The Trouble With Tentacle

The Tentacle is a beautiful toy. Its superb craftsmanship and shimmery iridescence make it very aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, its girth, shape and texture did not work with my anatomy. Due to its suckers, it's also a pain to clean thoroughly. Although I love looking at it, and it's fun to show off, I don't gain much pleasure from using it on myself.

Use

The Tentacle is a silicone dildo. It's meant to be used for vaginal or anal penetration. I mention anal because, although it doesn't have a flared base, the base is wide enough that I'm comfortable saying that I doubt it would get sucked in unless you were very, VERY dedicated to getting it up there. Because it is made of silicone, you must use water-based lubricants with it... and due to its heavy texture, you will probably need lube.

Material / Texture

The Tentacle is made out of silicone, which has a rating of 10 on the Edenfantasys Safety Scale. That's about as safe as it gets - it's nonporous, and it can even be bleached with a 10% bleach solution or boiled to sterilize it, if necessary.

The material has a lovely iridescence that's difficult for me to capture with my very basic camera setup.

Tentacle Back

Tentacle Bendiness

Tentacle Squishiness

It has a lot of texture, and I mean a LOT. This is probably the most heavily-textured dildo that I own, and it's difficult to properly do the texture justice in photographs. If you look at the photo I took, you will see that the tip of my pinky finger fits almost entirely in one of the suckers. The larger suckers are about 1" across and about 1/6" in depth. That is the level of texture that the Tentacle boasts. Almost all of the suckers are located on the front of the Tentacle, whereas the back is smooth silicone with a bit of drag.

Tentacle Suckers

The base does not have a suction cup. There is a section in the base that is embossed with Whipspider's logo.

The material has a lot of give and flexibility, but it's not floppy. The suckers themselves also feel quite firm when they are inside of you. That, combined with the texture, means that if you love texture you will love the Tentacle. If you're like me, though, the texture may be a bit too much. The silicone that it's made out of also has a sort of matte texture and quite a bit of drag.

Tentacle had a slight rubbery smell right out of the package, and a light chalky dusting. After cleaning, it had no smell and no flavor, and was not tacky. It tends to collect lint, though.

Design / Shape / Size

The Tentacle has a curve that's probably good for very deep g-spots that don't need a lot of pressure, since the Tentacle is fairly squishy and its does most of the work.

DIAMETER: Its base is 3.5" across from front to back and 2.25" from one side to the other. I would say that its very tip, which is bluntly rounded, is about .75" across.

Tentacle Diameter

CIRCUMFERENCE: Its blunt tip quickly increases to about 3.25" within the span of an inch. At its midpoint (approximately 4.5" down its length), it is 5.75" around. At its base, it measures 9" around.

LENGTH: Measured along its curve, it is approximately 7" long. Measured top-to-bottom without taking the curve into account, it is closer to 6.25".

Tentacle Length

It's not very discreet, but a lot of people would probably have no idea that this was a sex toy. It looks more like a sculpture. Plop it in a fancy bowl with some sea shells and a lot of people would probably be none the wiser. I wouldn't say that it travels well - it's rather hefty, and requires more care when cleaning than most silicone dildos due to its suckers.

I definitely wouldn't recommend this toy for beginners. It's very girthy and has a great deal of texture.

Performance

The Tentacle just didn't hit my g-spot. The combination of girth and squishiness meant that I couldn't get it in far enough to do much good, and even then I suspect that the tip simply isn't firm enough that it would have done much good. I guess that part of the issue is that I am a petite person. Not even that I'm particularly "tight" - just that my body and bone structure are small and, as a result, I'm not able to get the most out of the Tentacle.

In addition, the texture is just too much for me. I thought the suckers would be enjoyable since the material is fairly squishy, but they're just too rough. If the Tentacle had been squishier, I could have enjoyed the suckers... if it had been firmer and the suckers less pronounced, I could have enjoyed its pressure. As it is, it gets too wide too fast for me to even feel "full" because I can't get it in far enough. Even after a short session, I stopped using it because the suckers were uncomfortable and not enjoyable at all. The only way I get much enjoyment from this toy is by gently rubbing the suckers up and down against my clitoris. It's just an unfortunate issue of design and anatomy conspiring against me. I didn't even attempt to use my Tentacle anally... it would probably make my butt raw.

Partners, at least, find it interesting. Some in a good way, and some in a bad way - I guess it just depends on how freaked out or aroused they are by the toy's unusual appearance.

Care and Maintenance

Since it's made of silicone, you can boil the Tentacle or wash it with a 10% bleach solution. You can also spray it with toy cleaner or clean it with an antibacterial soap. I spray mine down with toy cleaner and then wash it with soap and water. Because of its size and shape, it's not really possible to fit a condom over it.

The Tentacle is more of a pain to clean than my other silicone dildos, since I take care to clean out each sucker individually. It's easy to miss one while washing it, and then once it dries, that's... icky. I would say that, out of all of my dildos, it's the one that I hate cleaning the most.

Because it is made of silicone, don't use silicone lubricants with this toy. It sounds counter-intuitive, but they will interact and damage the material. Only use water-based lubes with the Tentacle.

Packaging

The Tentacle came in a simple plastic bag which also contained a small paper insert for Whipspider. The packaging was very minimal. For a while, I simply stored my Tentacle in a plastic bag. It didn't come with any sort of real storage bag.

Personal comments

I gave the Tentacle an honest rating based on my experience, but what I dislike about it may be exactly what causes someone else to love it. I also feel like it may be an acquired taste, to some degree, and that later on I may have a better appreciation for it. For right now, though, I don't use it very often. I plan on ordering Tentacle Jr. soon. If my Tentacle were a little slimmer and a bit less textured, I would probably really enjoy it, and it looks like that's what the smaller and slimmer Tentacle Jr. delivers.

Experience

I wanted to love the Tentacle. From the moment I saw it on the product search, I was enchanted. Like everything that Whipspider crafts, it is beautifully made. I'm drawn to exotic-looking dildos, and this one is particularly exotic-looking. I love its unique design and beautiful craftsmanship. Every time I went to buy it, however, it was out of stock! When it finally came back in stock, I grabbed it immediately. Otherwise, I knew I was in for another long wait while Edenfantasys restocked.

When I received it, it arrived in a simple plastic bag. It had a chalky residue on it that probably came from the mold that was used to create it. The residue washed off easily.

When I inserted it, it was uncomfortable - I assumed I wasn't using enough lube, since it IS very textured, and added more. No matter how much lube I used, though, it didn't glide any better. This dildo has a lot of drag and texture, and that just doesn't work with some peoples' bodies or preferences. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't hit my g-spot with it. I also couldn't make the most out of its insertable length because it simply got too wide too fast, and I ran into physical limitations. Due to the lack of suction cup or flared base and the extreme curve, it's difficult to ride even when I put it in my Liberator Bonbon. The base was so wide that it barely fit, anyway.

I tried a few times, but eventually gave up. My main consolation is that at least it's nice to look at.
