The Classiest Double-Sided Dildo in Existence

Published: March 7, 2009
somewhat useful review
The Ella is a great choice for women who want quality and discretion. A silicone design that is beautiful and pleasurable is topped off with classy packaging. There are no bells, whistles, or vibrating parts, but it does all it is intended to do, and very well!
Pros:
Silicone. Sophisticated packaging. Sleek design
Cons:
This toy is technically a "double-sided dildo," which just sounds nasty.

I received this sleek, sexy toy for Valentine's Day. Though I'm usually the kind of girl who would like something sweet and romantic (like a box of my favorite chocolates or a book of love poems), the styling of the Ella and its packaging were stylish and classy. The toy comes in a long, thin box that could easily be mistaken to hold a beautiful piece of jewelry. Inside, the Ella fits nicely into a plastic tray molded to fit her shape. The toy also comes with a small satin bag for storage. This packaging choice solves a common problem for sex toys—discreet storage. Furthermore, the toy is tastefully designed to make you feel more like a discriminating customer and less like a porn star.

The all-silicone design of this toy creates a super-smooth finish that is easy to clean (it can be both boiled and bleached) and delightful to use. There is, however, a small imprint of the brand name on the side that requires a little more scrubbing. But as long as you are being careful to clean the toy thoroughly, this shouldn't be a problem.

Since the Ella is my first “dildo,” I was not sure how I would feel about a non-vibrating toy. Somehow, the title of the dildo has connotations of a toy that is far less beautiful and tasteful than the Ella. Nevertheless, the toy has two usable, non-vibrating ends. While both ends are very enjoyable, the picture makes it seem as if the short, wide end is much smaller than the longer end. In reality, the two ends are of comparable size, but function much differently. The long, gently-tapering end is great for thrusting, but the shorter end is perfect for G-spot stimulation. Though the Lelo's Ella may seem somewhat small, I found the size to be perfectly adequate—what it may lack in size is made up for in expert engineering.

Why does "double-sided dildo" sound nasty?

Perhaps "nasty" was a bit harsh, but for a woman with a very vanilla sex life, "double-sided dildo" sounds more like a prop for an adult video than something I'd be comfortable owning. The Ella, however, is all class.

A lot of classy toys come as double sided dildos, such as the Alumina line by Tantus- double sided means they're multipurpose dildos not toys specifically made for lesbian porn hijinks.

Which side is your favorite?

I prefer the g-spot side most of the time, but when the situation calls for it, both ends are delightful.

I've had both the Ella and the Gigi sitting in my shopping cart for days now. I was wondering.. should I get them both, or should I maybe just get one to try, then maybe later on get the other if I want?

They both seem so worth it, it's hard to just pick one!

I just bought the Ella and have not tried it yet, but everyone seems to love it. I have had the GiGi for a couple of months and rarely use it, mainly because the control thing is located in the worst possible spot, and I invariably hit it and make the settings change! Argh! I also had no luck with it for g-spot stimulation, and the only times I get it out it is for clit work.

Even though I wasn't crazy about GiGi, it seems to do the job for a lot of people, so it might work for you. In fact, I bought it based on all the wonderful reviews. I've come to the conclusion that there is no one toy that will do the trick for everyone. Everyone is VERY different in their tastes and what they need.

I agree that no toy is good for everyone. I can not get a rabbit vibe that actually works for me by stimulating my clit and vag at the same time. Perhaps its operator error.
Anyway, I love the Gigi. I solved the control issue for me anyway by wiping the lube off the control and my fingers...success. The effectiveness of the Gigi is the vibe plus the design. I don't have the Ella, which is not a vibe but I see it as similar to many of the g spot dils available.
