The Grrl Toyz Love Sux is the first clit pump I've used. Its frothy pink butterfly-reminiscent design, definitely looked less challenging than the other pumps I'd seen and read about. Previous to receiving this toy to review, I was most familiar with the sort of clit pumps popular in the trans, queer, and S/M communities. High-tech pumps that look more like a medical accessory/smaller penis pump, featuring treated glass and medical-grade rubber or silicone and costing up to $200.

Although I've never used these high-tech devices myself, I can imagine that they establish an even tighter vacuum seal and require more expertise to use safely and successfully. Certainly the Grrl Toys Luv Sux can be used to figure out, whether you want to explore clit pumps further. It can also simply be used successfully by anyone looking to try a different type of clitoral stimulation ,that approximates the feel of receiving cunnilingus.

A clit pump works by creating a vacuum around your skin, and forcing the blood to rush to the surface, engorging the surrounding tissue. The pink heart-shaped portion of the pump fits over your vulva, with the pointy part lined up with the area surrounding your skin. Squeezing the trigger on the pink plastic handle sucks the air out of the cup through the clear, flexible tubing that connects them. A black button on the quick-release valve lets you immediately break the vacuum seal. The plain, clear plastic packaging describes the toy's basic features.

It's pthalates-free, has an "easy, ergonomic pump with quick-release valve". It also offers a 90-day warranty that will replace a malfunctioning toy within 30 days for a $9 fee, unless you live in certain states. Alas the insert did not include detailed directions, and there are a few things you should know before using this toy, see the ‘Experience’ section below for my own set of operating instructions.

The Love Sux features an inserted battery-operated mini vibe that would be able to make some, but not all, people come if the suctioning is not enough. It's not very loud and relatively discrete-sounding. I enjoyed the way that the vibe and soft jelly cup diffused sensations throughout my clit area.

It would be awesome if this toy could be used during penetration, but there wasn't enough room left once it was sealed onto the vulva in my experience. The cup is made of soft jelly-like material that the manufacturers claim is pthalates-free. The hand pump is made of hard plastic. My final gripe is that the plastic hand pump seems none too sturdy. I wouldn't count on this toy lasting through the years with regular usage.

Of course, on the plus side, the pump need not be restricted to the clit. You can use it to stimulate, sensitize, and leave marks all over your lover's body; paying special attention to the nipples, which are especially sensitive to suction. After being suctioned your skin will be red, inflamed, and especially sensitive; the ticklers on the cup make little impressions on the skin also.

Read the instructions in the ‘Experience’ section below for more details, and start by not leaving it suctioned on for more than 5-10 minutes. Redness should fade in a few minutes or hours, depending on your skin type; if you use it long and hard enough, bruises can form. If you have really sensitive and/or allergic skin, use extra caution and leave it on less time.

Some people report a semi-permanent increase in sensitivity in the clit or nipples from using a clit pump, while others don't. Although a few people claim differently, most experts agree that using a clit pump will not permanently enlarge your clit. Clit pumps can, however, temporarily create the illusion of an enlarged clit if you use it long and hard enough to make the engorgement last.

I did not notice a significant increase in my clit size when I used it, but I did not leave the suction on for any extended period of time. I preferred the sensations of creating and releasing the pressure quickly.

MY OWN INSTRUCTIONS:
Before operating the Love Sux, or any pump on your sensitive clit or nipples, you should try it on your thigh or forearm. Place the cup against a patch of skin that is hair-free (to enable the seal) and squeeze the pump. Try pulling gently on the attached pump to heighten the sensation. Don't pluck it off completely, especially when it's on your genitals, until you become more experienced with your body's individual reactions and have developed more advanced skills using the toy.

Also try out pressing the black release button a few times. Notice the red, inflamed skin it leave behind and keep that in mind when you use it on your own, or your lover's genitals. If left attached to the skin for a long enough time, bruises will accompany the reddened skin left behind - which can be a plus or a minus, depending on your persuasion. Go slow when you try it out on your clit, and be sure to remember to use the release button frequently at first. If you feel comfortable leaving the suction on, start with 3 minutes and proceed from there, but don't ever exceed 15 minutes at a time.

A FEW WORDS OF CAUTION:
You should use precaution with this or any clit pump toy, and be sure to stop immediately if there's any pain or discomfort. No vacuumed seal on any body part should be left unobserved for very long. The Luv Sux does not form as intense a seal as a medical-grade clit pump, but you should still observe care. Don't leave the vacuum attached to the skin for more than 10-15 minutes without releasing the pressure. If you feel concerned or hesitant at any point in the game, stop immediately.

A USEFUL TIP:
I found that, while using it on my clit minus vibration, I enjoyed pressing the pump trigger once or twice and then the release button; alternating and at a rather quick pace. It approximated the sensations of receiving gentle oral sex in a mildly stimulating way.
