that into consideration when ordering. If you wish to thrust with this toy, be gentle at first and learn your limits so you can avoid causing internal bruising. When you first receive your Midnight Twist, inspect it for any scratches or imperfections. They can cause serious damage, so if any are present submit a ticket to EF customer support and request a replacement. Glass is compatible with all lubricants and toy materials, so feel free to use it with (and store it alongside) whatever tickles your fancy.



There is slight texture on this toy, but I found it to be barely noticeable. It consists of a line of slightly raised red nubs along one side of the toy's shaft. They do not seem to be placed to stimulate any certain part of female or male anatomy, and they're most noticeable while the toy is being inserted. I think that this amount of texture would be fine for beginners, but as an introduction to texture it doesn't provide a great example of what textured toys have to offer.

The Midnight Twist has a straight shaft, with both ends slightly offset from the toy's main body. Because of the more realistic of the two ends it is not exactly discreet, but if displayed creatively you could probably pass it off as a piece of art (and since it's handcrafted, it sort of is!).



As you can see, this dildo is about average in size at just under 8" long and about 1.5" in diameter (obviously a bit wider at both ends). I found that this was a good size for me, and if angled correctly the pointier head provided nice G-spot stimulation, and the rounder end was very filling. If you're using this toy for temperature play, the pointy end's top provides great pinpoint stimulation for erogenous zones such as the nipples, clitoris, and perineum.

The texture did pretty much nothing for me, but I like the shapes of both ends, and as not many glass toys are designed with anal use in mind, this one gets a lot of use from my partner and me. It's a little longer than I'm used to, but that makes thrusting very easy, and it compensates slightly for the slim shaft. The glass holds temperature very well, as expected, and the pointy tip is great for teasing. If you insert the round end it provides a nice popping sensation upon removal, which is another plus for me. It can feel a little awkward at first because of how the tips are offset from the body, but I got used to it fairly quickly and don't find it uncomfortable.

Glass is very easy to take care of. As I noted in the "materials" section of this review, you can boil it, place it in a dishwasher, use a toy cleaning solution, or wash it by hand with soap and water or a 10% bleach solution. Glass is compatible with all lubricants, so you don't have to worry about it reacting like you would with a silicone toy.



The Midnight Twist currently comes with a red, unpadded, faux-velvet toy bag, but the toy bag provided can change over time, so don't be surprised if you get a different one! I store mine in its bag in my Lockable Sex Toy Case.

I was pretty disappointed when I opened my package to find that the nubs on this toy are red, not blue like in the product photo on the toy's page. This clearly has no effect on its performance, but I don't really like the contrast between the colors; it somehow seems less midnight-y.

I do really love the swirl design, though! Although I don't particularly like simulating oral sex with glass toys (I'm terrible at the whole 'no teeth' thing, though, so it's good practice), this toy is really fun to use that way because the swirls let me gauge how much of the toy I'm 'taking' at a time. I can slowly insert more and more of it, and I feel a real sense of accomplishment when I managed to get, say, three swirls deeper than usual. I don't have a great view of it when I'm using it vaginally and anally, but I'd imagine the same is true for when you use it with those orifices.
